Tonight’s local music radio show will run from 9-11pm June 15th and can be heard on 107.1FM or from the Facebook page of WBKM and will go as follows,

Song before: I Don’t Remember – Peter Gabriel

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a beautiful week of warm and hot sunny days so let’s head to the beach.

1.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork
2.) A Walk On Ballard Beach – The High Breaks
3.) I Wanna Be A Lifeguard – Blotto
4.) Blue Sky – Black Rabbit
5.) Lovely Day – gneiss

It’s been so nice to have so many lovely days lately. Gneiss are at Red Square tonight. There has been lots of blue sky lately and Rabbit sing such a cool song about it. They played a great show last Friday at The Monkey House. I remember seeing Blotto a couple of times at Hunts a long time ago. Great song from the Breaks. Now that Phil has taken the Affiliates joke to Chicago, it’s time for us to embrace the Ray Fork joke. OK, let’s play the next song on Camera.

6.) Shortcuts – 1881
7.) Miranda – Ninja Custodian
8.) Voodoo Camaro – Wide Wail
9.) Windows down – Lendway

It’s the perfect time to drive around with the windows down, perhaps in a magical camero. Classic song from Ninja. I’m working my way through the set of EP’s from 1881 called Lights, Camera, and Action song by song, week by week. OK, last Saturday I joined the Friends of Jim’s Basement and saw these next four bands.

10.) Winnebago – Ellen Degenerates
11.) Goner – REDadmiral
12.) Shark – Greaseface
13.) Fruity Pebbles (Legend Of The Samurai) – Shred Flintstone
14.) Cross Country – Steven Wright

I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at WBKM and for bringing Mr Wright to the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts tomorrow, and for all of the other great music they bring to our community all the time. Great song from the New Jersey band with such a great name. Flintstone rocked hard in Jim’s basement last week. Greaseface also put on a brilliant show that night. Admiral have stripped down to more of a acoustic band and were cool last Saturday too. Ellen closed that show nicely. OK, let’s play another Burlington classic.

15.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
16.) Fly On The Wall – Zola Turn
17.) Heartbreak Baby – Villanelles
18.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica

Great song from Vetica. Heartbreak rocks hard. Same for Zola. Such a fun song from Zoot. OK, let’s go out for a ride.

19.) Freeway – Totally Submerged
20.) The Mime – Joe Adler
21.) I Am A Hatchet – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
22.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

Such a great song from David. It’s sad to see Phil Yates move to Chicago but at least he and the band played a blistering show at the Monkey House last Friday. I’m sure we will see him again. Joe’s been playing around lately in his new band a.m. rejoice which I seem to keep missing. It’s hard to miss Submerged since they play all around Vermont all the time. OK, let’s keep up the theme with a song about the ocean.

23.) Song About The Ocean – Dino Bravo VT
24.) Sober – Vedora
25.) In The Rain – Plan B

Plan are a classic Burlington band from the ’80’s. I love how huge that song is. I always loved it when Vedora played Sober and Matt went way off on guitar. Hmmm, song about the ocean. Hmmmm. OK, there’s not much time left so let’s keep rocking.

26.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
27.) Something I Drew – farm
28.) Mr Reed – Seth Yacovone Band

Great rocker from Seth Yacovone and the guys. Classic song from Farm who played in the 2000’s. Great rocker from Anders. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song before: Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes) – Def Leppard

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. As a music fan I’m happy to leave myself in the capable hands of the many great musicians out there. I almost never want to offer advice, except for this. Please, record your music and release your records.

1.) Release Your Records – SWALE
2.) Always Monica – Chin Ho
3.) Souvenir – The Depth and the Whisper
4.) The River – Kat Wright

That’s the next wonderful song on By My Side, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song.. Whisper played a lovely show at Radio Bean last Sunday. Thanks to Ryan Cohen for recording us and to the band for playing such great versions of those songs and for hanging out and chatting with me. OK, these next two bands will be at The Monkey House on Saturday and I will be out of town on a trip with my mother and brother. Can everyone go in my place?

9.) Time To Save The World – Carraway
10.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
11.) Iron And Metal – The Mountain Says No
12.) The Bad Year – Carraway

That’s going to be a great show with those too bands. OK, last Sunday before The Depth And The Whisper I caught one song from the opening band. The bass player for the band performed earlier as a solo act and gave me a CD to check out. It’s pretty cool. Here’s a song.

14.) Totally Submerged – Totally Submerged
15.) Hole In The Sky – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)

I had a great time seeing music last night at Radio Bean. It was a long hard work day and I got out at 9:30, did a quick turnaround, then arrived at the club close to the 10:30 start time. The band were still setting up so I got a drink and chatted with a guy named Cody that I met a couple of weeks ago while hanging out with Daffy Mal Yinkleyank.

Soon enough Totally Submerged took the stage and released their solid classic rock into the air. The guitar/vocals, keys/bass/vocals, drummer/vocals band lit into a nice groove. Each member took turns on lead vocals and they had a nice sound. They rocked out Start Of Something Good then got Hung Up On You. A cover of Eight Days A Week was fun and the audience enjoyed it. The next song was a mostly instrumental funky song that featured some sweet keyboard work. The next one was something about feeling the breeze or the whoa oh song, or possibly Here We Go Again. They brought the rock into high gear for I’m Going Out Of Town and I was in a happy place. Get Out And Go followed and featured a cool triple vocal part.

At some point Lee Anderson said I should check out Kaitlyn Raitz and Ben Plotnick next door at the Lamp Shop. I popped over as Submerged’s keyboard player switched to bass. I missed that whole song but the violin cello duo at the Lamp shop were playing like crazy.

At the end of the duo’s song, I popped back to the Bean as Submerged rocked out It’ll All Be Over Soon. The next song was really cool and was about singing our song and getting higher and higher. Since they were in Burlington they played a blistering cover of Phish’s 46 Days. They followed with Ziggy Stardust then capped the night with an instrumental that began with a moody keyboard then built into a rock epic that featured some sweet guitar playing and amazing drumming before slipping back into the moody keyboard outro. I think it was called Rainy Alley.

After that I hung out for a bit, chatted with Cody and the band and Matthew who was behind the bar. Fun and crazy stories were shared then the hour became late and I took the short walk home.
