Song before: Countdown – Rush

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with a cool artist who has been playing in a cool band who just released a solo album.

1.) Better Off Alone – Meg Rice
2.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker
3.) Your Funeral – Zeus Springsteen
4.) 1965 – The New Siberians

That’s the next song on the Siberians great eponymous first album. Zeus played a killer show Monday at Higher Ground. Great song from Milton and it’s nice to see Meg step out. OK, this next band are from Rhode Island and they played Burlington once in the ’90’s and they have still stuck with me.

5.) We’re The Loops – The Mockingbirds
6.) Accidental Graveyard – The Dead Shakers
7.) Safe To Say – SWALE
8.) Mr Reed – Seth Yacovone Band

Seth and the band will be at the Old Post in South Burlington on Saturday. Swale will be at ArtsRiot on Saturday. The Shakers will be at Junktiques Collective on Saturday. If you like all three songs, you will have a tough choice to make. This next band will be at Radio Bean on Sunday, yea.

9.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
10.) Right Bright Lord – The Mountain Says No
11.) Waste Of Time – Preece
12.) If You Die – The Wards
13.) Jurassic Bark – Doom Service

That is on the Live From Robot Dog Studio Volume 2 that just came out. I really want to thank Ray Padgett from County Tracks for writing such a nice story about my struggle with my mother’s death last year, and the way that music helped me get through it. That was very nice. The Wards rocked us in the ’80’s and will continue rocking us later this evening. Great songs from Preece and Mountain. Both can be obtained for free on the Live From Robot Dog Studio Volume 2 album. I’m so psyched to see the Druids on Sunday. OK, It’s time to talk about a naughty word that apparently is fine to say in public by a fine moral leader like the President Of The United States. Wow, our decency standards as a nation are just gone now, as proven by the moral tolerance of the President’s speech by his “moral” base.

14.) Bullshit – Blue Button
15.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
16.) Fear The Government – The Wards
17.) Weapon Factory take 4 – The Wards
18.) Bernie Is A Punk – BERN UNIT
19.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday

That song is such a lovely look at life when Bernie was Mayor of Burlington. He would make a decent President. Nice reworking of the Ramones song by the band from California. I though a double shot of Wards would be nice. I don’t think we need to fear the government but we do need to elect decent caring people, which we often do not do for odd reasons. Nice rockers from Doubtfire and Button. OK, here’s a brand new punk song.

20.) A Song About Riding Bikes Adrienne Cooper Smith
21.) Awake To Steak – Black Hairy Tongue
22.) Six O’ Clock – The Wards
23.) Decide – Dave Jarvis Band
24.) Prime – Black Rabbit

Great rocker from Rabbit. That’s not even on one of their albums yet. Classic ’90’s rocker from Dave. Nice punk from the ’80’s with the Wards. BHT straddled that line between the ’80’s and ’90’s. Adrienne is out rocking us today. This next band is doing the same.

25.) This Town – Suburban Samurai
26.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink or Swim
27.) United States – The Wards
28.) We Need Bigger Knives – As We Were
29.) Bury Me Easy – Real Talk

Cool song from their new album. Were played around in the early 2010’s. American Imperialism was in full force in the ’80’s as the Wards so nicely point out. Sink and Suburban are out and about rocking us hard. This next band is doing the same.

30.) Warmonger – Smokestack Lightning
31.) Gettin’ High – Heavy Plains
32.) Bit O Honey – Happy Spangler
33.) Magic In This Mystery – Robin Gottfried Band

Robin and his band will be at On Tap Bar & Grill on Saturday. Fun song from Spangler. Great rockers from Heavy and Smokestack. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

9.) Country Cumbia – Mal Maïz
10.) Clandestino – Mal Maïz
11.) Fantasma – Mal Maïz
12.) Producto de la Mente – Mal Maïz

I’m so glad that Maiz Vargas Sandoval has brought his music to Vermont so we can learn to dance in other languages. He and the band will do a Robot Dog session later this month and that will be a lot of fun. OK, this next album feature is full of Party Music. Let’s get reaffiliated with an old friend.

