Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time June 8, 2017 and will go as follows:

Song before: I Will Dare – The Replacements

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It was a rainy week but the last couple of days have been beautiful and sunny and this town is filled to the brim with jazz. Tonight’s show will be a jazz free zone. Let’s begin with a new wispy piece of music from one of the classic bands in town.

1.) Here’s Where You Were – SWALE
2.) She Has Your Name – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
3.) Bulldozer – The Zero Likes
4.) Nightingale – 1881

That is the next song from Lights, Camera, Action and is the first song on the Camera EP. Great song. Zero Likes feature Doug McAllister from Ninja Custodian and Doug just sent me that a couple of days ago. Thanks!! Great song by Phil Yates and the band. Phil is moving on to Chicago soon and will play one more show tomorrow at The Monkey House. I will be thee. Hmmm, Swale. OK, last night I went over to Robot Dog Studio and recorded an interview with live songs from Dino Bravo. I want to thank Ryan Cohen for doing the sound, Jeff Arbor for helping to set up and Tom Wolf for doing video. Here we go.

5.) Sugar Coated Candy Stix – Dino Bravo VT
6.) Strawberry Blonde – Dino Bravo
7.) Crime Scene – Dino Bravo
8.) A Song About The Ocean – Dino Bravo

Thanks for rocking us nice and hard Dino! They mentioned they have an upcoming show with The Dirty Blondes so let’s play one of their songs.

9.) Yayo – Dirty Blondes
10.) Whiskey High – Swillbillie
11.) Too Good – Black Rabbit
12.) Ninjas Vs Zombies (Let’s Keep Our Heads) – Phil Yates

I’m happy for Phil but sad that he won’t be playing around all the time anymore. I’ve enjoyed many shows over the years and have played his music on my radio show since the second one I did in March of 2013. Black Rabbit will play the show with them tomorrow over at the Monkey House. I think Swillbillie will play the upcoming Nectar’s show with Dino and the Blondes. OK, this next band are in town tomorrow night for a show at Jim’s basement.

13.) Two Weeks (‘Til The End Of The World) – Grand
14.) On A Sunday – Screaming Broccoli
15.) Paint It Black – Silver Bridget
16.) Could You Be The One? – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

Another classic from Phil and the band. Great cover of the Stones song by Bridget. Broccoli played back in the late ’80’s in Burlington and were lots of fun. Grand are so much fun. I really like a lot of Phil’s songs but he and the band have played many shows with some really fun bands and I got to know them because of Phil. Here are a couple.

17.) Sparks – The Color Exchange
18.) Jessie – Danny LeFrancois and The Parts
19.) Tropa – YURT
20.) Flicker (Song For Clara) – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

Another great Phil song. Phil and the band played with Yurt at the Monkey House in July of 2016. They played with The Parts at Manhattan Pizza and Pub in January of this year. They played with Color Exchange at Nectar’s in 2015. This next band also played that show.

21.) This Machine – Invisible Homes
22.) Place ov Dead Roads – Casey Merlin Rae
23.) The Light – Kat Wright
24.) Grass is Always Greener – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

That one features Raph Worrick on the keys. Great rocking song from Kat and the band. Their guitar player, Bob Wagner, is joining Seth Yacovone Band tonight at Nectar’s for a band they are calling Water For Gasoline. That’s a brand new song from Casey Merlin Rae, who is living in Washington DC but comes back to play now and then. Great song from Homes. OK, there is not much time left so let’s play a few more songs as we say goodbye to the mighty and wonderful Phil Yates.

25.) Burn Burn Burn – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
26.) Burn It Down, Bernadette – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
27.) Might As Well Settle – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with a woman who has come to town for years to share her music with us. Here is the brand new song she just released.

