Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG and 107.1FM will go as follows:

Song before: Over The Rainbow/Kill The King – Rainbow

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s spring and flowers are coming out and the leaves are beginning to form on the trees. I’ve been watching the lilac leaves come out and now the flowers are beginning to form. Let’s begin tonight with a brand new song from Binger’s brand new album Skeptics.

1.) Look At The Lilacs – Binger
2.) Doreen – Slingshot Dakota
3.) Chuck Berry – Dino Bravo
4.) Year Of The Snake – Tyler Daniel Bean

Tomorrow is the beginning of a massive 3 day music festival called Waking Windows. It will be held at many venues all around the Winooski traffic circle. It runs Friday from 5pm-2am, Saturday from noon to 2am and Sunday from 11zm to midnight. Hundreds of bands will play. Many will be local and many from out of town. Tyler and Dino will both play early on Friday. Slingshot are not part of the festival but are in town next Tuesday at the Monkey House. I love the new Binger album. Here are some more of the bands who will play on Friday.

5.) Alienation – Black Rabbit
6.) Monsters Are Due – Doom Service
7.) Above The Frequency – Invisible Homes
8.) Tornado Head – Barbacoa

It’s quite possible that all of those songs will get played tomorrow. Here are some more bands who are playing Friday.

9.) Grass Is Always Greener – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
10.) I Got A Job – Maryse Smith
11.) Ricky The Rider – The Mountain Says No
12.) Heartbreak Baby – Villanelles

That is a song from Villanelles new album Blue Heart Attack. There is a chance they will play that one Friday at WW. Mountain said they are only playing new songs, so likely Ricky will not get played, but I had to pick something of theirs. I love that song. Maryse and Phil are playing on Friday too. These next bands are playing late on Friday. .

13.) Waiting For You – Swale
14.) Money Gnomes – Arc Iris
15.) The Big One – The High Breaks

The Breaks will close out Friday. I’m so psyched to see Iris again. Their shows are so great. Hmmm, Swale. OK, here are some bands that will play Saturday at Waking Windows.

16.) The First Of May – Colin Nicholas Clary
17.) The Champagne Room – The Smittens
18.) Let Go – Lowell Thompson
19.) What If – REDadmiral
20.) Siddhartha – Wren Kitz

Wren has a set at WW on Saturday. That’s a new song from Admiral. Perhaps they will play it on Saturday. Lowell always puts on a great show. Since it’s now May, I had to play the Colin song and one from his band The Smittens, who are playing WW on Saturday. OK, it’s time for the next song on the album Callisto. Alpenglow are playing WW on Saturday too.

21.) Following The Scene – Alpenglow
22.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila
23.) The Alchemist – Pours

Pours have a set at WW on Saturday. So do Madaila and Alpenglow. These next bands have sets on Saturday too.

Saturday should be great at Waking Windows. Here are some of the bands who will play Sunday at WW.

27.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains
28.) The Feeling – Vedora
29.) Shoreline In Jersey – Joe Adler

Joe will be playing at Waking Windows with Wee Folkestra on Sunday. Vedora are not playing, but Matt Hastings has a set as Ver Sacrum and Caroline Marie has a set. Heavy plains will no doubt rock. OK, there are a ton of other bands playing on Suday, but I want to go back to the new Binger album to close the show.

30.) Resurrection In Sanskrit I – Binger
31.) Resurrection In Sanskrit II – Binger

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I highlighted a few of the many bands that are playing Waking Windows this weekend. Most of the commentary between songs was when and where the bands are playing, so I will leave the website as a comment and leave the talking spaces blank.

Song before: Windows Down – Lendway

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there will be a staggering amount of music in Winooski. I’m going to highlight a lot of that, but want to start with what happened last weekend. It was great to see Elephants of Scotland play at Brutopia as part of the Marillion weekend in Montreal. Elephants played Nectar’s a couple of weeks ago, and it was cool to see them in Canada. There were lots of people who wanted to be there and knew their music and were so excited to see them. It was pretty great. They played a nice version of this one. This is TFAY by Elephants of Scotland on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland
2.) Slash & Burn – Zero Circle
3.) Broken Paths, Dead Ends – Better Things

BT and ZC are over at Club Metronome tonight opening for Hawthorne Heights. OK, it’s Waking Windows time. I’m going to run through the schedule in order and play bands that I have music for. This is a tiny sampling of the massive amount of music that will happen this weekend. It starts at 5pm and this artist is one of the ones that will kick it off.

4.) Headlights and Liquer – Kelly Ravin
5.) Grass Is Always Greener – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
6.) Little Song – Invisible Homes
7.) Obligatory Sad Love Song – The Smittens

8.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western
9.) The Alchemist – Pours
10.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
11.) Catskills – Alpenglow

This next band play Friday night, then we will move on to Saturday.

12.) Wiser – And The Kids
13.) 1.21 Gigawats Great Scott – Doom Service
14.) Wino – REDadmirial
15.) Deadly Wires – Ryan Ober

Time for the next song on Swale’s album The Next Instead. Of course they are a part of this great event. They play Saturday at 3:15 on the outdoor stage.

16.) Waiting For You – Swale
17.) The Invisibles – Black Rabbit
18.) Last Girl – Lowell Thompson
19.) Low Down M2 – Vedora

20.) Ricky The Rider – The Mountain Says No
21.) Teen Beast – Barbacoa
22.) Seersucker – Endless Jags
23.) Hit – Blue Button

Linda has a regular show at Radio Bean on Friday mornings playing music for kids. She is kicking off Sunday’s shows.

