Song before: On The Air – Peter Gabriel
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with one of my favorite things. I hope it’s one of yours too.
Lovely song from a lovely band. I just got Jesse’s album and it’s pretty cool. That’s the title song. Great songs about love from Smittens and Hana. More on that soon. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for another interview and live performance.
5.) Maybe There’s A War – Danny & The Parts
6.) Driftin’ – Danny & The Parts
7.) Why You Puttin’ Down That Phone – Danny & The Parts
8.) My Hands – Danny & The Parts
I want to thank Danny LeFrancois, Jackie Buttolph, Eric and Brennan for that beautiful show. Thanks to Ryan Cohen for hosting and making us sound great. Thanks to Phoebe Zorn and Chrusty Barnacles for the film work. There’s a video for Driftin’ on Youtube. OK, a bunch of local artists just made an album to support the neonatal intensive care unit at the UVM Children’s Hospital. They call the album Big Tiny Love and here are a few songs.
Such a nice collection of music and it’s for a great cause. Just Google Big Tiny Love and you can find out more about it. OK, here is the next song on the Grim Work album.
It’s staying darker longer so I thought playing a song from Dark and Getting Darker would be appropriate. Thanks for the great song RU. I love that epic from Thompson. I caught Humble at The Double E last week and they played a great version of Breeze. Great song form Milton and the band. When it’s dark, there is still hope.
Great song from Suns new album Caldera. Cool songs from Mountain and Siberians. Druids will be at Light Club Lamp Shop tomorrow. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with an artist who used to play around all the time then moved west. He will be back for a show Sunday at Light Club.
Rue play fun dance songs with tons of drama and over the top stage shows. They are playing at the Off Center for the Dramatic Arts tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. That’s the title song to the new Arc album. They are from Rhode Island but play town often enough that’s it’s not cheating much to play them on my show. That’s the title song from Adam’s upcoming album. More details soon. Great song form Gregory. OK, this next artist will be at Nectar’s on Monday.
It’s closing in on Halloween, so I thought I’d get into the mood with that one. The Doctor will be at Radio Bean on Friday. Aaron will be at The Double E on Friday and Mr Stewart will play there on Saturday, though he will be in the larger T-Rex theater. Great song from Francesca. This next artist will be at 14th Star Brewery on Tuesday.
Anders will be at Light Club on Saturday. He always puts on amazing shows. Another cool new song from Underground. That’s the last song on David’s Book Of Zoo album. If you had not noticed, I just played the whole album, one song a week, over the last couple of months. Great song from Troy. OK, let’s continue with album that I’m formally playing all the way through. It’s called MSP3 Counter Attack and is completely amazing.
Great song from the Middlebury band. Great rocker from the Cush. Lavas grew out of Queen Tangerine who grew out of Zola Turn. Such a great song. Nice rocker from Francis. OK, let’s keep rocking.
I love that song from the Shakers. Sweet version of the classic by Bridget. Nice saw from Johnnie Day Durand on the Silver and Joe songs. I want to send Brothers out to my brother Ken and all of my other brothers and sisters in our community. Carraway are rocking the The Monkey House right now. Great song from Casey. OK, Arc Iris just put out a new album, but a couple of months ago they put out an album of their reworkings of songs from Joni Mitchell’s Blue album. Here is one of those songs.
22.) California – Arc Iris
23.) Magenta Man – Rue M
24.) If You Can See – Arc Iris
25.) Exit Strategy – Rue M.
Since Rue are playing three shows, I had to play three of their songs. See is from the new Icon Of Ego album and California is from the Foggy Lullaby album. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song before: It Was A Very Good Year – Frank Sinatra
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last night I went to Radio Bean and saw a wonderful performance by this band.
We’ll skip the Parts for a moment. That’s the next song on the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song. Great work making that Sabbath song sound like Surf rock. Cool song form Submerged who play all over Vermont all the time. The Druids played a beautiful version of that song last night. So, last Saturday was Radio Bean’s 17th birthday party and they did the usual thing where 80 or 90 bands played from 8am to 2am with 15 minute sets. The Parts kicked off the show. Most of the rest of the show is made of a few of the many bands who played.
Silver Bridget opened their set with a little bit of (When I Was Just Seventeen) It Was A Very Good Year then dropped it into Paint It Black. It was great. I missed Cricket and Milton but assume their sets were amazing. Ivamae was great and played a couple of new songs. This next band gave us a choice of this song or one that I did not know. They played the latter so I will play this song that they did not.
I missed Eames and the two Ryans when I was in the other room seeing other bands but did catch the full Gators set. I just barely missed this next artist.
