Song before It Can Happen – Yes
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Next Wednesday at The Monkey House there will be another Show Up Show to raise money for a good cause. This band will be one of the ones who play.

2.) Avalon – Split Tongue Crow
3.) Crown Jewell – Wren Kitz
4.) Ghost – Kelly Ravin
Kelly and Lowell Thompson will play the show up show with their band the Welterweights. This show will benefit Black Lives Matter. Wren will also play a set, and so will Swale. I tossed in the Crow song since it’s so beautiful. OK, here is the next song on By My Side.
5.) Who’s Your Fool? – Kat Wright
6.) Realization – Madaila
7.) Waiting For The World To End – The Depth and the Whisper
8.) Bird On The Sea – The New Siberians
What a great song from the Siberians. Depth are from NYC and will stop by Radio Bean on Sunday. Have you seen the video for Realization? It’s really fun. Great song from Kat and the band. This next singer is from MA but plays all around New England and visits us in VT on a regular basis.

10.) Anytime (R & B) – jane siberry

Francis is from Scotland but lived in VT for a while and played a series of great shows at Club Metronome around the time he released the Man album. I saw Jane at Hunt’s twice many years ago, at Memorial once with the Indigo Girls, and once at Higher Ground several years ago. Thanks for sponsoring our station HG! Someone should bring Jane back, she is so much fun live. Hmmmm, Sarah. OK, this next band just released an EP called Drive By Fruiting.
13.) Once More, With Apathy – Mr. Doubtfire
14.) Harder – apb
15.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink or Swim
16.) I Choo-Choo-Choose You – Mr Doubtfire.
I had fun seeing those three bands at Jim’s basement last Saturday. Another band called Ransom Smith played also, but I could not find any of their music, so I had to play a second Doubtfire song. It’s new too. There is a long history of punk rock in Burlington and it’s nice to know it’s still happening. For the next song, let’s go back to the beginning.
17.) Weapons Factory – The Wards
18.) No More Sex – Pinhead
19.) Oklahoma Road Rage – Crazyhearse
20.) Mark My Words – Black Rabbit
Rabbit and Crazyhearse could come out and play those songs at any time. Wards and Pinhead rocked us ’80’s style. Speaking of the ’80’s, I’d like to welcome Annmarie back to the WBKM airwaves for a show of ’80’s music that runs from 8-9 on Thursdays before my show. OK, this next band will rock Foam Brewers on Friday.
21.) Sea Chopper – The High Breaks
22.) That’s When I Reach For My Revolver – Ninja Custodian
23.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
24.) Dogs At The Door – Milton Busker
I love it when Milton plays that song. Wail rocked us in the ’90’s and Ninja were great back in the late ’80’s. Breaks always put on a fun show. This next band are playing tonight at SideBar.

10.) Drivin’ All Alone – The Parts
11.) Moving Song – Zola Turn
12.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
Great song from the ’80’s. Zola Rocked us in the ’90’s. Telephone rocked us in the 00’s and the Parts are rocking us now. So, if you like punk head to Jim’s basement on Saturday for these next two bands.
13.) Blank Daze – Mr. Doubtfire
14.) Blue Lights – Sink or Swim
15.) Blue Light Shines – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers
16.) Something I Drew – farm
It was fun chatting with Brent Hallenbeck last night about our local music scene. I was on Rocket Shop on Big Heavy World last night to announce that all of my show write-ups, past and future, will be part of BHW. Brent was a great host and we both liked Farm and The Cush. We were sad that Farm went away but happy about how they morphed into The Mountain Says No.
17.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
18.) Paint It Black – Silver Bridget
19.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE
20.) The Heart Is King – Pinhead
Pinhead helped open Burlington up to the wide variety of music that exists today. Great song from Swale. I want to send lots of love to Eric Olsen who just lost his mother. Our hearts go out to you Eric!!! Great take on the Stones song by Bridget and great rocker from Mountain. This next band was the first to really turn me on to our local music scene, so many years ago.
21.) Happy New Year – Ninja Custodian
22.) Decide – Dave Jarvis Band
23.) The Original Original – Black Rabbit
24.) Round Sum – Cave Bees
The Bees come out to rock us now and then, and have been doing so for years. Rabbit always put on fun shows. Dave rocked us back in the ’90’s and has a new band called Agent 802. I love Ninja. OK, let’s stay in the past for a bit.