1.) Walkabout – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association
2.) Mama – Ivamae
3.) Powder – The New Siberians
4.) Lovely Day – gneiss

That song makes me so happy. I hope it does the same for you. Great song from the Siberians debut album from a few years ago. Ivamae are so wonderfully talented. Great new song from Sarah. OK, here is the next song from Lights Camera Action and is the last song on the Lights EP.

5.) Sleepwalker – 1881
6.) Just Another Day – The Nancy Druids
7.) Alan’s Garden – Ruckzuck
8.) Last Day Of May – The Red Telephone

Today is the first of June so I thought that would be appropriate to play. After seeing Ruckzuck so much last week, I’m still pretty enthralled with them and wanted to play Garden again. Great rocker from Nancy and wonderful song about insomnia from 1881. That’s a lot of sheep to count. OK, I almost saw this band last Tuesday at Light Club Lamp Shop but I worked just late enough to miss them

9.) Sri Lanka – Ellen Degenerates
10.) I Will – Camp Howard
11.) The Field – The Dead Shakers
12.) Look At The Lilacs – Binger

The lilacs around town have begun to fade but what a show they have put on for the last couple of weeks. I missed Ellen at the show last week, but did catch Howard and Shakers and really enjoyed both. OK, here is a song that really speaks about Burlington Vermont.

13.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
14.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
15.) Ornan – Dirty Blondes
16.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland

I heard that John M Whyte has joined Ornan McLean in the Blondes and both play in Elephants so i had to play those two. Can’t wait to see him play a show with them. Great songs from Doubtfire and Violint. There’s a guy around town named Joe who makes and brings us lots of music. Here is one of his songs.

17.) Stratosphere – Joe Adler
18.) Forsythia – Cricket Blue
19.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
20.) 45 (live) – Clever Girls

Such a complex and beautiful song from the Girls. Great song from the enchanting Hana Zara. Cricket are so wonderful and so is Joe. OK, here is a Burlington classic.

21.) My Old Boyfriend – Wide Wail
22.) Ladybug – Ninja Custodian
23.) Always Monica/Down At The Duck – Chin Ho

Great newish song from Milton. Classics from Chin, Ninja, and Wail. OK, here’s a brand new song from Swale. They are just about to drop the new album There’s No One Here and this is a breezy instrumental.

25.) Here’s Where You Are – SWALE
26.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale
27.) Last Love – Myra Flynn Music
28.) Once Upon – Vedora

Classic song from Caroline Marie. Her band Steady Betty is playing around town for Jazzfest. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will run from 9-11pm Thursday May 11, and will go as follows:

Song before: Bel-Air – The Church Band

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Spring is in full bloom and the leaves are coming out and it’s almost time for the lilacs. Tomorrow is my birthday so tonight I will just play a bunch of my favorite songs. If your band is not in the list I still love your songs but I just grabbed two hours of songs that fill my heart. I’m sure I could have done a twelve hour show and still missed a lot of greatness. Let’s begin with a woman with a huge heart and powerful voice.

1.) First Kiss – Peg Tassey MUSIC
2.) Liar – Maryse Smith
3.) Happy Birthday Harry – Hana Zara
4.) Presence – Satori Bob

Satori have a new album that I will dig into next week, but Presence has spoken to me continuously since the first time I heard it 25 or so years ago. Hana’s songs are entrancing and each one is a ride to go on. She is so great. It was nice to see Maryse briefly at Waking Windows last weekend. Peg is so fantastic. OK, last week I played the last song on Kat Wright’s By My Side album, so it’s time to start a new one. Last year this next band put out three EP’s that really feel like one album. Here is the first song from Light’s, Camera, and Acton.

5.) The Storm Has Been Weathered – 1881
6.) It’ll Be OK – Let’s Whisper
7.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
8.) Alone In The Night – Andriana Chobot

I’ve been captivated by Andriana’s music since I first heard it last year. I love everything about that Carraway song. It’ll Be OK has been stuck in my head for the past few weeks. Great song from 1881. Here is another great song.

