From our small city to the great big world these are the Sounds Of Burlington. There is a wonderful artist in our town who plays with bands like NODON and Villanelles who’s name is Seth Gundersen. Let’s begin tonight with a song from his older brother Dave that Seth just released for us.
I’m so excited to see Hana when she plays Radio Bean this Sunday. It was so great to see Maryse play last Monday at Light Club Lamp Shop. She will be there next Monday, and the couple after that. Sometimes the world looks dark so thanks Zookeepers for lighting that candle. Beautiful song from Dave. Thanks so much for sharing it Seth! Blowtorch will rock Radio Bean tomorrow. I love that Doll song. Classic from Envy. Great Husker Du cover from Rabbit. Frank DeAngelis was saying how much he enjoyed your performance of it. Cool song from Humble. This one is pretty cool too.
Clever will be at Higher Ground tomorrow. Great song from Zeus. Surf Sabbath will play at Nectar’s on Valentine’s Day. Great song from Kelly. This next band will play Wednesday too.
Don’t we all feel that way now and then? Cricket will play Sunday at Radio Bean with Hana and I’m very excited about that. Francesca will play with Maryse next Monday, though there’s another show happening at the Bean that I want to see too. Sigh. Swale will play some Black Sabbath songs on Wednesday at Nectar’s. Woo Hoo! OK, Here is the next song on Black, Blue & White.
Great song from Carraway. Wren is playing Friday at Light Club. I haven’t caught Protocol yet but will have to soon. Uncle will be at Radio Bean on Monday. Great song from the Siberians. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I’ve got lots of great new music to play tonight but let’s begin with one of Vermont’s absolute treasures.
That’s the next song from Kat’s album By My Side that I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. That’s a brand new song from Swale from their upcoming album There’s No One Here. Wow, what a beautiful song, and what about those horns? The Jeremy song was from the interview and recording we did a few weeks back at Robot Dog Studio. Great song by Aaron, who is a great guy, a great singer, a great songwriter and a fantastic guitar player. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful person in our community. Speaking of wonderful people in our community, this next band have been playing around for a while but don’t have anything recorded. We met up last night with Ryan Cohen at Robot Dog Studio and recorded this interview and they played these four songs.
5.) Sky – The Nancy Druids
6.) Just Another Day – The Nancy Druids
7.) By Design – The Nancy Druids
8.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
I love the songs and the over the top guitar playing and can’t thank Ryan and the Druids enough for playing that. Also, I brought my brother Ken along and he had a great time watching it all happen. OK, let’s play some more rock and roll.
Great new song from Clever. I love the huge sound of cascade. Kiki come out now and then to rock us hard, and it was cool to see Andriana play that song the other night. Great political rocker from Admiral. OK, let’s keep rocking.
13.) Give Love – 1881
14.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker
15.) Sorrow Of The Space Inside – Secret Heliotropes
16.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale
That song is so quiet and so loud and so gentle and so powerful and always blows me away when then play it live. I’m so happy I finally get to play it for you. That’s another cool song from Heliotropes album A Well Lit Room. Great song from Milton and same for 1881. OK, let’s keep rocking.
I was listening to Pigs the other day and the imagery of burn and summer of love made me want to play those three together. Great song from Senders. OK, It’s my job to play local music but I just have to cheat now and then. There’s this french prog rock band called Children In Paradise who have been captivating me lately. The singer is about to release her solo album and is starting a crowdfunding campaign on April 1st. Since I play her music before and after my show all the time I thought I’d toss in one of her new songs.
David sometimes lives in Vermont and sometimes lives in France so I thought that would be a fun way to bookend that set. Great song from Elephants. It sounds like they have new cool music coming for us soon. If you are near Jeffersonfille on Saturday, go check out Mountain!! Also, feel free to be like Ryan. Great song from Kat. Bonne Chance. OK let’s keep rocking.

intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a beautiful week in Burlington and tonight the town is hopping. There are people all over the place, lots of cars and motorcycles driving up and down main st. The kids went back to school this week, but it’s still a great summer night in town. Tonight I want to start with the upcoming Presidential campaign that is shaping up. No matter what you think, it’s important to elect smart compassionate people who are aware of the subtle intricacies of foreign policy. This first song is about AQ Kahn, the father of the Pakistani atomic bomb, and a cute ditty about unrequited love. Please choose leaders who know more about these kinds of things than rock stars. This is My Atom Girl by the Dirtminers on Wbkm and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.
Yea, I finally got a copy of that song that has been played all over Burlington for the last year or so. Thanks Ryan Osswald. Killer song from the politically aware and very thoughtful Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter. He played a pretty cool show at Radio Bean last Saturday. Yes, when choosing a Presidential candidate, it’s nice if they have a good understanding of the American experience, but as the late great Bill Hicks (AMERICAN The Bill Hicks Story) once said, “It’s a round world last time I checked” OK, back to music. Burlington had a wonderful guest come and play at Nectar’s for us last night. His name is Yonrico Scott and he’s played with the Derek Trucks Band and dozens of others. He was joined by a bunch of excellent Burlington musicians like Bob Wagner, Shane Hardiman, Josh Weinstein and others. Kat Wright got up and sang a couple of songs with him, which was pretty cool.
I went to Radio Bean and saw acoustic Barbacoa then some of Sammich, which featured Dalton Muzzy from Binger on drums and Josh Glass on keys. They were pretty cool. I saw some of their set, popped over to Nectar’s for most of Yonrico Scot’s first set, then caught the end of Sammich. It was a fun time. In 2013 a well liked and regarded local DJ passed away from leukemia at age 38. Andy Williams, also know as DJ A-Dog, created such love that there was a huge party in his memory last year at Arts Riot. This year the party is on Saturday and is at both Nectar’s and Club Metronome with tons of DJs all day and night, and a show from Rough Francis.
8.) U Thought U Nu-Funk intro… – DJ A-Dog
9.) Exit Strategy – Rue Mevlana
10.) Righteous – ROUGH FRANCIS
I’m pretty sure Francis really though A-Dog was righteous, so I wanted to play that one. Rue are playing a show in a couple of weeks called Motley Rue. Could be interesting. OK, here is the next song from JV.
I love that song, and miss Doll Fight! Classic ’90’s Burlington rock song from Tokyo. I haven’t caught up with As in a while and would really like to. Killer Mountain song!! I first saw this next band when they played one of the legendary parties at Max Krauss‘ house. He moved to Boston and joined them for a new EP.
Classic from Burlington’s ’90’s. I totally cheated with Flipside since KWP play in the Carolinas, but a local musician, who now lives down there, turned me on to them, and I wanted to play a song. Thanks for the heads up Brian Wardrep. This next band played around New England some time ago, had a beer named after them at Vt Pub, then eventually broke up. They are doing a reunion show at Higher Ground on September 5th.
18.) Ocheh (Someday I) – Currently Nameless
19.) Ordinary Day – Milton Busker
20.) Tune Of An Onion – Currently Nameless
Sean Daily, aka Milton Busker, used to play with Nameless so I though it would be fun to toss one of his songs in between two of theirs. He’s playing Aug 30 at Radio Bean with his new band The Grim Work. This next band played around from 2003-2012 and released this compilation called When Nobody Was Looking. They featured Adam Rabin who went on to join Elephants Of Scotland, and totally flew under my radar. Rats. .
21.) Attempt No Landing Aria – Mailbox
22.) Micronesia – Mailbox
23.) The Other Room (live) – Elephants of Scotland
Elephants are a long way into the third studio album. I can’t wait. Tomorrow at Radio Bean is Vermont Joy Parade, Duke Aeroplane & The Wrong Numbers, and a solo set from Anna Pardenik.
Getting back to the beginning, if you want a leader who will take care of your bretheren Bernie will do the job nicely. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
