We were sad that Farm went away but happy about how they morphed into The Mountain Says No.
17.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
18.) Paint It Black – Silver Bridget
19.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE

So, you don’t need to be a musician and you don’t need to be a recording engineer like Ryan Cohen. You do need to find what works for you and let your passion drive you to accomplish what you want. In that way, we should all be like Ryan.
24.) Be Like Ryan – The Mountain Says No
25.) Slipstream – Black Ox
26.) Kaleidoscope – Arc Iris

Songs before: Delirious – The Church Band
Sparks – The Color Exchange
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I just got back from seeing music at the last installment of Summervale, the weekly festival that happens every Thursday in Burlington’s Intervale. The darkness began settling in during the middle of the set and the change of seasons is upon us. The music was great, and I’ll talk about that in a bit, but one person has done a lot to make the music happen, Joe Adler, and it was his birthday. To help celebrate, I’m going to go back to an album I received last week and play a fun song.
1.) Happy Birthday Freak Of Science – Mailbox
2.) Super Sexy Science Party – Wave of the Future
3.) Papa’s Child – Currently Nameless
It was fun reading Dan Bolles mention of nameless and finding the balance of clever but not too clever for their name. They are playing a reunion show at Higher Ground Saturday night. Cool party song from Wave and great song from Adam Rabin. At Summervale tonight is was Michael Chorney, Francesca Blanchard, and Joe Adler. Each told a story then played a song then passed it to the next player. Michael was a bit more quiet but his guitar playing was so elegant. Francesca played guitar beautifully and had some great articulation to her vocals all night long. Joe was the storytelling ringmaster and played a bunch of fun songs. Here is a hint of what it sounded like.
4.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler
5.) Wanderer – Francesca Blanchard
6.) Guitar – Michael Chorney
Such great music tonight. Yea, Joe has played a lot of music in this town and booked a lot of music in this town and has gotten a lot of people excited about music in this town and it’s his birthday, so let’s play some of his music.
7.) Coffee & Eggs – Joe Adler
8.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler
9.) Burning Down The House – Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger
That was Joe and the band live at Nectar’s. They are such a fun band. The song in the middle was from his star-studded solo album, and the first was from the 11-11-11 EP. OK, in non Joe news, this band is coming to The Monkey House on the 16th. They are a great band and I’ve loved them more and more every time I’ve seen them. You should really check them out Joe!!
10.) Until The Day I Die->I-78 – Slingshot Dakota
11.) Annex & Index – Doom Service
12.) Infamous U-Turn – Zola Turn
Classic song from the ’90’s. That’s a new Doom song from the F*@! Cancer compilation to raise money for Leukemia research. Their singer guitar player Jeff Foran has been fighting it so I wanted to let people know about it, and bought a copy of the album today. Every little bit helps. Killer songs from Slingshot. OK, it’s time for the next song on JV, the killer album from The Mountain Says No. This may be one of the best songs from Burlington ever.
13.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No
14.) Bomb – Envy
15.) All My Life – Wide Wail
Two great songs from the ’90’ and one from today. We’re so lucky in Burlington. Let’s keep rocking.
16.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica

22.) Not True – Peg Tassey MUSIC
23.) Finder – The Madelines
24.) Mirror Mirror – Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger
That was Joe and the band live at Nectar’s. Happy Birthday Joe! Finder was another classic ’90’s song. OK, time to take off I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we. Here’s Black Rabbit to take us out.
25.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
Song after: Credo – Fish
I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM.org. The opening song set the tone for the bands and music that followed.
Song before: Satellite – Guster
From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. I had great plans to see lots of music this week, but twisted my ankle on Friday and sat (with leg up and icepack on) out too much of it. It’s a bit better now so I should be all set soon. Today has been cloudy and cool and humid and I’ve been in a spacey sort of mood. Let’s take a trip through the last 30 years in town and start with Move Through Time by Persian Claws on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
1.) Move Through Time – Persian Claws
2.) Pauses – Black Rabbit
3.) Your Downtown Aperture – Video Pigeon
4.) All My Life – Wide Wail
Killer song from a classic band from Burlington’s glorious ’90’s. Some people say Burlington bands come in waves and there are times when there is not much around. Even in those troughs bands like Video Pigeon were around rocking beautifully. Killer new song from Rabbit. Great song from the Claws!! OK, let’s stay in the ’90’s for a bit.
5.) The Summer Of Andy – The Cancer Conspiracy
6.) Last Man Standing – Band X
7.) Jules Rosen and Joe Steel – Brave The Vertigo
8.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
Casey Merlin Rae used to play in bands in town, then wrote the music column for Seven Days and is now working in DC to help find ways for musicians to get paid for their music. Yea!! I really wanted to check out Vertigo at Radio Bean last night, but the ankle said no. Killer song from Band X who sort of evolved into Elephants of Scotland. OK, let’s go on to the next song on JV, the album I’m playing all the way through week after week, song after song.