24.) Tell Me – Linda Bassick
25.) Mon Ange – Francesca Blanchard
26.) Call You Up – Maryse Smith
27.) I Am The Troll – James Kochalka Superstar

28.) Chuck Berry – Dino Bravo VT
29.) See You At Eight – Villanelles
30.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains
31.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila
32.) Relax – Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger

That is a small sampling of what Burlington and Vermont sound like at the moment. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I played a lot of new songs, a couple of classics and a few with a liquid theme.

Song before: Glow Worm – The Church Band

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. There was a ton of music in town this last week, and I will highlight a little of it. There were a bunch of great bands at 242 Main on Saturday. Here’s most of them, starting with headliner Slingshot Dakota on Wbkm and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Intro – Slingshot Dakota
2.) May Day – Slingshot Dakota
3.) Black Oil – Doom Service
4.) Last Song – Carraway
5.) 40 Days – Better Things

Brad Yandow and Brian LaClair from Better Things opened the show alternating acoustic songs. Doom Service played a heavy rocking set and I just got their new EP. Carraway were pretty remarkable and I had to find their new album today. I’ve loved every Slingshot show I’ve ever seen and they were just wonderful on Saturday. On Friday, I was at Club Metronome to help The Dirty Blondes turn 16.

6.) Hallelujah – The Dirty Blondes
7.) Staring Out The Window – ROUGH FRANCIS
8.) Another Year In Vermont – Gorgon

Gogon just released a new album. I got it today and had to get that song on the air. Rough Francis have been playing a ton of killer shows lately. They seem to be playing that one a lot. They played Friday at The Monkey House but I just could not make it. OK, let’s play the next song on Lipstick And Dynamite.

9.) Tarpaulin – Black Rabbit
10.) Vitamin Dee – Persian Claws
11.) Centralia – Night Slice

Night Slice have played town a couple of times and just put out that killer new song. Persian just released their album in digital form and added Dee as a new song. Last night I saw a killer band at The Monkey House.

12.) Bright Eyes – Allo Darlin’
13.) Golden Crutch – Swale
14.) Army Of Pop Kids – The Smittens
15.) Jan Michael Vincent – Chin Ho!

With all the new music I’m playing tonight, I though I needed to toss in a classic. Jan did the job nicely. I couldn’t find any Let’s Whisper to play, they and Swale played a great show with Darlin’, so the Smittens was as close as I could come. Swale played a killer version of Crutch. Tomorrow, The Cush come back to town to play ArtsRiot. Here is a song from their first, second, and third albums.

16.) Precious Time – The Cush
17.) Small Town Movie – The Cush
18.) The Deer And The Owl – The Cush

Is it tomorrow yet??? The other day it was nice to get tagged in an FB post from Sasha Alcott and Peg Tassey, so I though it would be fun to play a song from each.

19.) Constant Disaster – When Particles Collide
20.) First Kiss – Peg Tassey MUSIC
21.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis

It’s a rainy day, so I thought I’d play a sunny Dave song. Since it’s so cold, wet, and rainy, I though I should play a song by a band called Pours.

22.) The Alchemist – Pours
23.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
24.) Three Cheers – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
25.) In The Rain – Plan B

Classic song from a classic Burlington band, and so appropriate on this rainy night. Phil Yates played that one at his solo show at Radio Bean and I’ve had acoustic versions of his songs in my head ever since. Great song by RT from their new album. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my Internet Radio Show on WBKM. Tonight I put more of the focus on the bands who have stopped by Burlington to make the scene so fantastic.

Song before: Heroes – David Bowie (live – Stages)

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. Last Saturday I saw two of the guys from Waylon Speed at the Monkey House. Here’s Waylon Speed, and they are Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) The Minor Blues – Waylon Speed

2.) The Bet – The Sideshow Tragedy

3.) Many Things and Many Scenes – Rangers of Danger

Talked about Joe, and Precipice tickets on sale now. Talked about taking a chance and seeing the guys from Waylon and being blown away by Sideshow. Took a chance and saw a great band. A lot of great bands come to town, and tonight we will spotlight a few. Next up is song three from the Cush. This is the one they had when they came to town.

4.) Small Town Movie – The Cush

5.) New Orleans is Sinking (Live w/ Nautical Disaster in the middle section) The Tragically Hip

Talked about how often the Hip come to town, and said my brother Ken went with me the last time they played, in Shelburne, and dedicated it to him. Said I would be running a few minutes late. Said Metronome mixes it up between live shows and DJ nights. Talked about a time in early 2000’s when they put on a live music focus and I got to see the next three a couple of times

6.) There’s A Fire – Longwave

7.) In The Walls – Stellastar

8.) What The Snowman Learned About Love – Stars

Talked about taking a chance and seeing lots of great music. Caroline O’Connor clued me in to this next band

9.) Brallor – Dungen

10.) Wave – Slingshot Dakota

11.) Shoulda Been Me – When Particles Collide

12.) Twee Valley High – The Smittens

Brought it back to Burlington, with the Smittens. Talked about Sasha Alcott and When Particles Collide stopping by Burlington semi-often, talked about Carly Comando and Tom Patterson making massive music and that with all the rain lately, Wave was appropriate.
