From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with a look back at the good old days when you would make mix tapes and give them to friends and lovers.
I was excited to hear that Maryse will be back in town for many shows in February including a residency at Light Club Lamp Shop. I caught Pyramid, Wolfhand, and Hellascope at Nectar’s last Metal Monday and loved all three. The first three will rock Metronome hard tomorrow. OK, let’s keep rocking.

Song before: Cover Me – Bruce Springsteen
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I hope everyone had a nice Halloween and tomorrow is my mother’s birthday so Happy Birthday Mom! Let’s begin with a local musician who just released an album called Other Side Of The Rain.
I just love that song by Aaron. He is talented and wonderful and writes such lovely songs. The Andriana song is inspired by the shortening days and lengthening nights. I want to thank Ben and Robin for getting in touch and letting me know about their new music so I can play it for you. Great stuff. OK, last night I went to Phoenix Books Essex & Burlington and saw performances by Swale and Mark Daly, but the main event was Ray Padgett and Brent Hallenbeck talking about Ray’s new book about cover songs. It’s called Cover Me and it was fascinating to hear stories of why rock bands choose to cover other bands songs. This next set was inspired by that discussion.
Broccoli played in the late ’80’s and did a great rocking version of the classic. Casey Merlin Rae also records as The Contrarian and put out a whole EP of Blue Oyster Cult songs in honor of Sandy Pearlman. Ray mentioned Dizzy as one of the great local cover songs so I had to include that one. Ninja began with a few really cool originals but always played lots of covers to fill out long sets at Nectar’s like that REM song. Bridget play all covers but in their own wonderful way. OK, let’s play the next song on the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. It’s a cover too.
I recently came up with the idea of putting Frequency and Shock back to back so I hope you enjoyed that. The version of Shock was from the Robot Dog Studio studio session they did when they were in town in October. Great song by Death. Nice surf version of the Sabbath song. Ryan Cohen has been releasing the Live At Robot Dog performances and interviews as a podcast. He just released the one from Clever Girls. Here is a song from that session. They played a rocking version of it last Saturday at The Monkey House.
Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo played an amazing show at ArtsRiot last night. That is the title song from his new album. Girls, Sleeping, and Apartment played a great show last week at the Monkey House. That was Apartment 3’s last show. Thanks for the music. Speaking about being thankful for the music, Swale opened the show for Ranaldo with this song.
Lee played a super fun version of that song last night. It’s just a couple of days after Halloween so I had to play a couple of skeleton songs. I caught Uncle a few weeks back and it’s about time I got some of their music on the air. Anne-Marie has such a wonderful voice. So does Amanda Gustafson! OK, let’s play one more Lee song.
22.) Moroccan Mountains – Lee Ranaldo
23.) The Light – Kat Wright
24.) I’ve Been Down – Bob Wagner
25.) Ricky The Rider – The Mountain Says No
OK, it’s time to start rocking hard and what better way to start than with Ricky. Great cover song from the amazing Bob Wagner. I love that Kat song. The Lee set last night was just stunning. OK, crank up the volume to 11.
26.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
27.) Drug Laws – Swale
28.) Mr Reed (live) – Seth Yacovone Band
All of those songs rock so hard! Thanks everyone. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Vedora rocked our town for a couple of years and Caroline is still out there making similar sounding music. Great song from Linda. Cool song from Anders album The Man Who Fell From Earth.