9.) Who could Say – The Mountain Says No
10.) Mad Captain – Brother Zag
11.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
12.) Abilene – The Lonestar Chain
I’ve been watching the flooding in Texas and saw a mention on the Weather Chanel of Abilene and thought of Burette Douglas and this song. Killer song from Hana. Zag is one of the known unknown cool artists in town. Mountain will be at Radio Bean on Saturday and I really want to make it to the show. I was thinking of checking out this next band when they played Summervale today, but walking down the hill away from the radio station was not going to happen today, short of an act from God.
13.) Dear God – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
14.) Dancing In Dreamtime – Jerichovox
15.) Holiday – Guppyboy
16.) Old Man – Will
Killer song from the Rutland band from the early 2000’s. When they broke up they became Thompson Gunner and Split Tongue Crow. Killer song from the classic ’90’s band. Jericho are playing around a bit and were really cool when I saw them a couple of months back. OK, let’s go back to the early ’80’s, or maybe ’70’s.
17.) At The Diner – Zoot Wilson
18.) 2012 – Lobot
19.) Waterlanding – Swale
20.) Ladders – Heavy Plains
Nice song from the super new band who will be at Nectar’s tomorrow. Swale and one other band will be there too. A few weeks back Chris Farnsworth gave me a collection of songs that Lobot had left over. That one was pretty cool. Hmmm, Zoot. This next band is the other one playing Nectar’s tomorrow.
21.) Ruffians – ROUGH FRANCIS
22.) Gas And Oil – Gas And Oil
23.) Plastic Revolution – Doll Fight
24.) Stop – REDadmirial
Admiral were at The Old North Ender last night. I had hopes of checking out some of them then heading to the Bean for Vertigo, but it was the couch and ice for me. I’ve got to go see them! Killer song from the 2000’s punk band. Gas was Beano Parker, from the Wards, side project and really rocked! OK, in classic Burlington style, this next band will be at the Bean at the same time as the Nectar’s show tomorrow. Rats!! I love this band.
25.) It’s Happening – Anachronist
26.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
Song after: What Color Is God? – Fish
I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM.org. It had a swing at the beginning then rocked through the end.
Song before: Distant Early Warning – Rush
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Life in Burlington has seen a ton of rain and lots of sunny beautiful days, or parts of days. This is a song from the early 2000’s from a band from Rutland. This song has been playing in my head a lot lately, so now I’m going to play it for you. This is If I Go by Will on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.
1.) If I Go – Will
2.) Waiting For You – Swale
3.) Think I’ll Go – Great Western
4.) Precious Time – The Cush
The Cush built their first album in Texas then moved to Vermont for a few years. I saw as many shows as I could and that is such a great song. Killer song from Western. Hopefully, they have new stuff coming soon. That’s such a fun Swale song and sounded as good coming out of the Will song as I hoped. This next singer is playing this weekend in Hinesburgh at the Northern Sun Music Festival with a bass player and drummer. I bet it will rock.
5.) Scattered Birds – Aaron Flinn
6.) Einstein-Rosen Bridge – Jeremy Gilchrist
7.) The Whole – Milton Busker
8.) I Forgot – Maryse Smith
Maryse Smith is playing at Signal Kitchen tomorrow. What a great song. I have not caught up with Milton in a while, but hope to soon. Cool lyrics that make you think from Jeremy. Hopefully, I will get to see Aaron and his band really rock sometime soon. Like the first song in the set tonight, this song has been going through my head a lot lately.
9.) The Territory – Hana Zara
10.) Let It Shine – Rachel Brown
11.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
12.) In The Rain – Plan B
It’s been raining like crazy lately and was supposed to rain today. No sign of it yet, it’s really been a beautiful day. I’ve always loved that Dave song. Rachel used to unleash her killer voice in this town a lot. OK, it’s time for the next song on JV, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. It will be released July 27 when they play The Monkey House.
13.) Iron And Metal – The Mountain Says No
14.) Bomb – Envy
15.) Original Original – Black Rabbit
16.) Weapons Factory – The Wards
Classic song from the band that lead the punk wave in Burlington back in the ’80’s. Killer new Rabbit song! Killer classic from Envy. Sean Toohey and Ann Mindell who played in that band are in a new band called The Nancy Druids. Definitely check them out when they play Radio Bean a couple of Monday’s from now. Hmmm, Mountain. OK, let’s keep on playing some recent Burlington punk music.
17.) Planning My Funeral – Poxy
18.) Black Oil – Doom Service
19.) Asphyxia – Better Things
20.) Blue Lights – As We Were
21.) MSP2 – ROUGH FRANCIS
If you want a heavy rock band, you could not do better than Rough Francis. They are at Higher Ground tonight opening for Bad Religion. As play it fast and hard and fun and I’ve loved the couple of times I’ve seen them. Better keep writing music and playing shows and I cant’ wait to see where they go next. Doom always rock hard. I miss Poxy. This next artist used to play all the time in Burlington. She’s coming back for a visit. Will she play a show? I hope so.