26.) Holly Mae – The Snaz
27.) Bridge To Panda Chaos – Zeus Springsteen
28.) Six Inch Knife – Will

Great song from the Rutland band. They morphed out of Will who played around in the 00’s. I can’t wait to see Zeus again and hear what they are recording. Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1Fm will run from 9-11pm this evening and will go as follows:
Song before: Goodbye Yellow Brook Road – Elton John
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. We’re on the downhill slide to the Winter Solstice and the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. Let’s begin with a song from Carraway’s brilliant new album The Bad Year.
1.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
2.) I’ll Get Wise – Anachronist
3.) The Worst Part – Bethany Conner Music
4.) Windy Pines – Brett Hughes and Kat Wright
Brett has been a huge asset to the local music scene for many years and he is finally going to make is own first album. I think the whole town is celebrating, and we haven’t even heard it yet. Bethany is a woman wise beyond her years. Anachronist just released a beautiful new album called Lost In The Corners. I’m just getting to know it and I really like it. The same is true for Carraway. OK. I was off last week and hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving. On the last show I finished playing the last song from the Invisible Homes album Song For My Double. It’s time to play a new album, song after song, week after week, until it’s done. This artist just released this album and he is a legend in this town. The album is Shovel Down by Seth Yacovone.
5.) Playing Patterns – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
7.) Spy Song – Pinhead
8.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No
I thought I’d ease my way into the Christmas music season with that rocker from Mountain. Classic from Pinhead. Great song from David and the band. I’m so psyched to play the new Seth album over the next nine weeks. Last Saturday I went to The Monkey House and saw these next three bands.
9.) The Anchor – Carraway
10.) Another Day Closer To Nothing – Grand
11.) Ex-Files – Better Things
12.) Something I Drew – farm
I remember seeing Farm once, late in their career, possibly for the last time at 242 Main. I miss them but two of the guys are in Mountain Says No now and that is cool. Carraway, Grand and Better Things were all brilliant last Saturday at the Monkey. All of those songs were played. On Saturday it’s the last day of operation for 242 Main. It’s been an iconic music venue for as long as I can remember. It will be missed and hopefully it will reemerge soon. There is a party on Saturday to celebrate it and to celebrate music super fan Gary Lane’s 50th birthday. He has been a great supporter of music for many years. Here are some of the bands playing the last 242 Main show this Saturday.
13.) Year Of The Snake – Tyler Daniel Bean
14.) Black Oil – Doom Service
15.) Green Peaks Dark Valleys – Get A Grip
16.) Death Is Just A Door – Vultures of Cult
17.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS
All those bands, and more, are going to rock 242 one more time on Saturday. It should be a great night. Better Things are playing that show too. I remember one day, a long time ago, when I had some free time and saw on Swale’s website they had a show in the afternoon at 242/ I went and found out it was a rock camp thing. They let me in anyway and I sat quietly as the band played a song then talked to the kids about it and the music business then played another and did that for a while. So many great memories.
18.) Waterlanding – SWALE
19.) I’ve Come To Love – Carraway
20.) The Light – Kat Wright
21.) Moving Song – Zola Turn
I loved Zola so much. Great new song from Kat and the band. Another great new Carraway song. Hmmm, Swale. I know a lot of us are on edge about the election. It feels like we might be heading into the lions den. Fortunately, I know a lion tamer.
22.) Lion Tamer – Carraway
23.) Spark – Anachronist
24.) Kentucky – Cricket Blue
25.) Your Eyes – Forest Gray
Great song from Forest. Cricket were great recently at Light Club Lamp Shop and are at the Skinny Pancake tonight. Great new songs form two great new albums. This next band played a beautiful show at the Daily Planet last night.
26.) She’s Leaving Home – Silver Bridget
27.) Julius Caesar – The New Siberians
28.) The Bad Year – Carraway
Brilliant new epic from Carraway. Great song from the Siberians. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song before: First We Take Manhattan (live) – Leonard Cohen
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want thank Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. They’ve got a huge show with Kat Wright releasing her new album By My Side tomorrow. I want to begin tonight with the many reports of bullying and swastika painting and acts of intimidation that have been happening since the election. We need to investigate every incident and call people out on their mean language and horrible actions. It’s time to look at ourselves as a country and encourage our good nature and step past the darker elements in our soul. It’s time to acknowledge that we’ve got problems.
1.) You’ve Got Problems – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
2.) Bird On The Sea – The New Siberians
3.) Are We Mad? – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
4.) Children Of The Stars – Madaila
We are going to have to remember that we are all in this together and do our part to add positive actions to our community. After all, we all live under the same stars. David Rosane has written some great post election analysis of what’s going on and what can be. He also writes great songs. The Siberians sing about love saving us and we will need to keep that in mind. Great new song from Kat and the band. The story of how that came together is pretty great. OK, here comes the last song from Song For My Double. I’ll be off next week for Thanksgiving and in December I will start a new album to play all the way through, song after song, week after week, until it is done.
5.) No One – Invisible Homes
6.) Shy Spiders – Villanelles
7.) 2000 – The Pants
8.) Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye (live) – Leonard Cohen
A lot of local musicians have been saddened by the death of Leonard. He will be sorely missed but the staggering body of work that he left us can come alive every time someone plays one of his songs or reads one of his poems. There was a beautiful gathering of local artists on Monday at Light Club Lamp Shop and that can happen whenever we want to make it happen again. Kirk Flanagan did a great version of Hey at that show, and he also played one Leon Russel song. Pants were a classic band from Burlington’s ’90’s. Spiders is a modern classic. Great song, and album, from Homes. Here’s another Burlington classic.
9.) You Don’t Like Me, Do Ya – Pinhead
10.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
11.) Destiny Waits – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds
12.) New Atlantis – Aaron Flinn
Great song by Aaron. He played a couple of Cohen songs on Monday. Bud Johnson and Budd are so kind and great performers. Zoot used to rock out town in the ’80’s and Pinhead played back then too. Those songs have been around for a while but this next one is brand new.
13.) Waiting – Mr. Doubtfire
14.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker
15.) Lean In – When Particles Collide
16.) Blue Light Shine – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers
We will all have to shine our loving lights a lot in the next four years. Particles are out and about fighting sexism and rocking our world. Hopefully, Milton’s song will not be as on the mark as it seems like it might be. Great new song from Doubtfire. This next band are at The Monkey House tomorrow. Let’s take a walk around town with Diane Sullivan and Becky.
17.) Yayo – Dirty Blondes
18.) Hold Me Tight – The Decentz
19.) Diamond Days – The Lavas
20.) Undecided – Rocketsled
Rocketsled will get the band back together next January. I loved that one Lavas album. The Decentz played back in the early ’80’s. OK, let’s keep rocking.
21.) Comm To Space – ROUGH FRANCIS
22.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica
23.) That’s When I Reach For My Revolver – Ninja Custodian
24.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
Phil was at the Cohen show too. I love that song by him and the band. Ninja played in the late ’80’s and early ’90’s and always rocked the house with that one. I love that Vetica song. Such a classic from Francis. Here’s another classic from the ’90’s.
25.) Poem For Torin (Ethan’s Stoned) – Peg Tassey MUSIC
26.) Great Escape – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
27.) My Hero, The Enemy – Gregory Douglass
Great song from Gregory. Jeremy Gilchrist played at the Cohen show and Peg Tassey was there too, but just to listen. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. I’m off next week but will be back to do it again soon.