9.) Piano In Every Room – gneiss
10.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
11.) Loose Tooth – Clever Girls
12.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

I just love everything about that song. Loose was recorded live at Robot Dog Studio by Ryan Cohen. I love how it rocks so hard. Aaron has a ton of great songs and that one just had to find it’s way into this mix. I love it when there is music everywhere and a piano in every room. This next song has been stuck in my head lately too.

13.) Always Monica – Chin Ho
14.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
15.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
16.) I-90 East – ROUGH FRANCIS

I love all of Francis’ songs but there is something about that one that made it jump out at me. So, last Friday I was quickly walking down Riverside ave when a car pulled over and said Tim, get in. Thanks for the ride to Waking Windows Urian Hackney and Julian Hackney!! Politicians is a great song and I loved seeing them at the Flynn not so long ago. Earthquakes is one of my many absolute favorites. Monica, always! Every time I catch this next band I just love them.

17.) Windigo – Crazyhearse
18.) Orange Like Water – The Cush
19.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE
20.) The Revenge Of Vera Gemini – The Contrarian

That version of the Blue Oyster Cult song is so fantastic. Swale were great at Waking Windows and played a stunning version of that song. It was so wonderful to finally see the Cush again at Waking Windows. They played a stunning version of that song. Hmmm, Windigo. The first time I heard this next song it sent shivers down my spine. It still does.

21.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
22.) Black, Blue, and White – The New Siberians
23.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
24.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland

I love a lot of Elephant’s music but that one always stands out. I love the Druids so much! There are many great songs from the Siberians but that one just seemed to fit the set. Hmmm, mountain. OK, this next band always rock.

25.) Burning Bridges – Blue Button
26.) Papertrain – Dave Jarvis (Daffy Mal Yinkleyank)
27.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
28.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker

That is such a great song from Anders. I love a lot of Binger songs but always keep coming back to that one. Great song from Dave. His band Agent 802 are starting to play shows. Button always rock hard. I hope you were OK with indulging me on the day before my birthday. Next week I will play lots of new music and take some chances but tonight I just wanted to hear some favorites. See you next week.

Swale 016

I’m on vacation in Washington DC and Virginia so there is no way to do my local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM tonight (Thursday April 27) unless I had the foresight to spend last Wednesday setting up the show and doing the vocal interaction between the songs last Thursday after setting up last weeks show. Tonight’s show will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time April and can be streamed from the Facebook link above. Sorry for the early notice, I hope you remember to tune in this evening. Maybe Tony Gallucci can tag me and repost this later. It will go as follows.

Song before: Oh Freedom – Bernie Sanders

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. I’m on vacation but thanks to the magic of science and technology I can bring you the other show that I recorded last week. Tonight we will take a deep dive into a few of the great bands that Vermont is blessed with. Let’s begin with a band who have two EPs and two albums. Here’s a set of music that has been recorded since their last album, and most will be on the album they are about to unleash on us. Let’s begin with the song that may not be on the album.

1.) Black Boys On Mopeds – SWALE
2.) Wooden Heart – Swale
3.) Release Your Records – Swale
4.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale

Swale are so fantastic. I can’t wait for the new album, even though I’ve heard many of the songs many times live. It’s going to be great and I will share it with you when they release the record. OK, here is the next song on By My Side.

5.) All About You – Kat Wright
6.) By My Side (Radio Remix) – Kat Wright
7.) Dear God – Kat Wright
8.) The Light – Kat Wright

That’s another great song from By My Side. God was from Introducing. The Radio Remix was a version of the song before the new album came out. You just rock. This next singer constructs catchy songs, has a great voice, and knows how to put music fans in a happy place.

9.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker
10.) Ordinary Day – Milton Busker
11.) All The Same To You – Milton Busker
12.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker

Two of those songs are from You Are What You Pretend To Be and two are from Dance Songs Volume II. There is a lot of other great music on those albums too. These next bands are classic Burlington.

