Song before Happy X-Mas (War Is Over) – Joshua Glass Music

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Yesterday I bought a cool Christmas gift from an amazing local musician so I thought I should begin with some of his music.

1.) The Positives Of Ten Degrees – The DuPont Brothers
2.) The Toy – Hana Zara
3.) Hallelujah – SWALE
4.) Black 17 – The New Siberians

That’s another great song from Black, Blue, And White, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. What a fun version of that song by Swale. I thought Toy would be a seasonally appropriate Hana song, even if the subject is a little different. It was nice chatting with you yesterday Sam. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for the last interview and live performance on my radio show this year.

5.) Car Bomb – Zeus Springsteen
6.) Signal Loss – Zeus Springsteen
7.) I’ll Find You Dindone Fontaine – Zeus Springsteen
8.) What’s Inside A Thing – Zeus Springsteen

Thanks so much Zeus for rocking so hard and Ryan Cohen for making us sound great. We did 16 of the live at Robot Dog shows this year and I hope you have enjoyed getting a small taste of the live music scene in Burlington. I’ve already got a couple of bands lined up in early 2017, and a cool announcement on the way. OK, it’s winter and beginning to get cold.

9.) Cold – Seth Yacovone Band
11.) It’s Cold – Black Rabbit
12.) The Wrong List – Savage Hen
13.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No

Great song from a rocking band who are amazing live. See you in January! Such a fun Christmas song from Hen. That was recorded earlier this year at Robot Dog. Nice seasonally appropriate songs from Seth and Rabbit. OK, here is a fun version of a classic.

14.) Funky Little Drummer Boy – Soule Monde (Ray Paczkowski & Russ Lawton)
15.) Alone In The Night – Andriana Chobot
16.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
17.) Just Another Day (Christmas) – Swale

Another great holiday song from Swale. They will play a show at Light Club Lamp Shop on Saturday which should be really fun. The Carraway and Andriana songs sound like what it feels like on the longest night of the year. This song has that feel too.

18.) The Mountain Carol – The Mountain Carol
19.) The Last Carol – The Cush
20.) It’s Christmas – Swale
21.) The Bells of Electric Haloland – Electric Halo
22.) Winter Serenade – Electric Halo

Halo are on of Joe Adler‘s many projects and sounds so great at this time of year. Another great song from Swale, who will play the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts on New Year’s Eve. That song from The Cush just warms my heart. OK, here’s another cool Swale song.

Song before: I Believe In Father Christmas – Greg Lake

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring the station. It’s just a couple of days until Christmas. We are just past the darkest day of the year and the days will, slowly, begin to get longer. It’s time to through a giant party with lots of lights to bring cheer in the darkness. Let’s begin tonight with some local bands talking about the holiday season in their unique ways.

1.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No
2.) Happy X-Mas (War Is Over) – Joshua Glass Music
3.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
4.) The Last Carol – The Cush
5.) Holidays – Sarah Blacker

That’s a lovely song by the lovely, and talented, Sarah Blacker. Just a stunning song by the Cush. The Carraway song sounds so right at this time of the year. Great cover of the John Lennon song by Josh. It’s a powerful message of peace and one that we will need in the coming year and years. I really hope Mountain get that sled for Christmas this year. As for me, I don’t want much for Christmas. Some nice songs and a killer guitar solo will be great. Oh look, I’ve got it right here. This is the next song on Shovel Down.

6.) A Question Mark To Answer – Seth Yacovone Band
7.) The Bells of Electric Haloland – Electric Halo
8.) Winter Serenade – Electric Halo
9.) Oh Holy Night – Electric Halo
10.) Paint It Black – Silver Bridget

Great take on the classic Stones song. It seems appropriate at the darkest time of the year. Johnnie Day Durand plays the saw with Silver and is joined by Joe Adler in Halo. Great song from Seth and the band. I just love this next band. They played a stunning show at The Monkey House last week. Here is their Christmas EP Kiss Mess.