13.) If Only I Was Lonely – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
14.) One Mans Trash – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
15.) Fixin’ To Die – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
16.) Send Him The Bill – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

You can pre-order the new album on Bandcamp and get two songs now. Thanks for sending the whole album Phil!! This next band are playing tonight at The Monkey House.

17.) Above The Frequency – Invisible Homes
18.) Rental – Zeus Springsteen
19.) All My Life – Wide Wail
20.) Alienation – Black Rabbit

Great rocker from Rabbit. I thought I should toss a classic into this mix of new music. Thanks for still being great Wail. Great rocker from Zeus. I can’t wait for the new Homes album. This next band will be at the Lamp Shop on Saturday in a semi-acoustic kind of way.

21.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
22.) Black, Blue & White – The New Siberians
23.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
24.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vt Musicians.

That was recorded many years ago and Bernie is still out fighting the good fight. On Tuesday we hold elections and his stepdaughter Carina Driscoll is running for mayor. Wednesday is really Emma Sky and she wrote that about Burlington and how progressive values have enhanced the lives of people in our town. Great songs form Siberians and Druids. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show will stream at WBKM and can be heard over the air at 107.1FM. It will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time and will go as follows:

Song before (Then Came The) Last Of May – Blue Oyster Cult

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with a woman who has come to town for years to share her music with us. Here is the brand new song she just released.

1.) Walkabout – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association
2.) Mama – Ivamae
3.) Powder – The New Siberians
4.) Lovely Day – gneiss

That song makes me so happy. I hope it does the same for you. Great song from the Siberians debut album from a few years ago. Ivamae are so wonderfully talented. Great new song from Sarah. OK, here is the next song from Lights Camera Action and is the last song on the Lights EP.

5.) Sleepwalker – 1881
6.) Just Another Day – The Nancy Druids
7.) Alan’s Garden – Ruckzuck
8.) Last Day Of May – The Red Telephone

Today is the first of June so I thought that would be appropriate to play. After seeing Ruckzuck so much last week, I’m still pretty enthralled with them and wanted to play Garden again. Great rocker from Nancy and wonderful song about insomnia from 1881. That’s a lot of sheep to count. OK, I almost saw this band last Tuesday at Light Club Lamp Shop but I worked just late enough to miss them

9.) Sri Lanka – Ellen Degenerates
10.) I Will – Camp Howard
11.) The Field – The Dead Shakers
12.) Look At The Lilacs – Binger

The lilacs around town have begun to fade but what a show they have put on for the last couple of weeks. I missed Ellen at the show last week, but did catch Howard and Shakers and really enjoyed both. OK, here is a song that really speaks about Burlington Vermont.

13.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
14.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
15.) Ornan – Dirty Blondes
16.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland

I heard that John M Whyte has joined Ornan McLean in the Blondes and both play in Elephants so i had to play those two. Can’t wait to see him play a show with them. Great songs from Doubtfire and Violint. There’s a guy around town named Joe who makes and brings us lots of music. Here is one of his songs.

17.) Stratosphere – Joe Adler
18.) Forsythia – Cricket Blue
19.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
20.) 45 (live) – Clever Girls

Such a complex and beautiful song from the Girls. Great song from the enchanting Hana Zara. Cricket are so wonderful and so is Joe. OK, here is a Burlington classic.

21.) My Old Boyfriend – Wide Wail
22.) Ladybug – Ninja Custodian
23.) Always Monica/Down At The Duck – Chin Ho
24.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker

Great newish song from Milton. Classics from Chin, Ninja, and Wail. OK, here’s a brand new song from Swale. They are just about to drop the new album There’s No One Here and this is a breezy instrumental.

25.) Here’s Where You Are – SWALE
26.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale
27.) Last Love – Myra Flynn Music
28.) Once Upon – Vedora

Classic song from Caroline Marie. Her band Steady Betty is playing around town for Jazzfest. Myra is playing at least one show and doing a songwriting workshop, which sounds cool, as part of the huge festival. Hmmm, Swale. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will be broadcast from 9-11pm US Eastern Time and can be listed to from the Facebook page link above. It will go as follows:

Song before: In The Blue Light – jane siberry
intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. I want to thank Higher Ground for filling our town with music, sponsoring our station and for helping this first artist release his new album tonight.