Joe and the Rangers put on a brilliant set. I want to send that out to my brother Ken and all of my brothers and sisters, ie you. Great songs from Binger, Kat, and Francesca. So, when Swale played they did mostly covers and opened with Amanda Gustafson singing the heck out of this song.
21.) Rebel Girl – Bikini Kill
22.) Popular Crowd – SWALE
23.) Trans Am – Barbacoa
24.) Juliet – Cave Bees
The Bees played a powerhouse version of that song. The tiny amount of Barbacoa that I caught was brilliant. If you listen to Popular and imagine that band singing Rebel you will have an idea of how Swale’s set started. This next band played an amazing version of this one.
25.) Destroying Everything They See – Blue Button
26.) Local Lore – Savage Hen
27.) Song About The Ocean – Dino Bravo VT
28.) Purple Rain – Prince
On Saturday WBKM is turning 10 years old and celebrating at Nectar’s. Seth Yacovone will be there, Aaron Flinn will be there, The Full Cleveland will be there and a bunch of local artists will play Prince songs and be lead by Craig Mitchell. I hope you can stop by. Dino finished off the Bean birthday party. Hen played in the afternoon and Button were as amazing as always. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Last week was a bit crazy in the political world but this week has seem a bit more calmness. All around people are being wonderful and building networks of love and planting seeds to help the future blossom. Let’s begin with a song about that.
Great song from Maryse who used to play in town all the time but still stops by to enchant us. Ivamae’s songs are so beautiful. I have to go see her again soon. I wanted to go back to Clare’s ep after playing a song a couple of weeks ago. What a great song. I’ve really got to get to know That Virginia. Thanks Jennifer Grossi for sending me her music. OK, let’s head on over to Robot Dog Studio for another edition of WBKM Live At Robot Dog. Tonight I interview David Rosane & The Zookeepers and they play four cool songs.
5.) Grandma – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
6.) Sugar And Cream – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
7.) Hope In The Dark – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
8.) What The Fuck Went Wrong – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
Thanks so much Jennifer, Don Sinclair, David Rosane for playing and thanks Ryan Cohen for the production and recording and to Mary Wolcott for being part of the scene. OK, let’s play the next song on Loose Tooth which is the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week.
Particles are a great rock band and will be at The Monkey House next Wednesday. Milton is a great songwriter and will be at Light Club Lamp Shop next Tuesday. It was nice to see gneiss for the end of their show at Red Square last night. I love Clever Girls. This next band will be at the Monkey on Wednesday with Particles.
Classic song from Pinhead who helped shape the wide dynamic of music that we now have in town. Dys will get back together for a show soon. Zeus will rock Montpelier this Saturday. Great song from Dino. Last Monday I went to Nectar’s and saw these next three bands.
17.) Good Times – Grand
18.) We Govern The Breeze – Humble Hero
19.) I Choo-Choo-Choose You – Mr. Doubtfire
20.) Another Day Closer To Nothing – Grand
I had to play two Grand songs because they are so short and so great. Great song from Doubt. It was great to get to know Hero and they rocked that song hard Monday night. OK, let’s keep rocking.
Doom always put on great rocking shows. They will be at Finnegan’s on Saturday. Comrade are from NY and just put out a really intense album. Hen are playing Friday at 11:30 at Radio Bean I will likely miss the show since I have to work early in the morning and be responsible but have a feeling I will catch up with them soon. Grease are at Jim’s basement tonight. I saw them once and liked them and will catch up with them again. OK, let’s keep rocking.
I miss Vedora but they put on some rocking shows and left us with some great music. Sunday is the last episode of this season’s Game Of Thrones so I thought I should get the Mountain song on now. It was cool that the California rockers who make up BERN rearranged the Ramones song to be about Bernie. Hmm Swale. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a beautiful week of warm and hot sunny days so let’s head to the beach.
It’s been so nice to have so many lovely days lately. Gneiss are at Red Square tonight. There has been lots of blue sky lately and Rabbit sing such a cool song about it. They played a great show last Friday at The Monkey House. I remember seeing Blotto a couple of times at Hunts a long time ago. Great song from the Breaks. Now that Phil has taken the Affiliates joke to Chicago, it’s time for us to embrace the Ray Fork joke. OK, let’s play the next song on Camera.
6.) Shortcuts – 1881
7.) Miranda – Ninja Custodian
8.) Voodoo Camaro – Wide Wail
9.) Windows down – Lendway
It’s the perfect time to drive around with the windows down, perhaps in a magical camero. Classic song from Ninja. I’m working my way through the set of EP’s from 1881 called Lights, Camera, and Action song by song, week by week. OK, last Saturday I joined the Friends of Jim’s Basement and saw these next four bands.
