Song before Changes – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to begin by welcoming Mike Luoma to WBKM. It was fun to chat with him earlier today. He’s helping with the programming and asked me to put together a file with some of the greatest local songs. I put 178 songs into it, but need to add more. Here are four of them.

1.) It’ll Be Okay – Let’s Whisper
2.) The Art Of Giving In – 1881
3.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
4.) In Waves – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association

Sarah’s from Massachusetts but visits us often. I wanted one of her songs to highlight all of the New England bands who come to town a lot. Telephone grew out of the legendary local band Envy. That song is so sweet. 1881 are just amazing. Let’s Whisper always fill my heart with smiles. OK, here’s a treat for us all. Let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for some live music from a wonderful band.

5.) Raising The Dead – Carraway
6.) St Patrick’s Day – Carraway
7.) Kool – Carraway
8.) Time To Save The World – Carraway

I want to thank the band for being so amazing. Thanks to Ryan Cohen for making us sound great. Carraway are playing Saturday at Higher Ground with lovelytheband. OK, this weekend all of Winooski will be taken over by hundreds of bands in a giant festival called Waking Windows. The rest of tonight’s show will be filled with a few of the local bands who will perform. Let’s begin with Kelly Ravin who’s album Engine is the one I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week.

9.) Telescope – Kelly Ravin Music
10.) Hang ‘Em High School – Barbacoa
11.) Pauses – Lowell Thompson Music
12.) Owen – Clever Girls

The girls will rock the Rotary stage in the middle of it all on Friday night. Barbacoa and Lowell will be on the main stage. Kelly will be at McKee’s. These next bands will play Friday night too.

13.) As Glass – Wren Kitz
14.) Adventure Safari – The Mountain Carol
15.) If I Knew – Binger
16.) The Big One – The High Breaks

The Breaks will be at Water Works on Friday. Binger will be at Four Quarters Brewing. Carol will be at Scout & Co and Wren will be at Lucky Cloud. These next two bands will play Friday night at Last Stop Sorts Bar.

17.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
18.) Strawberry Blonde – Dino Bravo VT
19.) Don’t Look Back – ROUGH FRANCIS
20.) The Summer Of Andy – The Cancer Conspiracy

Cancer will be at Lucky Cloud on Saturday and it’s nice to have that classic ’90’s band back in action, now and then. Francis will play the main stage on Saturday. This next band will be at Lucky Cloud on Saturday.

21.) Taung Child – The Dead Shakers
22.) Hands – J Bengoy
23.) Wanderer – Francesca Blanchard
24.) Felon – SWALE
25.) Ships – Anais Mitchell

Anais will be at the Methodist Church on Sunday. Swale will be there on Saturday. Francesca will be at Scout & Co on Saturday. Bengoy and the Shakers will be at Lucky Cloud on Saturday. Well, that’s all the time we have tonight. I could do another hour and not get to all of the local bands who will play Waking Windows. Lots of national bands will be coming to town too so it should be completely amazing. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday March 15. You can stream it from the website or here: WBKM It will go as follows.

Song before Run Run Away – Slade

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Burlington has long had a love affair with the music of Leonard Cohen. Let’s begin with a new song written about the legend.

1.) Leonard – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
2.) Palace Of Tears – Radio Underground
3.) Here In LA – Bardela
4.) Pick Up Your Clothes – The New Siberians

Great song from the Siberians album Black, Blue & White. LA was recorded at Robot Dog Studio in January. Cool new song from Underground. Jeremy is so great. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog for an interview and live performance by Bad Smell.

5.) All Things Over Others – Bad Smell
6.) Casio Funk – Bad Smell
7.) Baroque-n – Bad Smell
8.) Give It Up To The Night – Bad Smell

Thanks so much Jane Boxall Percussion, Raph Worrick, and to Ryan Cohen for making us sound so great. OK, so The Tsunamibots might be turning human then back to robots on their upcoming album. Let’s take a look at their human side.

9.) Complacent – The Brand New Luddites
10.) Garabato Funeral – Mal Maïz
11.) Superstar – Original Cast
12.) Acolytes – The Brand New Luddites

Great stuff from the Luddite Bots. Cool song from Maiz Vargas Sandoval. I like to play Superstar at this time of year. Monday would have been my father’s birthday and that is one of the few pieces of music that we both loved. Here’s a cool new song.

13.) New Light Walking – Adam Wolf
14.) Blue Light Shines – Gabrielle Douglas and The Dwellers
15.) Mirror Mirror – Joe Adler
16.) All Down Tonight – SWALE

Swale will be at The Skinny Pancake Burlington on Saturday. Great songs from Joe and Gabrielle. I’ve only caught Adam once and the band is really good. This next duo are really talented.

17.) Immigrant Too – Soule Monde (Ray Paczkowski & Russ Lawton)
18.) Earth Ain’t Dirt reprise – Mycelium MC
19.) The Feeling Is Strange – Binger
20.) The Art Of Giving In – 1881

1881 write such great pop songs. Nice jams from Binger and the MC. Ray and Russ are amazing. Here’s a cool recent song.

21.) I’ve Come To Love – Carraway
22.) You Can Love If You Want To – Peg Tassey MUSIC
23.) Curve Ball Dreamer – Zola Turn
24.) Clear Wide Wail.

Three of those songs are quite old and still wonderful. I’m sure the Carraway song will hold up over time too. Here’s a song that features Raph and Jane that was mentioned in the interview.

25.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork
26.) Love In The Afternoon – The Thursday Torys
27.) Vincent S Head – Chin Ho
28.) Time To Get Out – Aaron Flinn

Classics from Aaron and Chin. I hope to catch up with the Tory’s sometime soon. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