1.) Every Evening After – Gregory Douglass
2.) Stumble – Andriana Chobot
3.) The Alchemist – Pours
4.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila

Madaila are a fun band and that is such a fun song. I love that Pours song and like to pull it out now and then. Another great song from Andriana Chobot. OK, let’s play the next song on Giant Places.

5.) Water Rose – Lendway
6.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker
7.) Sometime Next Week – 1881
8.) Beaten Down – SWALE

Nice Beatles sound on most of those songs. 1881 were great last night at Nectar’s. I’m loving Milton’s new album. Hmmm, Lendway. This next set is inspired by a man who was beaten, but is nowhere near down.

9.) This Land Is Your Land – VT Artists
10.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 VT artists
11.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday

Such loving tributes to the man, and such great words by the man himself. OK, let’s play some rock and roll. I’m so psyched for the ENVY Reunion Show! tonight at The Monkey House that I found a way to be in two places at once. Here are a couple of Envy songs and a couple of related songs.

12.) Imaginary – Envy
13.) 1,000 Lies – Sean Toohey
14.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
15.) Sunday – Envy

That’s a classic from their Distorted Greetings album, as was the first song. Sean and Matt Hutton got together last year for the Places We Return RT album and that is one of the cooler songs from it. Great solo song from Sean. On bass with Envy will be Julia Austin so here is a song from her old band.

16.) Chop Wood Carry Water – Zola Turn
17.) All My Life – Wide Wail
18.) Finder – Madelines
19.) Circumstance – Tokyo Storm Warning

Those were all songs from the revered mythical 1990’s Burlington music scene. There is a myth that says the scene ebbs and flows but if you look deep enough there are always amazing bands out there. This is one of the great bands who played during one of the alleged ebbs.

20.) Trading Bullets – Fire The Cannons
21.) Dementalist – Villanelles
22.) Symptom Of The Universe – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
23.) Tornado Head – Barbacoa

Barbacoa are opening for Envy tonight. I love the surf versions of the Sabbath songs that the Breaks do. Villanelles were great for all four Wednesdays in July at Nectar’s. OK, lets ease up a bit as we head towards the close. This band played 20 songs in an hour last Saturday at Nectar’s.

24.) BS Passes – Black Rabbit
25.) Angela Carter – Cricket Blue
26.) One For One – Andriana Chobot
27.) The Great Wide – Gregory Douglass

I thought I’d end where I began, with great songs from Gregory and Andriana. Cricket will play on Saturday at The Skinny Pancake and they are a great duo. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Songs after:
View From The Hill – Fish
Strontium Burning – TILT

Tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM runs from 9-11pm US Eastern time and will go as follows:

Song before: New Americana – Halsey

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I have been so inspired by Bernie’s valiant run for President. No matter what happens next, he has gotten his message out to the people in staggering ways. He has inspired people in ways that we will not understand for years, but we do have some music that has been inspired by his highest ideals. Let’s begin tonight with some of those.

1.) Bernie Is A Punk – BERN UNIT
2.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
3.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vt Musicians

His message is so wonderfully inspiring and I’m glad he has the chance to spread it to so many people. OK, here is the last song on Callisto. I will have to pick a new album to play all the way through next week.

4.) Skydiving – Alpenglow
5.) Violet – Sneakers Jazz Band – Live at White Crow
6.) Rocket – Soule Monde I Burlington, VT

Soule will play around at Jazzfest. I had to play Violet since the Sneakers band are so great. What a lovely way to end the Callisto album. OK, Soule are also playing a few shows with Josh Weinstein and Bob Wagner at Nectar’s as Soule Indomitable so let’s play a Kat Wright song.

7.) Let’s Move – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
8.) Aerosol Ball – The Felice Brothers
9.) Zigzagging Toward The Light – Conor Oberst

I really enjoyed the Connor show with the Felice Brothers at Higher Ground last Tuesday and wanted to play some of their music. Great song by Kat and the band. On Monday I got to see a cool band called Silver Bridget. I don’t have any of their music to play but they did a great version of this next song. This next song is a cover of a classic as performed by a band who will play the top of the block on Church St on Friday Night.