11.) It’s Christmas – SWALE
12.) Snow Angel – Swale
13.) Just Another Day (Christmas) – Swale
14.) Hallelujah – Swale

Hmmm Swale. They are loveliness personified. OK, let’s move on to some classics.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. The Calendar says it’s close to Christmas but with it 50 degrees and raining, it sure does not feel like it. I guess it’s a good thing the world leaders are at least putting some plans into action to attempt to halt global warming. My song before the show tonight was from the concert for Bangladesh. On Saturday a bunch of local musicians will recreate the show at Higher Ground. I think I’m working, but will be there if I can. Tonight, let’s begin with some local artist playing Christmas songs. Let’s begin with one of my favorites.

1.) Happy X-mas (War Is Over) – Joshua Glass Music
2.) Hallelujah – Swale
3.) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer – Linda Bassick
4.) Carol of the Bells – Gordon Stone

Nice version of the classic by the super-talented Stone. Did you catch the version of that song with Stephen and Henry Rollins on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night? Check it out if you missed it! Great version of Rudolph by Linda Bassick. I love the lyric rewrite on the Cohen classic. Great song from Josh. Let’s keep going with more Christmas songs.

5.) It Came Upon A Midnight Clear – Electric Halo
6.) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen – Viperhouse
7.) Silver Bells – Josh Glass
8.) Winter Wonderland – The N-Zones

That was a fun romp from the classic Burlington band. Another great song from Josh. Nice groove to the Viper song. Great interpretation from Halo, who feature Joe Adler and the music saw of Johnnie Day Durand. Let’s go back in time to the late ’80’s or early ’90’s when Burlington bands really came into their own.

9.) Rain – The Cuts
10.) Hold Me Tight – The Decentz
11.) So Nice – Ninja Custodian
12.) Let’s Bury Bob – Screaming Broccoli

Great rocker from the classic band. I love that Ninja song. I love that Decentz song. I had to play Rain due to the weather. OK, let’s get to the next song on Red Flannel Hash.

13.) Double Line – Black Rabbit
14.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No
15.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS
16.) Beaten Down – Swale

The last time I listened to Pigs I though it has to mix into the Swale song. I’m psyched to see Francis at The Monkey House on New Year’s Eve! Killer Mountain song. Another classic from Rabbit. Swale just put out an EP with four Christmas songs, and are playing at the Monkey House tonight. I already played the fourth song on the album. Here are the other three.

17.) Just Another Day (Christmas) – Swale
18.) It’s Christmas – Swale
19.) Snow Again – Swale

Three new classics from one of the most wonderful bands in town. OK, let’s play some more classics from local bands.

20.) Santa Baby – Samara Lark Brown
21.) Frosty The Snowman – Construction Joe
22.) Jingle Bell Rock – Sarah Stickle
23.) The Christmas Song – Motel Brown

Just wonderful versions of classic songs. Here are some more.

24.) Little Drummer Boy – Aaron Flinn
25.) Merry Christmas Baby – Sandra Wright Band
26.) Oh Holy Night – Cait Hoffman
27.) Silent Night – Tammy Fletcher

Stunning solo vocal versions from Tammy and Cait. Nice groove to the Sandra song. Aaron is always so solid. OK, let’s play a few more then close with some regular local songs.

28.) White Christmas – Giovanina Bucci
29.) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Greg Alexander
30.) Santa Claus Is Coming To Town – Scott Mangan

Three more absolute classics. OK, here is a song that always inspires me.

31.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
31.) Above The Frequency – Invisible Homes
32.) On A Sunday – Screaming Broccoli
33.) In A Different Part Of The World – The Cuts

Cuts are showing a bit of Pinhead influence on that one. Killer song from Broccoli. Great new song from Homes. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. I will be off the next two weeks to spend some time with my family. I want to say Happy Birthday to my brother Ken, since his birthday is Saturday. I will be back in 2016.

I just got back from doing my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I played a lot of Christmas songs and some songs about what Christmas could mean.

