I had a great time seeing music a week ago Monday at Nectar’s. I’d been meaning to catch up with Hellascope for a while and they were opening that Metal Monday night. I was slow to get out the door and they were on stage and rocking hard when I got in and settled. They had a beautiful and heavy doom and gloom sound and I was hooked form the first moment. They played a song about a creature and a song about magic. They started slow on the next one then they hit it hard and took it on a long epic journey over the mountain and across the sea. That ended the set and made me want to go see them again soon.

Up next was an instrumental band called Wolfhand. Their songs had a nice heavy flow and epic feel. They played sound clips in between songs and kept me in a happy place. Some songs were lead by the keys, some by the lap guitar and some by the bass. The electric guitarist lead a couple too. Their five song set was delightful and they closed with something about a convoy coming to pick up the gold. I’d go see them again anytime.

The headliner for the night was a band from western Massachusetts called Black Pyramid. They describe their music as psychedelic war metal and that sounds right to me. The songs had epic rises and falls and were tremendous. They opened with a long slow blues metal groove then rocked hard. I didn’t know any of the songs and let them take me on journeys through distant lands. They sang about soldiers and winter and I loved every moment of their set. I hope they come back and do it again sometime.

What a great night of music in our town.

Song before: Cinema – YES (official)

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. A week and a half ago a gentleman came to town and played a show at Radio Bean on a Sunday night. Let’s begin with one of his songs.

3.) Release Your Records – SWALE
4.) Falling – Xiu Xiu

Xiu will play tomorrow at Club Metronome and they sound pretty cool so I may have to check that out. I always know which new Swale song to play by checking and seeing which one has been running through my head all week. I hope that one gets stuck in yours, if you want. I had fun seeing Cones at The Monkey House and really liked that song and wanted to play it again this week. Cool song from Rosedale. OK, last week I finished playing Loose Tooth so it’s time to start a new album to play song after song week after week. This is a side project from The High Breaks called Surf Sabbath.

5.) Symptom Of The Universe – Surf Sabbath.

7.) Alienation – Black Rabbit
8.) Imaginary – Envy

That’s a classic from Burlington’s ’90’s and still a great song. That’s a new classic from Rabbit. Great rocker from David and the band. Recently, The High Breaks took a few Black Sabbath songs and rearranged them into a surf style then put them out on Bandcamp. I hope you enjoy hearing the album over the next few weeks.