22.) Vicarious – Alice Austin
22.) Sequoia II – Binger
23.) These Are Some Things – When Particles Collide
24.) Stop – REDadmirial
I’ve got to get out and see admiral. They are playing the Northern Sun Music Festival too, but I have to work on Saturday and Sunday I’m meeting Mom and Dad and Ken for a Father’s Day lunch then heading to Montreal to see Rush with Ken. Killer song from Particles who are on the road now. Go check them out! Cool song form Binger. It’s almost the Solstice and the longest day of the year. It makes me feel like this song.
25.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker
26.) Don’t Cough Me Out – Slowdim
27.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica
28.) Relief – Death World Wide
Killer song from the bands new album N.E.W. Love that Vetica song. Killer song from Slowdim. I’d love someone to bring that Boston band to town. Sarah’s on the road. Check her out if she comes to your town! I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the release of Misplaced Childhood, so the songs after were: Childhood’s End->White Feather (live) – Fish
After wrapping up the show, the rain came. It was a very wet walk home with shifting winds. The umbrella helped, but it was a very wet walk.
I just got back from tonight’s local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I pulled our a few gems from the past and played a couple of songs that are barely a week old.
Songs before:Hopin’ That I’m Wrong – Will
Let Us Go – The Church Band
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a cold night in Burlington but a few intrepid souls are out and about and not letting it get them down. Here is a song I got a couple of days ago, but have been enjoying live for a few months now. This is Burn It Down Bernadette by Phil Yates & The Affiliates on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
1.) Burn It Down Bernadette – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
2.) Blue Light Blue – Heavy Plains
3.) Blue Light Shines – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers
I love that song and had to play it out of the Plains song. That’s another new song from Luke Awtry‘s new band. Great song by Phil Yates. I’m so happy to have new songs of theirs. Let’s play the next song on Many Things & Many Scenes. This is one of my favorites.
4.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler
5.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western
6.) This Land Is Your Land – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont musicians
Nice reggae feel to the Woody Guthrie classic. I think about the idea of pluralism we strive for in the United States and many other countries. It’s terrible when someone uses violence to try and silence an artistic voice. The response to the killings in Paris have been some incredible works of art that will touch millions of souls. The picture of the pencil with the words “This Machine Kills Fascists”, which is what Woody had written on his guitar, really hit me. The great part about art is it does not kill people, just bad ideas. Senator Sanders wages peace, so that is why I played that song. I love that song from Western!!! Last Saturday I made it out to The Monkey House and saw great sets from Black Rabbit and Dino Bravo VT. The Mountain Says No did a stunning job opening the show, but they don’t have anything recorded yet so I can’t play any of their songs. Instead, I’ll play a song from the soundtrack of Ben Maddoxs underwater adventures.
7.) Straight Outta Kill Kare – I See Fish People
8.) Always Monica/Down At The Duck (live) – Chin Ho!
9.) No Way – Phantom Suns
I’ve really got to get to know Suns better. Great song. Classic couple of songs from the mighty Chin Ho! This next song has been running through my head a lot, so I’ll play it again.
10.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things
11.) I-90 East – ROUGH FRANCIS
12.) Freakin Out – Death World Wide
I’m so psyched about the show at the Flynn with Death, Francis and others. It’s going to rock! Sometimes the news gets too heavy. I mean you need to stay informed, but after a certain amount of understanding the world, sometimes you need a distraction.
13.) Distraction – When Particles Collide
14.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids
15.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine
16.) Bionic – The Red Telephone
Love the lyric in the RT song. I was feeling fired up the other day and had it running through my head. They used to rock Burlington with that one. Great song from Julia Austin and Alice Austin from the days after Zola Turn. Can’t waif for the new Kids album. Great song from Particles. This band seem to play for a while, go quiet for a while then play again. They’re around and this is a cool song.
17.) Parking Lot – Villanelles
18.) All Around – Hover
19.) Let The World Turn – Death.
I hope they play that one when they play the Flynn! Great song from Brad Searles old band. I love this next song, and love the live version just a little bit more.
20.) TFAY (live) – Elephants of Scotland
21.) Ornan’s Song – The Dirty Blondes
22.) 1.21 Jigawats – Wave of the Future
Love that song. Their guitar player plays drums for Mountain Says No and it was cool that most of Wave came to the show to support him. Ornan McLean plays drums for the Blondes and Elephants. OS was dedicated to my brother Ken who loves that song. Earlier today I asked for requests and got four. I’ll have to hold the Red Admiral until I’ve listened more but these next three are dedicated to Marc Scarano, David Jarvis Mark Crowther, and Kitty Kindbud.
23.) Flight Of The Alligator – Cave Bees
24.) Paper Train – Dave Jarvis
25.) You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds
I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
Song after: Big Wedge (live) – Fish