Epic/Pointless Endeavors – John Wesley
Strontium Burning – TILT
Alone – Children in Paradise

Song before: Where Is My Mind? – The Pixies
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Thanks Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. 1.) Sunflower Street – Dave Jarvis Band
2.) What’s The Deal With The Triangle? – James Kochalka Superstar
3.) Chuck Berry – Dino Bravo VT
4.) The Next Instead – SWALE
On Monday Kochalka, Dino, Swale and Led Loco played a show in honor of Mike McGonegal. It was a great send off and most of those songs were played. He will be missed. OK, here is the next song on the album I’m playing all the way through week after week. The album is called Song For My Double.
5.) Aspiration – Invisible Homes
6.) The Storm Has Been Weathered – 1881
7.) Children Of The Stars – Madaila
8.) Johnny – Arc Iris

All four of those are classic Burlington songs. This next one is too and is unfortunately still all too appropriate.
21.) Boys Club – Peg Tassey MUSIC
22.) Kill Your Idols – Slush
23.) Blood Boy – Barbacoa
24.) Sunday – Envy
Those are all classics too. Barbacoa will play with Swale tomorrow at ArtsRiot for a live recording, so that is one of the many can’t miss shows tomorrow, and Saturday is just as packed. OK, let’s keep rocking.
25.) Knight Ov Swords – The Contrarian
26.) Nowhere Feels Like Home – Fire The Cannons
27.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians

For tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1 FM WBKM I took the many styles of music on the new album by The New Siberians and matched them up in sets from new and old Burlington bands. It went as follows:
Lined up before:
The Great Forgetter – The New Siberians
Calendar Girl – Stars
Sparks – The Color Exchange
Delirious – The Church Band
Monocacy – Slingshot Dakota
Song before: Rebel Girl – Bikini Kill
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It hit 96 degrees today and it’s a scorching night in the Queen City. Music is all around. Last night I got to see Swale play a great set in a classic Vermont setting. They played a bunch of great songs at Shelburne Farms including this one. They just made a devastatingly beautiful and horrible video for this cover song. This is a song to help remind us that the color of your skin and the shape of your face and body mean nothing. You are what you say and what you do and what you tolerate and what you don’t.
1.) Black Boys On Mopeds – SWALE
2.) If Time Was A River – Anna Pardenik
3.) Letter From The 21st – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
4.) Bird On The Sea – The New Siberians
What a great new song from the Siberians. I’ve got a couple more songs from it lined up later. Jeremy Gilchrist is playing Radio Bean tomorrow at 7 so I may catch a song or two at the end of his set if I’m out of work on time. Anna is playing at Light Club Lamp Shop tomorrow too which is cool. Swale were amazing and played an amazing version of that song yesterday. As always, I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring the station. They have Upmhrey’s McGee in town tonight and Strangefolk in Jay this weekend. The Girls Rock VT August Showcase is happening Saturday if you want a glimpse of the future rock scene. OK, here is he next song from Giant Places.
5.) Take Your Gold Away – Lendway
6.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker
7.) New Atlantis – Aaron Flinn
8.) Make It Work – The New Siberians
Another great new song from Siberians new album Black, Blue and White. Aaron writes and sings such great songs. I love the new Milton album and that song has some intense energy. Hmmm, Lendway. It’s hot and there is no breeze and it’s summer in Vermont. Let’s celebrate it.
9.) Summertime – Peg Tassey MUSIC
10.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork
11.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila
12.) Breaking Camp – The New Siberians
Yup, the Siberians have a dancey pop song on the new album too. Such a fun song from Madaila who are going to take over downtown for a day sometime soon. It is summer and beach weather!!!! Even at night!! OK, let’s go back to the late ;80;s or early ’90’s for a classic song about a girl.
13.) Mary – Plan B
14.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants of Scotland
15.) Summer Of Andy – The Cancer Conspiracy
16.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians
Yup, the Siberians have a psychedelic/prog rock song on the new album. Great instrumental from the ’90’s prog rock band. That is a song from Elephants new album. I love Plan B. OK, let’s head to the indie zone.
17.) Life Of The Party – My first Days On Junk
18.) Hindsight 20/20 – Better Things
19.) Screwball – Screaming Broccoli
20.) Tenderness – The New Siberians
That one almost has a bit of a Ninja vibe. The New Siberians are made of Simon Plumpton on drums, who also plays with Invisible Homes, Ted Pappadopoulos on bass and vocals and assorted instruments, and Brendan Devitt on guitar and vocals. There are so many good songs on this new album of theirs. Broccoli played in the late ’80’s and early ’90’s and rocked hard. Better are about to release a new album and 20/20 will be one of the songs. Junk are a band with Urian Hackney and played Waking Windows last spring. OK, let’s play another song from that late ’80’s early ’90’s period.
21.) New Age Woman – Pinhead
22.) MSP2 – ROUGH FRANCIS
23.) Silver And Gold – Waylon Speed!
24.) Black, Blue And White – The New Siberians
That one from the Siberians has more of a classic rock sound so I thought it would sound good with the Speed song. Francis should have a new album out soon and I can’t wait. Great rocker from Pinhead. I got to see Caroline Marie play songs from her upcoming solo album last week, so let’s play one from her last album.
25.) The Feeling – Vedora
26.) Sweet Dreams – Bethany Conner Music
27.) Black 17 – The New Siberians

Song before: New Americana – Halsey
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I have been so inspired by Bernie’s valiant run for President. No matter what happens next, he has gotten his message out to the people in staggering ways. He has inspired people in ways that we will not understand for years, but we do have some music that has been inspired by his highest ideals. Let’s begin tonight with some of those.
1.) Bernie Is A Punk – BERN UNIT
2.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
3.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vt Musicians

I really enjoyed the Connor show with the Felice Brothers at Higher Ground last Tuesday and wanted to play some of their music. Great song by Kat and the band. On Monday I got to see a cool band called Silver Bridget. I don’t have any of their music to play but they did a great version of this next song. This next song is a cover of a classic as performed by a band who will play the top of the block on Church St on Friday Night.
10.) Starman – Madaila
11.) See Me On My Way – Superhuman Happiness
12.) Rise – Barika
13.) ComeTooLate – Paper Castles

15.) Chopped And Channeled – Barbacoa
16.) The Big One – The High Breaks