10.) Starman – Madaila
11.) See Me On My Way – Superhuman Happiness
12.) Rise – Barika
13.) ComeTooLate – Paper Castles

Castles played a new bar called Side Bar on Wednesday. I should check that place out soon. Barika and Superhuman will be playing around this weekend. Great cover from Madaila. This next band played at Higher Ground last Sunday.

14.) Could You be The One? – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
15.) Chopped And Channeled – Barbacoa
16.) The Big One – The High Breaks
17.) Carnage – Black Rabbit

I’m psyched to see Rabbit on Saturday at Four Quarters Brewery in Winooski. The Breaks will play in Nectar’s garage window on Saturday and on Church St on Sunday. Barbacoa are playing at The Skinny Pancake on Saturday. This next band will feature some bass playing at Manhattan Pizza and Pub on Saturday.

18.) Local Lore – Savage Hen
19.) No Way – Phantom Suns
20.) Fight – When Particles Collide
21.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS

I got to chat with Urian Hackney who said the new Francis album should be out around Labor Day. Woo hoo!! Great new song from Particles. Phantom played The Monkey House on Wednesday. This next song is a personal favorite.

22.) Iron And Metal – The Mountain Says No
23.) Roll Me – The Cush
24.) The Perfect Map – Elephants of Scotland
25.) Be A Good Citizen – Pinhead

I thought I’d end where I began by speaking about citizenship. Great new song from Elephants. I love that song by The Cush. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? See Ya. Ta Ta. Goodbye

26.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
outro

Songs after: Sunsets on Empire – Fish
Strangers When We Meet – David Bowie
Radiance – The Church Band

Song before: The Man With The Child In His Eyes – Kate Bush

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  Today is my birthday so I’m going to celebrate by playing some of my favorite songs.  I hope you like them too.  If your band is not on tonight’s play list, it’s not that I don’t love you, it’s just I had two hours to pick music and I love far more than two hours worth. Every song on tonight’s list is one that I love.

1.) Angle Of The Sun – Peg Tassey
2.) Megan’s Song – Hana Zara
3.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
4.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn

Aaron is such a great guitar player and such a great guy and has a great voice and I love that song.  The Bern song has really gotten to me.  I love how easy to sing it is.  Hana is just stunning and that is such a touching song.  Peg has been one of my favorites for a long time and that is such a beautiful song, on so many levels.  OK, it’s time for the next song on Callisto.

5.) Been So Long – Alpenglow
6.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler
7.) Sober – Vedora
8.) Release The Beast – The Mountain Says No

I remember thinking that was the greatest song I had ever heard by Mountain when I first heard it.  Now I feel that way about their newer songs that will be on their next album, but since it’s not recorded yet I had to play Beast.  Vedora used to play Sober a lot when they played shows after the first album came out.  I’m glad they got that one onto the second album.  I love the huge sound.  Brothers always just fills my heart with love.  I want to send that one out to my brother Ken.  That’s such a cool song from Alpenglow.  It’s been fun hearing them evolve.  So, on Tuesday night I went over to The Monkey House and saw four great bands.  I loved the sets from Tyler Daniel Bean and Better Things.  The Path opened the night with a killer punk set.  The other band who played are one that I have come to just love.  They come around once or twice a year and always play a blistering show.  I love every song on their new album and want to showcase them a bit right now.  Thanks for everything Slingshot Dakota!!

9.) Paycheck – Slingshot Dakota
10.) Until The Day I Die – Slingshot Dakota
11.) I-78 – Slingshot Dakota
12.) Break – Slingshot Dakota

I love the new album and that song especially.  When I first saw them I got a CD single with Day and 78 run together and still love those songs.  It’s like the idea of love flowing into the practice of love.  Paycheck is such a great song.  I was so psyched when they opened with it.  OK, let’s play a great rock and roll song.

