I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. It’s the day before Halloween so I played lots of scary songs and let Mr E. Ghoul speak about energy, spirits, mortality and what lies beyond.

Songs before:Please Mr Gravedigger – David Bowie (Official)
End Of the World – Gary Moore with Jack Bruce on bass and vocals

intro

Good evening, it is I, Mr E. Ghoul, here to play the substance that you quaintly call music for you this evening. The one you refer to as Tim has again this year lent me his body so that I may incarnate for two of your earthly hours. I have scary songs lined up to challenge your perceptions of what is in your reality and what is the reality beyond. Let’s begin with a ride on the crazy hearse. This is Barbacoa on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Crazy Hearse – Barbacoa
2.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
3.) Demons – Waylon Speed
4.) Monsters – Cold Sweat
5.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit

That song was about the Black Cat Cafe, a place on Bank Street in Burlington, that burned in the 1970’s. People transferred from your mortal world to the spiritual one in the blast. Last week Tim played the last song on the Row EP from Anachronist. He will now play Lipstick and Dynamite all the way through, song by song, week after week, Black Cat was the first song. Nice tale of all the monsters in the world from the Syracuse band. Scary supernatural songs from Waylon and Crazyhearse. People died in the Black Cat fire but that is part of your mortal cycle. More cats will be born.

6.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids
7.) Nosferatu – The Lestons
8.) Vampyre – David L. Jarvis

Scary song from Dave and a nice homage to one of the first times you learned dance energy and to move pictures and made something that can shift your emotions, to this day. I hope you weren’t too scared of the Kids tale of monsters in the closet. Let us now look west and take a trip through the graveyard.

9.) Graveyard Before Dark – Alice Austin
10.) Our Lady Of The Underground – Anais Mitchell
11.) Death – Ccccome!
12.) Dogs At The Door – Milton Busker

Such a scary tale of imminent doom from the mortal you call Milton. It is only your understanding of yourself as a part of your body that you fear the dogs and death. Despite the scary title, death is just the transformation from this realm to the next, and it contains beautiful irony in that the author is so full of life. That was a nice tale of digging into your subconscious through the power of myth by Anais. One night at Radio Bean Marco Benevento and Kat Wright put a spell on their audience. This is a recording of the event.

13.) I Put A Spell On You – Marco Benevento and Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band (just Kat but I left the name for the FB tag)
14.) Devil – farm
15.) Dragnet – Vedora
16.) Violence – Peg Tassey MUSIC

Ah yes, Halloween is a night to try on a new costumes and personas. Peg has donned the costume of Alice Cooper, as Violence is really Is It My Body. It’s funny because Alice Cooper is the costume of Vincent Furnier, and on it goes. Vedora speak well of the forces of attraction and forces are all that exist in the spiritual world. That was a frightening tale of Farm and the Devil, but it came out OK in the end. Up next is a song about masks and ghosts and blood.

17.) Lithuania – Hana Zara
18.) Masquerade For A Heartache – The Starline Rhythm Boys
19.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn and Salad Days
20.) Ghost – Phish
21.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things

Silly mortals, you cannot kill a ghost. Nice ghostly tales from Phish and Aaron Flinn. That energy transference that you call love is a powerful force. It sometimes requires a mask. Here is another band who play Burlington now and then, and they are wearing a mask.

22.) Children Of The Grave – JCHA
23.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
24.) Knight ov Swords – The Contrarian
25.) Ghostified – Persian Claws

It is time to return this mortal body to Tim. I hope you enjoyed my stories of your side and the other. Come back next week when Tim will continue to help you check out the music of this town, and perpetually do it again next week.

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. It was a little rough with the last song popping out of the player when I put a song into the queue, and having a couple of breaks blown away by the very busy Fire Department, but fortunately the songs were great, and held the day.

Songs before: 21st Century Schizoid Man (live) – April Wine
Move Through Time – Persian Claws

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. There is a lot of great music happening in town this week and there was a lot last week. The GPN festival with many great national bands, many great local bands and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals is Saturday and Sunday, but last Saturday was all about this guy. This is Shoreline In Jersey by Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Shoreline in Jersey – Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger
2.) Smile – Dwight & Nicole
3.) The Heart Is King – Pinhead
4.) Neighbors – And The Kids

And The Kids played a killer show opening for Joe last Saturday at Nectar’s. The crowd loved them and were completely on for the ride. Classic song from a great Burlington band. Have you seen the Dwight and Nicole video for smile? It will make you do so. Great song from Joe. So yea, tons of music at the waterfront in Burlington, lead by this band.

5.) Nothing But The Water (pt 1) – Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
6.) Hometown – Gold Town
7.) Parking Lot – Villanelles
8.) Nothing But The Water (pt 2) – Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I remember seeing Grace at Nectar’s on a couple of cold February days a long time ago, and watching the audience grow week to week, despite the sub zero temperatures. I knew she was taking off. I’m glad to see how big of a band they have become. The Villanelles are fun live. Both they and Gold Town are playing GPN along with other great bands like Anders Parker Cloud Badge, The High Breaks, Caroline Rose and lots of others. It should be a great time. OK, let’s play the next song on Ninja Jane. This one always rocked live!

9.) Fly On The Wall – Zola Turn
10.) Surface Tension – The Pants
11.) Never Satisfied – THE VACANT LOTS

Great song from their album Departure. They started in Burlington but now play all over the US and just started a tour of Europe. The Pants and Zola are great Burlington bands from the ’90’s. Last Saturday before the Rangers show, I went to the basement of one of the greatest music advocates in town, James Lockridge, and saw some heavy punk rock. I loved the twin guitars in this song.

