I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I got in early and recorded all my breaks and set them in the queue and only the first one played and I introduced a band that did not play. I was supposed to start with 3 songs by Anachronist, but none played. None of my breaks between bands played. Rats! It turned out to just have the intro then only the songs played until the outro. I knew it would be better to do it live, but I really wanted to see The Vacant Lots at the BCA center, and at least they were excellent. I’m feeling like I let us all down tonight.

Songs Before:
Dreams of Reason – The Tea Party (Official)
Something On – The Tragically Hip

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. My name is Tim and I’m recording this early and Heading out to see Pours and The Vacant Lots at the BCA center. Tonight let’s play sets by different bands so you can hear how they evolve. Let’s start with the next song on Row. This is He’s Still Here by Anachronist on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. It had a wet and cool feel to it.

Song before: Life On Mars? – David Bowie (Official)

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a cool evening in Burlington and we just had a strong rainstorm come in from the west. I went to Montreal on Monday with my brother Ken to see Judas Priest, and when I got home, the new album by The Red Telephone was waiting for me. This is Under The Northern Sky by The Red Telephone on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Under The Northern Sky – The Red Telephone
2.) Waiting For You – Swale
3.) Say Something – Silent Mind
4.) The Mime – Joe Adler

Great song from Joe’s new album. I just got Say Something and really like it. I will have to check them out more. Great song from Swale. Here is the next song from Anachronist‘s Row EP.

5.) Say It – Anachronist
6.) Tumbling Down – Raq
7.) New Atlantis – Aaron Flinn

Great song by Aaron. I thought it would fit the mood of the evening. The Raq song had me rocking. Up next is a classic Burlington band that I have not played. It’s time to change that!!

8.) West Wind – The Eames Brothers Band
9.) Masquerade For Heartache – The Starline Rhythm Boys
10.) Flood Victim – Zoot Wilson

Zoot is a legend in this town. Eames And Starline have been playing around for a long time and play a lot now. I’m happy to finally get them on my show. Wednesday night I went to Radio Bean to see Hana Zara. She opened with this one.

11.) Afterlife – Hana Zara
12.) Mad Captain – Brother Zag
13.) Under Bright Stars – Alice Austin
14.) All The Same To You – Milton Busker

I just love that Milton song. Great newish song from Alice. Brother Zag, Burlington’s most unknown performer, though kind of known otherwise. I love the lyrics that Hana sings. Let’s kick up the pace a bit.

15.) Spy-Fi – Barbacoa
16.) Flypaper – Persian Claws
17.) Any Day Now – The Dig
18.) The Last Thing – The Dig

Those two were from 2006, but they are playing Signal Kitchen tomorrow, so I wanted to play something by them. Great songs from Barbacoa and Persian. This next band have played around so much, they are honorary Vermonters. They will play the Flynn Theater in January.

19.) New Orleans Is Sinking – The Tragically Hip
20.) The River – The Tea Party (Official)

The Tea Party used to play town all the time. They just released a new album and are playing at Metropolis in Montreal in November. That was a song from their first album that was recorded at White Crow Audio in Burlington. It would be great if someone brought them back to town. This next band are coming back to town on November 7th at Arts Riot. I don’t have anything new to play, so here is a song from the last album.

21.) Telepathic Headdress – The Cush
22.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone

Another new song from Places You Return, the new album by The Red Telephone. I haven’t played any Binger yet tonight.

23.) Buttonz – Binger
24.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
25.) Last Night In Amsterdam – The Red Telephone

That was the last song from Places You Return. I’m so psyched to get to know the album. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

song after: Scattering Crows – Fish

I just got home from radio show number 10. It was a bit weird having someone else in the studio, but Caroline O’Connor was great.

Song before: Young Man Blues – The Who

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. Tonight I have Caroline O’Connor joining me in the studio. Here is a bit of her playing saxophone on WBKM, Burlington’s Kind of Music

1.) Intro – Caroline O’Connor
2.) Burlington VT (?) hidden song from Good Citizen soundtrack
3.) Hit – Blue Button
4.) I Need A Raise – The Cave Bees

Talked about seeing the Cave Bees do that song at Mardi Gras one year, on the 7 Days float. Talked about the rhythm section being the same for Bees and Blue Button, and said they were playing out, probably right when I was doing my show. Mentioned the Burlington song and set up the interview with Caroline. I have been playing the Vedora album, When Dusk Falls, song by song, week after week, in order. Tonight is show number 10, so it will be the last song. Next week I will start on New Appreciation for Sunshine and play it all the way through, over the next several weeks. I asked Caroline about how Vedora came to be, what they are doing now, and to tell me a bit about the Cush, since she plays on the album a bit. That’s her on sax for Roll Me. OK, it’s time to play the last song…

5.) Solution – Vedora
6.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
7.) Sun Going Down – The Tea Party

Talked about the Tea Party recording their debut album at White Crow Audio near Pine st, and a blisteringly loud show at Metronome. Talked about buying the new Contrarian album, and paying for the last one that I downloaded for free. It’s important to pay for music that moves you. Hmmm, Vedora. Talked about Sarah Sarah Emily Blacker winning the New England Music Awards Female Performer of the Year, and how she would be back in town July 12th for a CD release party.

8.) When I was New – Sarah Blacker
9.) Dark and Quirky – Jen Karson
10.) Jet Pilot High – The Red Telephone
11.) Burning Down the House – Rangers of Danger

Talked about Joe and the band recording live at Nectar’s. Talked about how Jet makes me soar. Talked about loving Dark and Quirky, and how good Arom Bedrosian is. Mentioned Sarah

Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song after: Heaven and Hell – The Who
