Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG runs from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday August 31. You can stream it from this link: WBKM It will go as follows.

Song before: Texas Flood – Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Tonight I want to send my heart out to the people of Texas and encourage all of you to help if you can. Take your time and find a worthy charity since this will be going on for a long time. Let’s begin tonight with a recording from Robot Dog Studio from earlier this year.

1.) Able To Breathe – Peter Burton
2.) Faded Movie Reel – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
3.) Your Eyes – Forest Gray
4.) My Heart – Francesca Blanchard

Francesca is pretty amazing and will be at Foam Brewers tomorrow night. I caught a set by Forest at Nectar’s last Saturday and really enjoy his music. Nice song about looking back from Jeremy and sweet song from Peter. OK, here is the next song on Loose Tooth, the album I’m playing all the way through song after song week after week.

5.) 45 – Clever Girls
6.) Stardust For Dessert – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
7.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker
8.) Nature – Madaila

Madaila are throwing a huge party all day Saturday and will block off Main street in front of Nectar’s and play with a bunch of other bands. You’ve just got to love them. I caught a set by Milton on Tuesday at Light Club Lamp Shop and his band the Grim Work are really good. Great song from David about the Paris attacks and how we can change from being alive to stardust in an instant. Clever are playing at The Monkey House tomorrow and always put on a great show, though there’s so many other shows happening that night too. OK, there is a cool after Madaila party at Nectar’s and this band will be there.

9.) Felon – SWALE
10.) The Perfect Map – Elephants of Scotland
11.) Constant Disaster – When Particles Collide
12.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS

Francis will be at the after show party at Nectar’s too and I’m very excited. Particles played a great version of that last night at the Monkey House. Elephants are playing a show in New Haven Vermont on Saturday with their new bass player Robert Gagnon. Hmmm, Swale. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for an interview and live songs from Savage Hen. It’s another edition of WBKM live at Robot Dog Studio.

13.) Voodoo Revenge – Savage Hen
14.) The Wrong List – Savage Hen
15.) Clever Girl – Savage Hen
16.) Local Lore – Savage Hen

I want to thank Ryan Cohen for making us sound so good and to thank Jack Kubera, Matthew Bryan Hagen and Jeremy Gartner for rocking so hard. OK, let’s keep rocking.

17.) Comm To Space – Rough Francis
18.) Storm Cloud – When Particles Collide
19.) TFAY – Elephants Of Scotland
20.) Elevator – Swale

I’m so psyched to see Swale and Francis and am thinking the timing might be too tight to get back from New Haven in time. Sigh. Particles played that one last night too. OK, let’s keep rocking.

21.) Children Of The Stars – Madaila
22.) The Meanest Thing I’ll Ever Write – Milton Busker
23.) Hope In The Dark – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
24.) Catch And Release – Clever Girls

Clever have been opening with that song and I’m so glad they did a Robot Dog session with me so I have a copy to play for you. Yet another great song from David. Milton’s albums sound different from his band but the songs have the same basic structure. They played a cool version of that on Tuesday. I love that Madaila song. I really like this song too.

25.) Wanderer – Francesca Blanchard
26.) You’re Not Listening – Forest Gray
27.) Endless War – Jeremy Gilchrist
28.) Let Me Be – Peter Burton

I thought I’d end where I began with great songs from Peter and Jeremy. Forest played a cool version of that on Saturday at Nectar’s. Francesca writes such great songs. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday August 17th. It can be streamed at our Facebook page here: WBKM or at WBKM.ORG and will go as follows:

Song before: Kill The King – Rainbow

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a beautiful night in town but has been a challenging week for our country. We got to see the forces of fear spread a message of hate. We got to see lovely people stand up to it and we saw a lovely person die and her mother show us what strength and grace are. We have to fight this with love. Let’s begin tonight with a song about love.

1.) Can you Love Me Too? – Bethany Conner Music
2.) Trouble Come No More – Cricket Blue
3.) All We Need – Eastern Mountain Time
4.) Haze – gneiss

Great song by the lovely people in Gneiss. They will be at Red Square next Wednesday. I want to go but have a couple of other things happening that night. Check them out if you are downtown. Eastern are filming a video next Tuesday at The Monkey House at 6:30. I may work through it but love the lyrics in that song. Cricket and Bethany and others are playing at Farnham Ale & Lager VT on Saturday and it sounds like a great day of music. There is a lot of beauty in both of those songs, and we need beauty now more than ever. When confronted with so many emotions and images it can get overwhelming and sometimes a filter is needed.

5.) Great Filter – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
6.) Mad Captain – Brother Zag (Mike Luoma)
7.) Are We Mad? – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
8.) This Machine – Invisible Homes

As we have seen this weekend, and may see again this coming weekend, we will need to stand up to hate and fascism. Let’s use machines like guitars to fight the hate. We will have to do this alone since the man in the Oval Office has no intention of standing against hate. David and the band ask us an important question about our ability to elect such a man. Brother Zag wrote that song a long time ago and asking if our President is insane is more relevant than ever. Great song by Jeremy. OK, let’s ease off politics for a bit. It’s important to speak out but it’s important to keep making the world a lovely place. Last week I played the last song from 1881’s Light’s Camera Action “album” so it’s time to start a new one. This is a short one but all the songs are great. It’s called Loose Tooth by a band called Clever Girls and here is the first song.