I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at WBKM and for bringing Mr Wright to the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts tomorrow, and for all of the other great music they bring to our community all the time. Great song from the New Jersey band with such a great name. Flintstone rocked hard in Jim’s basement last week. Greaseface also put on a brilliant show that night. Admiral have stripped down to more of a acoustic band and were cool last Saturday too. Ellen closed that show nicely. OK, let’s play another Burlington classic.
15.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
16.) Fly On The Wall – Zola Turn
17.) Heartbreak Baby – Villanelles
18.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica
Great song from Vetica. Heartbreak rocks hard. Same for Zola. Such a fun song from Zoot. OK, let’s go out for a ride.
Such a great song from David. It’s sad to see Phil Yates move to Chicago but at least he and the band played a blistering show at the Monkey House last Friday. I’m sure we will see him again. Joe’s been playing around lately in his new band a.m. rejoice which I seem to keep missing. It’s hard to miss Submerged since they play all around Vermont all the time. OK, let’s keep up the theme with a song about the ocean.
23.) Song About The Ocean – Dino Bravo VT
24.) Sober – Vedora
25.) In The Rain – Plan B
Plan are a classic Burlington band from the ’80’s. I love how huge that song is. I always loved it when Vedora played Sober and Matt went way off on guitar. Hmmm, song about the ocean. Hmmmm. OK, there’s not much time left so let’s keep rocking.
Great rocker from Seth Yacovone and the guys. Classic song from Farm who played in the 2000’s. Great rocker from Anders. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
Note: This was the first of my local radio shows to air on 107.1FM as well as the usual streaming online at WBKM.ORG

I had a fun time doing my local music radio show last night on 107.1FM and on the internet at WBKM.ORG. It’s just amazing how much great music we have in this town.
Song before: On The Air – Peter Gabriel
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last night I got a chance to go to WRUV and hang out while the Nancy Druids played live in the studio on their local music show Exposure. The Druids don’t have anything recorded yet, so let’s begin tonight with a song from Sean’s former band, and that will give you a hint of what they sound like.
1.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
2.) Paranoid – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
3.) The Next Instead – Swale
I love the sweep of the Swale song. They will play a fun show next week, but more on that later. The High Breaks play fun and intense surf rock, and recently rearranged several Black Sabbath songs into surf versions. They released them all for free on Bandcamp so I had to play one of the songs. Great song from Telephone. OK, it’s time for the next song on the Bernie Sanders EP that I am working my way through, song after song, week after week until I’ve played it all.
4.) Where Have All The Flowers Gone – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont artists
5.) Forsythia – Cricket Blue
6.) Dreaming Too Much – Alpenglow
7.) Break – Slingshot Dakota
That is the title song from Slingshot’s brand new album. They are from PA but come to town to play on a regular basis. They will be at the Monkey House May 10th, Another great new song from Alpenglow’s new album Callisto. Cricket have shows coming up in March and April all around New England. I think they have new music coming soon too. So, a week from Saturday, there is a show at Higher Ground to show a movie that was recently made about ’90’s rock band The Pants. They will show the movie, ‘High Water Mark, The Rise And Fall Of The Pants” then Swale will be the house band and lots of local musicians will come up to play Pants songs. Here’s a few that will join in.
8.) High Water Mark – The Pants
9.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
10.) Satellite – Guster
11.) Hit – Blue Button
Jason Cooley and Eric Olsen from BB will be at the show. Ryan Miller from Guster will be at the show. Amanda Gustafson from Wide Wail will be at the show, and Tom Lawson from the Pants will be at the show. I’m sure lots of others will be there as well. OK, the Surf Sabbath song was so fun, let’s play another.
12.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
13.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink Or Swim
14.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death
I was watching Vinyl last week and it was so cool when Politicians played. I thought it would be fun to pull it out this week. Great song from local rockers Swim. The Surf versions of Sabbath songs are so fun. Here’s a song I’ve always enjoyed.
15.) 1965 – The New Siberians
16.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
17.) Finder – Madelines
18.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No
Great song from Mountain. Finder is a classic from the ’90’s. Aaron is such a great guitar player and songwriter. The Siberians song just rocks. OK, let’s play another new Slingshot song.
19.) Monocacy – Slingshot Dakota
20.) The Call – Swillbillie
21.) Hold Me Tight – The Decentz
Tight always gets me dancing around the studio. I hope you had fun with it too. Great strong song from Swillbillie. I love everything about that Slingshot song. This next song is a new one that has been getting me going lately.