Song before: Blue Light Shines – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I’m going to play a bunch of local artists doing Christmas songs but before I get into it, earlier today I was chatting with a musician about songs having value and being worth buying. He had a new single out and offered to give me a copy but I opted to purchase it instead. This is Old Souls Of Chatham County by Jeremy Gilchrist on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Old Souls Of Chatham County – Jeremy Gilchrist
2.) I donwannago (Surfin) – Super Music Band
3.) Beautiful Bones (live) – Lobot
4.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No

Love that song by Mountain. Can’t wait to see them January 3rd at The Monkey House with Black Rabbit and Dino Bravo VT. Chris Farnsworth plays guitar with Dino and Lobot and just got me a collection of 6 leftover Lobot songs. What a great guitar player. Dino also are playing tonight at Club Metronome. Another new song from Doug McAllister‘s new band. He’s in California now but has deep Vermont roots. Great song from Jeremy, totally worth the $ 1.00 I paid. OK, let’s dive into Christmas songs.

5.) Carol Of The Bells – Gordon Stone Trio
6.) It Came Upon A Midnight Clear – Electric Halo
7.) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Greg Alexander
8.) Merry Christmas Baby – Sandra Wright.

Great version of the song by Sandra, who used to play all the time in town. Beautiful singing by Greg. Beautiful saw by Johnnie Day Durand on the Halo song. Love the banjo work on Bells. This next song is by a great supporter of the local music scene and great local musician.

9.) Santa Baby – Samara Lark Brown
10.) Frosty The Snowman – Construction Joe
11.) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer – Linda Bassick
12.) The Christmas Song – Motel Brown
13.) Santa Claus Is Coming To Town – Scott Managan

Very elegant version of that song! Motel did a great version of that classic. I really like Linda’s take on Rudolph. That’s a fun instrumental version of Frosty. OK let’s step away from Christmas songs for a while. Last week I finished off the last song on Lipstick And Dynamite. It’s time to start a new album to play one song a week and go through the whole album. This next album features a great guy and a ton of great VT musicians. This is the first song from Many Things & Many Scenes.

14.) The Mime – Joe Adler
15.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila
16.) Neighborhood – Black Rabbit
17.) Finally Found The One – When Particles Collide

That was not a Christmas song, but the idea of finding the one for you and using that to step forward into life is reminiscent of the love of family that we focus on at Christmas. Congratulations Particles on winning the award for best new band in Boston. That feeling of love can easily extend beyond your direct family to your friends in the neighborhood. Nice song about love by Madaila, and thanks to Mike Luoma for getting me a copy of the song just before i went on air. Seven Days did a nice article on some of the people behind the music scenes in VT, and showcased a lot of wonderful people who make it all happen. I think Mike is one of those, even if he, and hundreds of others, were not directly mentioned. This next song is not a Christmas song but is a song about love, and choosing love and is very much in the spirit.

18.) You Can Love If You Want To – Peg Tassey MUSIC
19.) Silent Night – Tammy Fletcher
20.) Jingle Bell Rock – Sarah Stickle

Great version of the classic by Sarah. Wow, what amazing singing by Tammy! Great song by Peg. Let’s keep the Christmas songs flowing.

21.) Winter Wonderland – Joshua Glass
22.) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen – Viperhouse
23.) Little Drummer Boy – Aaron Flinn
24.) Merry X-Mas (War Is Over) – Joshua Glass Music

Wow, it’s been so many years since John Lennon wrote that song. You’d have though humanity would have caught up by now. Apparently not, but we can any time we choose. Great song by Aaron! That was a fun acid jazz version by Viper. This next song is not a Christmas song but truly invokes the spirit of peace on earth, good will toward people. They are playing right now at Manhattan Pizza and Pub but I’m on the air. I will have to catch up with them soon.

25.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
26.) It’s Just A Ride – Bill Hicks
27.) Silver Bells – Josh Glass and Jackie Buttolph
28.) White Christmas – Giovanina Bucci

Beautiful version of the classic. Great song by Josh and Jackie. I get the feeling Bill is still hanging at the evolution bell curve waiting for humanity to catch up. Maybe some day. This next song is not a Christmas song, but is seasonally appropriate.

29.) Winter – David L. Jarvis
30.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland

Check your list, you don’t want to forget about anyone. My brother Ken is having a birthday tomorrow, and I know he likes rocking music, so I’m sending that one out to him. This next song is for my father, your father, everyone’s father and you if you are a father.

31.) The Fathers Of The Year – I See Fish People
32.) Oh Holy Night – Cait Hoffman

Beautiful version of that song. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we?