13.) Tastes Like Nothing – Zola Turn
14.) Escape Artist – Zola Turn
15.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine
16.) It’s Real Again – Zola Turn

Zola were so great in the ’90’s. After they ceased, Alice Austin and Julia Austin formed Queen Tangerine and put out a wonderful album. Don’t we all feel dragged around the universe sometimes? This next band put out an album and played a bunch of shows in the 00’s and just put out a fantastic new album last year.

17.) Really Doesn’t Matter – The New Siberians
18.) Black 17 – The New Siberians
19.) 1965 – The New Siberians
20.) Circle K – The New Siberians

All of those songs are so catchy and rock nicely. What a great band! Speaking of great bands, this next one has been playing staggering shows lately and just put out a new album.

21.) Nothing In This – The Mountain Says No
22.) Statistik – The Mountain Says No
23.) I Know Right – The Mountain Says No
24.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No

Their songs are so intense and rock so hard. Yea Mountain! Let’s close tonight with a set from a band who evolved out of two of my favorite bands and show the evolution.

25.) Bomb – Envy
26.) Very Underground – The Red Telephone
27.) By Design – The Nancy Druids
28.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids

Sean and Ann Mindell were in Envy. Sean joined Matt Hutton in The Red Telephone, then Sean and Ann teamed up with John Franklin to form the Druids. The sound has changed a bit but the beauty in the structure has not. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Songs after: Plague Of Ghosts (live USA) – Fish
Alone In The Night – Andriana Chobot
King Of The Mountain – Kate Bush
Morrigan – Children In Paradise
The Vigilant Ones – The Cush
Almost With You – The Church
What’s In California? – Josh Glass
regular programming.

OK, I’m heading to the bus then heading to Yorktown then going to get a tattoo, or at least see one.

Song before: Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes) – Def Leppard

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. As a music fan I’m happy to leave myself in the capable hands of the many great musicians out there. I almost never want to offer advice, except for this. Please, record your music and release your records.

1.) Release Your Records – SWALE
2.) Always Monica – Chin Ho
3.) Souvenir – The Depth and the Whisper
4.) The River – Kat Wright

That’s the next wonderful song on By My Side, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song.. Whisper played a lovely show at Radio Bean last Sunday. Thanks to Ryan Cohen for recording us and to the band for playing such great versions of those songs and for hanging out and chatting with me. OK, these next two bands will be at The Monkey House on Saturday and I will be out of town on a trip with my mother and brother. Can everyone go in my place?

9.) Time To Save The World – Carraway
10.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
11.) Iron And Metal – The Mountain Says No
12.) The Bad Year – Carraway

That’s going to be a great show with those too bands. OK, last Sunday before The Depth And The Whisper I caught one song from the opening band. The bass player for the band performed earlier as a solo act and gave me a CD to check out. It’s pretty cool. Here’s a song.

13.) Clarity – Hello Tortoise
14.) Totally Submerged – Totally Submerged
15.) Hole In The Sky – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
16.) Laughing Jim – The Edd

The Edd have a new album that was released at 4:20 today. Surf played a great version of that last Friday at Foam Brewers. I finally caught up with Submerged at Radio Bean on Monday and they rocked. Cool song from Tortoise. So hey, is it a holiday today?

18.) Seeds And Stems – The New Siberians
19.) Sun-Dripped Orphan And The Wizard’s Tea Pot – Elephants of Scotland
20.) Strings – Binger

I love the insight of Binger’s lyrics and their music is pretty cool too. Great songs from Elephant, Siberians and the elusive Brother Zag. Here’s a cool brand new song that just came my way.

21.) Break A Leg – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
22.) Poem for Torin/Ethan Is Stoned – Peg Tassey MUSIC
23.) Your Eyes – Forest Gray
24.) I Love The Night – The Contrarian

I want to send Night out to Rob Slater. Lovely song from Forest. Classic song from Peg and great new song from David. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