13.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
14.) Satellite – Guster
15.) Sparks – The Color Exchange
16.) The Next Instead – Swale

I love so many of Swale;s songs.  Picking one was hard, but Next always gets me going.  Color came to town and played Nectar’s one night a year or so ago.  I’ve loved Sparks ever since.  Ryan Miller from Guster keeps turning up at cool local events.  Satellite is such a great song.  I love how it sounds back to back with Sparks.  Earthquakes always rocks me.  I’m beginning to really like a lot of songs on Binger’s new album, but this one from their last EP always lights me up.

17.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
18.) Symptom Of The Universe – Surf Sabbath
19.) Bulletproof Vest – Zola Turn
20.) Orange Like Water – The Cush

I was lucky enough to see The Cush many times when they lived in Vermont.  That is from their most recent album and it’s great to know they are still making great music and I can’t wait until the next time they are able to come back and enchant us.  I’ve always loved Zola and wanted to play Vest because it rocks so hard.  I love The High Breaks and their rearranged Sabbath songs are just wonderful.  Hmmm Binger.  Keep writing those great words and playing that great music.  This is a great song from one of the most elegantly powerful bands to come out of Burlington.

21) Somewhere Far – The Red Telephone
22.) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle
23.) 1965 – The New Siberians
24.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker

We are on the cusp of summer and that one always reminds me of beautiful summer nights.  I’m 51 today and was born in 1965.  Hero are a band I caught a couple times in their short incarnation and love the sweep of their songs.  I love a lot of Telephone songs but that one was just calling to me.  On Monday, the Dirty Blondes are playing at Nectar’s.  I love them because they rock so hard.

25.) Ornan’s Song – Dirty Blondes
26.) TFAY – Elephants Of Scotland

I love that Elephant’s song.  Ornan plays drums for both bands.  I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week.  Bye.  See Ya.  Sayonara.

27.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

outro

Songs after: Garden Party/Market Square Heroes – Marillion

Tantalized – The Church

As always, I want to thank everyone who made tonight’s show on WBKM possible. Thanks to: Kate Bush, Peg Tassey MUSIC, Hana Zara, Aaron Flinn, Alpenglow, Joe Adler, Johnnie Day Durand, Vedora, Caroline Marie, The Mountain Says No, Andrew Frappier, Justus Gaston, Jedd Kettler, Ben Maddox, Slingshot Dakota, Carly Comando, Tom Patterson, Carly Comando, Phil Yates & The Affiliates, Phil Yates, Raph Worrick, Jacob Blodgett, The Color Exchange, Justin Ellis, SWALE, Tyler Bolles, Jeremy Frederick, Eric Olsen, Amanda Gustafson, Binger, Dalton Muzzy, Braden Winslow, Shakir Stephen, The High Breaks, Matthew Bryan Hagen, Todd Gevry, Kevin Lynam, Julia Austin, Alice Austin, The Cush, Burette Douglas, Gabrielle Douglas, The Red Telephone, Matt Hutton, The New Siberians, Brendan Devitt, Ted Pappadopoulos, Sarah Blacker, Dirty Blondes, Chris Clark, Rebecca Rogers, Diane Sullivan, Ornan McLean, Elephants of Scotland, Adam Rabin, John M Whyte, Dan MacDonald, Black Rabbit, Jane Boxall Percussion, Marc Scarano, Darlene Scarano, Fish, MARILLION – THE FISH YEARS, Marillion, The Church Band, Tony Gallucci, and everyone else!!!!

I’ve had to prerecord my shows recently to match up the Net signal with the FM signal. Tonight’s show will go as follows.

Song before: Let’s Go Crazy – Prince

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  I had to prerecord last weeks show so on Wednesday I saw the Church and then was gutted to hear that Prince had passed away on Thursday.  I had a ton of respect for him and was blown away the one time I saw him.  Both The Monkey House and Higher Ground have tribute nights to Prince coming up soon.  And, if Prince’s loss did not leave you cold enough, Vermont got a nice little snowstorm on Tuesday.  That’s such a Vermont thing to have happen.  It’s kind of wild to see flowers in bloom and covered in snow.  Local artist Jeremy Gilchrist took some cool pictures of the phenomena so let’s begin tonight with one of his songs.