22.) If I Knew – Binger
23.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
24.) This Land Is Your Land – VT artists.
Such a lovely version of that song from some of the area’s finest musicians. I love the lyric in the Bern song. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a cold and snowy night in Burlington and really fine flakes of snow are being blown around like crazy. Sometimes I think about the air that is all around us but is invisible. We can’t see it or feel it, unless it’s really warm or cold, but it’s the fuel that we burn to live. Thinking of air reminds me of the spiritual nature we have between our selves and our bodies. Sometimes we can see air when water solidifies in it and forms clouds. This is Clouds by Anachronist on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
Air is such a vital component to our lives, when we get a setback we can describe it as having the air taken out of us. Nice cover of the Pink Floyd song by Ninja. Air can be gentle or can be violent like the end of the Anachronist song and the Crazyhears song. Crazy are playing The Monkey House tomorrow, which is a day with way too much music! Let’s keep the theme going, and play the next song on Many Things & Many Scenes.
5.) Cloudy Mind – Joe Adler
100th Sounds Of Burlington show promo – James Lockridge
6.) Wing To Me – Alice Austin
7.) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle
I love the huge sweep of that song. Air, it’s completely insubstantial but birds and airplanes can still use it to fly. Great song by Joe, who is playing with The Wee Folkestra tomorrow at Radio Bean. Tomorrow at Higher GroundAnd The Kids release their new album Turn To Each Other. I have a ticket and can’t wait. Here’s a song from the album that came out Tuesday.
Sistas are from the Bay area in California but opened the show for Death and Rough Francis at the Flynn Theatre last Friday. That song really highlights the killer lead guitar they had working. Great new song from Mountain. That’s one of the songs that if you listen to a couple of times, it will get stuck in your head. Thanks for sending that to me this morning Ben Maddox! Tomorrow at Higher Ground it’s And The Kids and Alpenglow. I’m so psyched. Here is a song from their last EP Chapel.
11.) Eliza – Alpenglow
12.) The Way It Is – Maryse Smith
13.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
That song is so catchy I had to play it again. I should check out the rest of the album. Great title song from Maryse’s about to be released new album. Let’s go back to the air theme.
14.) Breathe – Barika
15.) Windy Pines – Kat Wright and Brett Hughes
16.) This Is Our Good Night – Aya Inoue
17.) Armadillo – Swale
Swale were great Saturday night at Radio Bean playing covers and letting people form the audience sing with them. We had worked out a Marillion song for them to play and for me to sing, and now I have twice as much admiration for anyone who gets up and plays. Aya will play with Joe at the Bean tomorrow with Wee Folk. She is such a great singer and has well structured songs. Kat and Brett are both local treasures. This next guy is too, and he’s playing tomorrow at Juniper at Hotel Vermont.
I haven’t heard much from Rutland rockers Split Tongue Crow lately, but love that song from their first album. Great new ATK song. All of these next songs got played at the Flynn last Friday. This set is dedicated to my brother Ken.
It was a great show at the Flynn and Death closed with that one. Francis and Sistas were magnificent at the show too. OK, time for a couple more songs. Here is another new ATK song.
24.) All Day All Night – And The Kids
25.) Windows Down – Lendway
Ending where we began, driving around feeling the wind on your face. OK, maybe not at this time of year, but soon. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song after: Favorite Stranger (1995 Yin version) – Fish
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I’m going to play a ton of new music tonight, but let’s start with a couple of Burlington classics. This is Zoot Wilson on Wbkm, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
1.) Killer Bee Bop – Zoot Wilson 2.) Every Time I Hear That Mellow Saxophone – Big Joe Burrell and the Unknown Blues Band 3.) My Atom Girl – The Dirtminers 4.) Three Cheers – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
Happy birthday to a great guy, a great singer/songwriter,guitar player, a great father, husband and teacher. Three Cheers to Phil Yates on his birthday. The Dirthminers always put on fun shows and played geopolitical songs about having a crush on the girl in your class, you know, stuff like that. Raph Worrick was a driving force in the band and he is one of Phil’s affiliates. This next song is from the brand new (released two days ago) album featuring many of Burlington’s greats. It’s also the name of a show on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm on WBKM.ORG.
Aaron is one of Vermont’s true talents. I have not caught up with him recently, but hope to soon. Maryse is playing the Cambridge Music Festival this Saturday with Swale and others. Go see her if you can. You will be better off for it. Great new album from Joe Adler. He will play Saturday night with the Rangers at Nectar’s. This next band just released a very nice and happy video.