9.) Tell Me No – Clever Girls
10.) Days Like These – Dysfunkshun
11.) Rock And Roll Is My Weapon – Ninja Custodian
12.) Sequoia 3 – Binger

I love the lyric in that song. We all started from the same root. We have grown in our own beautiful ways but we are all connected at the base. It’s important to remember that. If you want to stand up to hate and use rock and roll as your weapon, you have my blessing. That’s what I’m going to do. Dysfunkshun played back in the ’90’s and were always politically aware and Richard Bailey recently said if you are not political you are not punk. They will get the band back together in a few weeks at Higher Ground and I want to thank HG for sponsoring us here at WBKM. Great song from the Girls. I got to see them 3 times last week. OK, when you hear hate speech, please reject it.

13.) Rejected – Black Rabbit
14.) Full Moon Dark Places – Bull & Prairie
15.) Willow II – Tyler Daniel Bean
16.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)

Great song from the Breaks who will play at Foam Brewers tomorrow night. Tyler is on the road playing shows and will come by the Monkey House soon. He has a video about that song that delves into depression and we as a community don’t do mental health all that well. I want to thank him for helping us understand. I don’t know much about Bull except that they are from central Vermont and really rock. Thanks Ryan Cohen for turning me on to them. Rabbit are so great. These next two bands will be at Nectar’s on Monday with another band for a fun punk show.

17.) Two Weeks (’til The End Of The World) – Grand
18.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
19.) Insanity/Healing Dreams – Peg Tassey MUSIC
20.) Complex Vermont – Self Portrait

Vermont is liberal and conservative. We get really hot and we get really cold. We have people who believe in the alt right and we have people that love people. We are complex. In the midst of the insanity we will need Peg Tassey‘s healing dreams. The Doubtfire song begins with a quote from Trump saying ‘there’s no problem” but there is and he seems to be the only one who doesn’t notice it. Grand are one of the most fun rock bands ever. OK, this next band will be at Nectar’s tomorrow.

21.) Laughing Jim – The Edd
22.) Prog Noir – Stick Men (Official)
23.) Rainy Alley – Totally Submerged
24.) Avalon – Split Tongue Crow

Such a lovely song by the lovely Rutland band. Submerged play everywhere and I really like that song. Stick are a Crimsonesque band who will be at Higher Ground next Wednesday. I love the prog rock of the Edd. OK, let’s keep rocking.

25.) Before The Evening’s Thru – THE VACANT LOTS
26.) Black, Blue & White – The New Siberians
27.) The Road – Anders Parker
28.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE

If you feel alone and scared there are people like Swale and myself who care and want to help. This world can be beautiful and needs every last one of us in our highest and most loving capacity. Anders was at ArtsRiot on Saturday and I was sick and missed it but am sure it was a great show. Great songs form Siberians and the Lots. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music, and the love, of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

29.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

Hey guys, Tim here for one more song. It will be a Fish song as always, and tonight’s has a very civic minded intro. Before I get to that I want to go back a few years and play a song that demands to be played after the events of this week.

Songs after:

Nazi Punks Fuck Off – Dead Kennedys
Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors – Fish
Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
Private Public Breakdown – Alice Cooper
Murder – David Gilmour
Fireball – Alice Cooper
Tear It All Away – The Church Band
Rats – Alice Cooper
This Machine Still Kills Fascists – Senders
Holy Water – Alice Cooper
New York My Lovely – Joshua Glass Music

I had a great time seeing music Thursday night at Light Club Lamp Shop. The show was set to start at 7 and Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter usually does not play super long shows. I thought I could duck down and catch the show and be back in time to do the radio show write-up and get it out before my show started at 9.

I headed downtown about quarter of seven and it was bright and sunny and in the ’80’s. I made good time then slid into the shop and settled in. Jeremy picked up his acoustic guitar at 7:15 and played a beautiful 45 minute set. There is something about the way his songs sound and the lyrics spark ideas and the way his voice flows that keeps me coming back. He opened with Great Filter and followed with Thunder From Mansfield To The Lake. He told the story about that one being the first song he wrote after moving to Vermont and it raining continuously for weeks. He played a Floyd sounding cover of Down By The River and tossed in a little bit of Breathe in the late middle and at the end. He played one of his newer songs called Threaded and it kept me in a very happy place. Another new song, Faded Movie Reel, was up next and he tossed in a bit of Hunger Strike at the end to honor the life of Chris Cornell. He returned to Floyd for Two Suns In The Sunset then went back to his songs with The Time Traveler. The Endless War sounded as great as it always does and he wrapped the night with his unique cover of Round Here.

I let the last note fade out before ducking out the door and taking the quick walk home. There was one song of his that I still really wanted to hear but luckily enough, I had it set to play as part of my show that night. The timing was tight to get the write-up done, but I finished just in time and am so happy I put in the effort

The Jeremy song was from the interview and recording we did a few weeks back at Robot Dog Studio. The video for Willow II is really cool. Decentz played in the ’80’s, the Ninja song was from the ’90’s and the Phil song is a couple of years old. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