12.) We Need Bigger Knives – As We Were
13.) Impaled On A Cuddly Spike – Dog Hospice
14.) The Wrong Song – The Lentils
15.) Green Peaks \ Dark Valleys – Get A Grip

I missed Grip at the party but loved the pure fury of that 44 second song. The Lentils played acoustic punk at the party and were lots of fun. I need to get more of their music. Dog Hospice was one guy with guitars strapped to his drum kit and the mic taped to his mouth with duct tape. It was kind of a cool show. Up next is a band who played the show, but went on before I could get there. Fortunately they are playing tomorrow night at The Monkey House, and I will be there!

16.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit
17.) Round Sum – Cave Bees
18.) Weapons Factory – The Wards

That was a classic ’80’s punk band. Cave Bees and Shephard’s Pie are playing the Monkey House show, but I don’t have any of the latter to play, yet. Up next is a great new song from a new favorite band who have played around for a long time.

19.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
20.) B.A. Pariah – Endless Jags
21.) Everyone Likes To Fight – Swale

Swale’s new album should be out very soon on white vinyl with a bonus album full of remixes. They are playing Saturday at 4pm at GPN if you want to see them. Great song from Jags who come to town now and then. In the north end of town you can go down almost any street and see lots of sunflowers.

22.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
23.) Old North Ender – James Kochalka Superstar
24.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica
25.) The Love You Feel – Lowell Thompson and Crown Pilot

Lowell has played around forever and is playing at GPN. Got a sense of how good it’s going to be yet? Great song from Vetica. Dave and James are classic Burlington artists. Sunday, after GPN, there is a huge after party at Higher Ground featuring Marco Benevento. Here is a song with him and Kat Wright live at Radio Bean

26.) I Put A Spell On You – Marco Benevento and Kat Wright
27.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler and the Rangers Of Danger
28.) Say It – Anachronist
29.) Until The Day I Die – Slingshot Dakota

Sorry that song got cut and my outro started to play. Ah, the joys of live radio. Carly Comando and Tom Patterson got married this week and I wanted to play that song in honor of the occasion. The best of luck to you!!! Anahronist have an album coming out soon. Great song from their last EP. The Joe show at Nectar’s last Saturday was great. He played the full album including a wonderful version of Pun. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM,ORG. It’s Jazzfest week, so I highlighted some of our great local jazzish music.

Song before: Breathing – Kate Bush

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It’s Jazzfest week and there were 4 bands playing on Church street when I walked down, and there’s music in every club in town. With all the flowers out, every time I step outside, it just feels great to breathe! Here’s Rubblebucket on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Breatherz (Young As Clouds) – Rubblebucket
2.) Breathe – Barika
3.) All About You – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band

Kat has a great voice and is a true local treasure. She and the band play Radio Bean all the time. That Barika song makes me happy whenever I hear it. Rubblebucket used to play all over Burlington. The last show I went to was Marco Benevento at Radio Bean. The show was recorded and uploaded so I downloaded it. Here’s one of the songs from that show.

4.) Such A Night – Marco Benevento
5.) See Me On My Way – Superhuman Happiness
6.) Killer Bee Bop – Zoot Wilson

Zoot is a legend in this town and I love the sting in the guitar. Superhuman have a great name, and the song makes me smile as much as their name. Killer playing by Marco. Up next let’s rock for a bit. Here is the next song from Dancing With The Big Guy.

7.) Drug Me Up – Ninja Custodian
8.) Lost And Found – Dented Personality
9.) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle

That song just fills me. Dented have changed their name to Better Things and are playing Sunday at Twofourtwo Main with Gorgon. Great song by Ninja. Let’s go back to some more fun with Marco.

10.) Fearless part 1 – Marco Benevento
11.) Benny And The Jets – Marco Benevento
12.) Fearless part 2 – Marco Benevento
13.) Stronger – Belizbeha

Great playing by Belizebeha, even if it’s a bit outside of my comfort zone. I do try and push myself a bit for Jazzfest week. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song after – Jungle Ride (live) – Fish

At the end of the show, Ted Jacobites stopped in and gave me a ride home on the rainy night where I did not bring my umbrella. He asked for a song by Corrinne Bailey Rae.

Dark Side Of The Mountain at Club Metronome December 29, 2013   Leave a comment

I think tonight went:

Obscured By Clouds -> When You’re In
Hey You
Lucifer Sam -> Arnold Layne chant ->Run Like Hell with slow dance jam.
Lowell Thompson came up to sing and play Arnold Layne
Marco Benevento came on for Speak To Me->Breathe->On The Run->Interstellar Overdrive, in the middle of which Matthew Bryan Hagen and Marco were going off and made me wonder what they might be able to collaborate on, then let it flow into Time. Things settled as they approached Gig. I was really close to the stage and suddenly there was a woman low on the stage who began to sing. As she nailed Gig she rose, and it was Grace Potter. She sang Gig will all of her heart and it was great. The band wrapped it up, and that was the end of set 1.

I correctly guessed that set 2 would begin with Money. I though Kat would sing it, but it was all Bob Wagner. Kat and Luc came up for Us and Them, the core 5, OK 6 with Marco, played a killer Any Color, then Kat came back for Brain Damage/Eclipse. My notes get fuzzy, but I think Matt crooned San Tropez then they brought up another singer, who’s name I missed, for Childhood’s End.  Somewhere in there Kat sang Have A Cigar.  Kelly Ravin came up to sing and play Yong Lust, then Kat returned, with Benny, for Wish You Were Here. They let it flow into Fearless, as usual. They followed with Pigs On A Wing (part 1) into Dogs., then wrapped the set with a killer Comfortably Numb.

They came back for Shine On You Crazy Diamond (the first 5 parts), then followed with Echoes to finish the night. It was another excessively late night of blisteringly magnificent music and I can’t thank all that were involved anywhere nearly enough.