8.) Smile – Dwight and Nichole 9.) In Comes The Tide – PossumHaw 10.( Under Bright Stars – Alice Austin
I’m really beginning to love the riff in Stars and can’t wait to hear what she comes up with next. I love that song by PossumHaw. I ran into Hana Zara at Radio Bean on Tuesday when Joe Adler and Samara Lark Brown played, We agreed that she owed me a physical copy of her first CD. I ran into her while walking downtown on Wednesday and she gave me a copy. Here is one of the many great songs from that album.
11.) Nathaniel – Hana Zara 12.) Lights Of Montreal – Lobot 13.) Sunny Side Of The Couch – The Leston’s 14.) 88 – Wave Of The Future
Great new song from Wave. That EP came out a couple of weeks ago. I’m heading to Manhattan Pizza to see them after this show. Dino Bravo are opening, but I will be too late to catch them. Matthew Stephen Perry played with the Leston’s and Chris Farnsworth played with Lobot, so if you listen to those two songs you will get a hint of what Bravo sound like. Friday and Saturday the South End of Burlington will be filled with art and music. Wave are playing tomorrow at Speaking Volumes on Pine st, and this next band are playing Saturday on King Street, as part of the South End Art Hop.
15.) Eighty Nine – Black Rabbit 16.) Dreams Elope – Joe Adler and the Rangers Of Danger 17.) High Water Mark – The Pants
Classic Burlington rock from the nineties. Another great new song from Joe’s album Many Things & Many Scenes. I hope I can make it to Rabbit on Saturday. The college kids are back and September 1st was a huge moving day in Burlington. This is the next song from Ninja Jane.
And The Kids will play at the Art Hop on Flynn ave on Friday and will play at Nectar’s with Joe on Saturday. Yea! Great new song from Better. I ran into Michael Clifford on Wednesday. He wanted my Hana Zara CD but I would not give it to him. To make it up to him, a bit, here is a song from one of his bands.
I love the John Whyte lyric asking if we can win the human race, and like the lyrical tie in with Lendway. Of course we can win the human race. Act with joy and promote fun for all. We’ll all win that way. OK, here’s more Joe.
23.) Many A Girl (Back Of A Sail) – Joe Adler and the Rangers Of Danger 24.) Ain’t No Telling – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band 25.) Many A Girl (Back Of A Sail) reprise – Joe Adler and the Rangers Of Danger
Joe’s band and Kat’s band are pretty much the same, so I thought I’d mix them together. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
I just got back from local music radio show 52 on internet only WBKM.ORG. Linda Bassick came into the studio and played a couple of songs live. After that I played some loud songs.
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. There is a ton of music happening this weekend. This next guy is playing at the BCA center on Church Street pretty much now. This is The Prize by Ryan Power on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
1.) The Prize – Ryan Power
2.) Carry That Oar – Pours
3.) Joyless – Swale
Swale are playing at Juniper tomorrow and playing a “secret show” on Saturday. They have a really cool video for this show. Pours are a new duo with an album coming out in May and a gig coming up In April at Signal Kitchen. Up next, let’s chat with Linda Bassick. We chatted about her band Mellow Yellow playing a cruise soon with the Moody Blues.
4.) Big Yellow Taxi – Linda Bassick live in studio
That was fun. While Linda tunes, here is a studio version of one of her songs.
5.) One From Two – Linda Bassick
OK, here’s Linda live again
6.) Brand New Key – Linda Bassick live in the studio
That was fun. One other thing you do is work for Girls Rock Vermont. We chatted about how important it is for girls to go rock if they want to. If you know any girl who wants to learn to rock, contact Linda. OK, time to change things around. Larry Fast, Jerry Marotta, and others are playing Peter Gabriel songs tonight at Higher Ground. If I wasn’t here, that’s where I’d be.
7.) Intruder (live) – Peter Gabriel
8.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
9.) Home Invasion – ROUGH FRANCIS
I’ve been playing Maximum Soul Power all the way through but feel like technical difficulties the last two weeks have made it hard to hear, so I’m going to play the last three. Before that was Casey Hades Rae as the Contrarian. Rough Francis are releasing the album Tuesday March 11 and the album release party is tomorrow.
10.) Righteous – Rough Francis
11.) The Mountain Says No – The Mountain Says No
12.) Mark My Words – Black Rabbit
13.) Comm To Space – Rough Francis.
Mountain and Rabbit are playing tomorrow at Manhattan Pizza and Pub and I have to find a way to be in 4 places at once since Linda’s band Mellow Yellow are playing Radio Bean at the same time. Clone me please!! I hope your town has this much great music and hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