1.) Clocks On The Wall – Jeremy Gilchrist
2.) Science Fiction – Hana Zara
3.) Kentucky – Cricket Blue
4.) Let’s Move – Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band

That’s such a great song from Kat and the band.  I can’t wait for the new album.  That’s a cool song from Cricket.  They are playing on Sunday at the Radio Bean, if you want to check them out.  That’s such a powerful song from Hana.  Great song from Jeremy.  OK, let’s play the next song from Callisto.

5.) Wishing Well – Alpenglow
6.) Stay – Slingshot Dakota
7.) Presence – Satori Bob
8.) Better Half – Abbie Morin

Abbie is recording a Live At The Fort show on Thursday night, tonight, at the Skinny Pancake.  Satori are a combination of John Baumann and Bob Gagnon.  John used to play that song at coffee shops all around Burlington.  Bob still plays all around Vermont.  I can’t wait until Slingshot come to town on May 10th.  Yea.  Great rocker from Alpenglow.  On Friday Binger release their new album at ArtsRiot.  Here is one of the new songs:

9.) If I Knew – Binger
10.) Sequoia I – Binger
11.) Sequoia II – Binger
12.) Sequoia III – Binger
13.) Strings – Bingr

That was another new Binger song.  The middle three were from their last EP.  OK, usually I play music by Vermont musicians but for this next set I will play some songs about Vermont.

14.) Moonlight In Vermont – Willie Nelson
15.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
16.) The Tradeoff In Vermont – Lindy Pear
17.) Hallelujah The Hills – Hallelujah The Hills

Great Vermont references in that song.  Lindy used to always be the second band on at the Radio Bean birthday party, though not for the last couple of years.  I love the Burlington imagery in the Bern song.  Such a classic from Willie.  So, the HTH song was from an older album, but they just released a new one called A Band Is Something To Figure Out.  On May 12 Swale will head to Boston to play a show with HTH, so here is a song from the new album.

18.) Hassle Magnet – Hallelujah The Hills
19.) Everyone Likes To – Swale
20.) Screwball – Screaming Broccoli
21.) Jan Michael Vincent – Chin Ho

Classics from Chin and Broccoli.  Burlington’s music scene became so great back in the ’90’s and has stayed that way.  Great rocker from Swale.  I love that new Hills song.  OK, there is time for a few more.  Let’s keep rocking.

22.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
23.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
24.) New Age Woman – Pinhead

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

25.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

Outro

Songs After: Crucifix Corner – Fish

Emerald – Ace Frehley

Purple Rain – Prince

Tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM and streaming at the WBKM Facebook page featured some highlights of the music that happened in town last week, highlighted a couple of upcoming shows and featured a bunch of new music from a cool Burlington band.

Song before: Almost With You – The Church

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last week I made it to one of the Hedwig and the Angry Inch shows they did at ArtsRiot. I loved the show and the local band who just rocked. The show had lots of glitter and sparkle and it made me think of this classic Burlington song.

1.) It’s Purple And It Sparkles – Zola Turn
2.) Midnight Radio – Hedwig and the Angry Inch original cast recording
3.) Popular Crowd – Swale.

Swale played the Hedwig after show party and played some great songs, many of them new. I love the build in Midnight which was the ending song from Hedwig. I love Zola. OK, it’s time for the next song on Alpenglow’s album Callisto.

4.) Holiday – Alpenglow
5.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
6.) Sun In The Sky – Ninja Custodian
7.) Upstream – The New Siberians

I’m loving that new Siberians song. Brendan Devitt is in the Siberians now and was in Ninja back in the day. I want to dedicate Sun to everyone who is going through a rough time. There is always a sun in the sky and you are a valuable part of the life that keeps moving on. We’re all in it together so help your friends and let them help you when you need it. Classic song from Zoot. What a legend in Burlington. Great new song from Alpenglow that is a bit more rocking than usual for them. This week, Cricket Blue released a new EP called IO. It’s full of legendary imagery and great music.

8.) Angela Carter – Cricket Blue
9.) Eleanor – Cricket Blue
10.) Trouble Come No More – Cricket Blue
11.) Kentucky – Cricket Blue

Wow, what an EP. I just could not pick one song so I had to play it all. OK, it’s the political season. I love the opening line to this song. It’s all about it being OK to disagree and not have to talk about it if you do.

12.) East Jabib (live) – REDadmiral
13.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
14.) This Land Is Your Land – VT artists

I love the version of the classic song done in honor of Bernie Sanders by a ton of great local musicians. The Bern song has such a nice portrait of life in Burlington. Great song from Admiral. They will be one of the many bands playing at the Monkey House on 4/20. This next artist will be at that show too.

15.) Relax – Joe Adler
16.) Winter Is Over – Apartment 3
17.) Monocacy – Slingshot Dakota
18.) You Took – The Church

Unfortunately, I will miss the Monkey 420 show since on April 20 I will go to the Tupelo Music Hall in New Hampshire and see The Church. They will play all of The Blurred Crusade so I had to play You Took and start the show with Almost With You. I’m so excited. I’m also excited by Slingshot Dakota playing at the Monkey House on May 10. I’m loving their new album Break. Apartment will be at the 420 Monkey show. That’s a pretty cool song. Hmm, I love Joe songs. Let’s keep with the theme, and if this next set makes you want to call your legislators, feel free.

19.) Gettin High – Heavy Plains
20.) Seeds And Stems – The New Siberians
21.) Grandma Betty – Brother Zag
22.) Space Weed Zombies – Wave Of The Future

I love the funky heavy rock of Wave. Great song from one of Burlington’s most obscure singer songwriters. Seeds is from the Siberians first album. Plains are such a great rocking band, especially live. OK, let’s keep rocking.

23.) Poem For Torin/Ethan’s Stoned – Peg Tassey
24.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No

I may have to head over to Manhattan Pizza after the show and see Mountain. They go on at 11:30. Fantastic song from Peg. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? Ta ta, farewell, see ya.

25.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
Outro

I just got back from my local music radio show, streaming online at our Facebook page, WBKM.ORG and over the airwaves at 107.1FM. I highlighted a couple of upcoming shows and played some rock and roll.

Song before: Dannemora – Seth Yacovone

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Last Friday I made it out to see The High Breaks at Juniper at Hotel Vermont. They have just released their debut album and I got a copy. It’s called Droppin’ Off With The High Breaks. Let’s begin with a couple of songs from it.

1.) Ankle Breaker – The High Breaks
2.) Wicked World – The High Breaks
3.) The Big One – The High Breaks

Great rockers from the band. When they played last Friday they tossed in a few of the Surf Sabbath songs, including Wicked, so I thought that would be fun to toss Wicked into the set. OK, let’s continue on with the next song on Bernie Sanders album.

4.) This Land Is Your Land – Bernie Sanders and 30 VT Artists
5.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
6.) Mon Ange – Francesca Blanchard
7.) Friends – Myra Flynn

Great song from Myra. Francesca has a ton of shows coming up soon. I’m still loving the Bern song and Bernie and his message. So, a week ago Wednesday I got to see The Nancy Druids at WRUV then I got to see them again last Monday at the Monkey House. They put on a great show. I don’t have any of their music but here is some from Sean’s previous bands.

8.) 1,000 Lies – Sean Toohey
9.) Sunday – Envy
10.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone

Sean did that song with Matt Hutton last year. Sunday is a classic rocker from the ’90’s. Great solo song from Sean in the ’90’s. Speaking of the ’90’s, one of the classic bands from that era, The Pants, just had a movie made about them. The movie will be shown at Higher Ground on Saturday and then a ton of local musicians will play some Pants songs and maybe a few other classics from the era. Here are a few songs from the Pants;

11.) Vermont – The Pants
12.) Cows – The Pants
13.) Overboard – The Pants
14.) High Water Mark – The Pants

There’s a pretty good chance you will hear all of those on Saturday. You may hear some of the next songs too.

15.) All My Life – Wide Wail
16.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
17.) Old North Ender – James Kochalka Superstar
18.) Affection – Guppyboy

Chris Ziter & Jeff Baron from Guppyboy will be at the show. James will be at the show. Casey Rae will be at the show, and since Swale are the house band, Amanda from Wide Wail will be there. It’s going to be lots of fun. OK, up next I want to highlight a show that is happening on Friday at Club Metronome. It’s a benefit for the VNA Family Room and features Jamie Lee Thurston & The Starline Rhythm Boys.

19.) Best Damn Night – Jamie Lee Thurston
20.) Somebody Up There Loves Me – The Starline Rhythm Boys
21.) You Make Me See Stars – Lonestar Chain

Lonestar were Burette Douglas’ solo band and wrote a bunch of great songs, including that one. Stars always gets me going. Cool songs from Starline and Jamie. OK, let’s play some classic Burlington rock.

22.) Moving Song – Zola Turn
23.) Not True – Peg Tassey
24.) TFAY – Elephants Of Scotland
25.) Green Apple Girl – Dave Jarvis

Dave always wrote and played such fun songs. TFAY is such a great song. I just love Peg’s voice and energy and songs. Same goes for Zola. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? Goodbye, Ta ta. See You, Sayonara.

26.Sayonara – Black Rabbit

I had a fun time doing my local music radio show last night on 107.1FM and on the internet at WBKM.ORG. It’s just amazing how much great music we have in this town.

Song before: On The Air – Peter Gabriel

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last night I got a chance to go to WRUV and hang out while the Nancy Druids played live in the studio on their local music show Exposure. The Druids don’t have anything recorded yet, so let’s begin tonight with a song from Sean’s former band, and that will give you a hint of what they sound like.

1.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
2.) Paranoid – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
3.) The Next Instead – Swale

I love the sweep of the Swale song. They will play a fun show next week, but more on that later. The High Breaks play fun and intense surf rock, and recently rearranged several Black Sabbath songs into surf versions. They released them all for free on Bandcamp so I had to play one of the songs. Great song from Telephone. OK, it’s time for the next song on the Bernie Sanders EP that I am working my way through, song after song, week after week until I’ve played it all.

4.) Where Have All The Flowers Gone – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont artists
5.) Forsythia – Cricket Blue
6.) Dreaming Too Much – Alpenglow
7.) Break – Slingshot Dakota

That is the title song from Slingshot’s brand new album. They are from PA but come to town to play on a regular basis. They will be at the Monkey House May 10th, Another great new song from Alpenglow’s new album Callisto. Cricket have shows coming up in March and April all around New England. I think they have new music coming soon too. So, a week from Saturday, there is a show at Higher Ground to show a movie that was recently made about ’90’s rock band The Pants. They will show the movie, ‘High Water Mark, The Rise And Fall Of The Pants” then Swale will be the house band and lots of local musicians will come up to play Pants songs. Here’s a few that will join in.

8.) High Water Mark – The Pants
9.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
10.) Satellite – Guster
11.) Hit – Blue Button

Jason Cooley and Eric Olsen from BB will be at the show. Ryan Miller from Guster will be at the show. Amanda Gustafson from Wide Wail will be at the show, and Tom Lawson from the Pants will be at the show. I’m sure lots of others will be there as well. OK, the Surf Sabbath song was so fun, let’s play another.

12.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
13.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink Or Swim
14.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death

I was watching Vinyl last week and it was so cool when Politicians played. I thought it would be fun to pull it out this week. Great song from local rockers Swim. The Surf versions of Sabbath songs are so fun. Here’s a song I’ve always enjoyed.

15.) 1965 – The New Siberians
16.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
17.) Finder – Madelines
18.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No

Great song from Mountain. Finder is a classic from the ’90’s. Aaron is such a great guitar player and songwriter. The Siberians song just rocks. OK, let’s play another new Slingshot song.

19.) Monocacy – Slingshot Dakota
20.) The Call – Swillbillie
21.) Hold Me Tight – The Decentz

Tight always gets me dancing around the studio. I hope you had fun with it too. Great strong song from Swillbillie. I love everything about that Slingshot song. This next song is a new one that has been getting me going lately.

22.) If I Knew – Binger
23.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
24.) This Land Is Your Land – VT artists.

Such a lovely version of that song from some of the area’s finest musicians. I love the lyric in the Bern song. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
