Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG can be streamed from our website or this Facebook page WBKM It will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday November 30 and will go as follows.

Song before: Winter – Tori Amos

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I enjoyed spending the time with my family and friends. It’s now legal to play Christmas songs but I only have a couple lined up tonight. I want to begin tonight by offering my deepest condolences to Gabrielle Douglas who just lost her father. He sounded like an incredible man. Gabby is strong and I want to begin with a beautiful piece of music that she and Burette have given us.

1.) The Last Carol – The Cush
2.) Overcoat – SWALE
3.) Plains – Tom Pearo
4.) Love In The Afternoon – The Thursday Torys

I just heard about the Torys. They are from Lyndon and sound pretty cool and I need to check them out more. Tom is a great musician. That’s from his new Headspace album. It has been chilly out and there have been several nights where taking a walk with a nice overcoat has been a lovely idea. Great song from The Cush. OK, let’s head on over to Robot Dog Studio for an interview and four live songs from Eastern Mountain Time.

5.) Fool That I Am – Eastern Mountain Time
6.) All We Need – Eastern Mountain Time
7.) Low Down Mid-December – Eastern Mountain Time
8.) Same Ways – Eastern Mountain Time

I want to thank the band for being so great and to thank Ryan Cohen for making us sound amazing. OK, on the last show I played the last song from the Surf Sabbath album so I have to start a new album to play all the way through, song after song, week after week. Let’s begin Black, Blue, and White by The New Siberians.

9.) All The Kids – The New Siberians
10.) Judgement Day – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
11.) In The Country – Bardela
12.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association

Sarah played a great version of that a couple of weeks ago at Club Metronome. I love playing that song when it’s cold out to remind us of what is to come. Lovely song by Bardela. Judgement is from the upcoming album Book Of Zoo and I can’t wait for it. Great song from the Siberians from a stellar album. So, on the night before Thanksgiving I went to Radio Bean and Light Club Lamp Shop and saw these next 4 bands.

13.) All Is Lost – The Mountain Carol
14.) Mama – Ivamae
15.) Do U Love U? – Best Fern
16.) Can We Be Still? – Thanya Iyer

Thanya and Fern are from Montreal and are friends and did not know that each other was playing that night. That’s so Burlington. Ivama is amazing and Carol are a really cool band from Plattsburgh. So, we’ve had some dramatic sunrises and sunsets lately with vivid colors. The other night the sky was purple and that always makes me think of this song.

17.) It’s Purple And It Sparkles – Zola Turn
18.) Wish For Winter – Near North
19.) Favorite Bag – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
20.) Complex Vermont – Self Portrait
21.) Militant Mind – Mycelium MC

That was recorded live at Jim’s Basement which is a pretty cool venue. Great song by the MC who is playing a show at 11 tonight at Radio Bean. Portrait paint a fascinating view of our state. Great song from Phil’s upcoming album. I can’t wait for that one either. Great songs from North and Zola. This gentleman will be at the Bean tonight at 11 too.

22.) You’re Not Listening – Forest Gray
23.) Hang Em High School – Barbacoa
24.) Supernatural – Ryan Ober and the Romans
25.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
26.) Christmas Sled – The Mountain Says No

I figure that if I keep playing that song, someone will have to eventually get Mountain that sled. Great rockers from Ryan and Crazy. Something about the Ryan song make me think it would sound great with the Crazy one. I caught Barbacoa the night after Thanksgiving with my cousins Michael Pearson and Caleb Pearson at Foam Brewers and they were amazing as always. Great questions from Forest. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday October 5th. You can stream it from our Facebook page link here: WBKM It will go as follows.

Song Before: I Don’t Like Mondays – The Boomtown Rats

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a tough week to be a music fan what with the shootings in Las Vegas by a man who’s mind just broke, then the untimely death of Tom Petty. The only think I can think of to do is to celebrate the people who are out there making art and music and spreading love and joy every day. Let’s begin tonight with a new band that I don’t know a lot about but are engaging the world with their music.

1.) The Mountain Carol – The Mountain Carol
2.) The Crow – Bardela
3.) Homesick – Jakals
4.) Safe To Say – SWALE

It gives me no end of comfort to know that Swale are out there making and playing great songs like that. Jakals are from Boston and came to visit The Monkey House last Saturday and put on a wonderful show. That song really stood out. I caught Bardela at the Monkey House on Tuesday and loved how Arty LaVigne and Cooie DeFrancesco‘s voices blended. The other two guys in the band were pretty good too. Cool song from Carol. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for another edition of WBKM live at Robot Dog.

5.) Done Saving Bones – Matt the Gnat and the Gators
6.) A Cut In The Night Sky – Matt the Gnat and the Gators
7.) Frozen Winning Streaks Of A Gambler – Matt the Gnat and the Gators
8.) Paper Doll – Matt the Gnat and the Gators
9.) A Monster’s Holiday – Matt the Gnat and the Gators

I want to thank Ryan Cohen for making us sound great and thank Matthew Bryan Hagen and Caroline Marie for such an amazing performance! Also, thanks to Burlington Beer Company for the tasty libations. Matt just had a birthday so Happy Birthday Matt again. OK, lets move on to the next song on the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song week after week. It is an album that features Matt on guitar.

10.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
11.) Hurricane Jane – Hayley Jane and the Primates
12.) Lovely Day – gneiss
13.) Come Kiss Me – Near North

North are about to release a beautiful new album called Most Every Night at the Monkey House on Saturday. Gneiss are at Red Square tomorrow evening. The Primates just released their new album We’re Here Now. I love it when they do Hurricane live and am happy to have a copy of the song that I can play. The Breaks are so great, whether they are in their usual mode or the Sabbath mode. OK, these next two bands will play with North on Saturday.

14.) The Invisibles – Black Rabbit
15.) Machu Picchu – The Mountain Says No
16.) The Mime – Joe Adler
17.) Nowhere Feels Like Home – Fire The Cannons

Sometimes it’s easy to feel lost and like there is no home and that song touches on that. Just remember, we all feel that way and can help each other make a home in our vibrant community. Joe is a true treasure and brings us lots of music. That’s such a great song. Cool songs from Mountain and Rabbit and I can’t wait for Saturday. So, a few weeks ago The Tsunamibots made me the director of robot propaganda and I thought I better try and live up to the title.

18.) Robotic Meltdown – The Tsunamibots
19.) Robots Making Love – Pinhead
20.) I Think I’m turning Into A Robot – Wave of the Future
21.) Rise Of The Robots (Reprise) – The Tsunamibots

I hope you enjoyed that fun set by such creative musicians. This next song was recorded at Robot Dog Studio and features Matt Hagen on bass.

22.) Local Lore – Savage Hen
23.) Comm To Space – ROUGH FRANCIS
24.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
25.) The Great Forgetter – The New Siberians

Such a fun song from the Siberians. Druids played a great version of that one last week at the Monkey House. Francis are a treasure and that song always rocks. Great rocker from Hen. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song before: Red Rain – Peter Gabriel

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Last week was a bit crazy in the political world but this week has seem a bit more calmness. All around people are being wonderful and building networks of love and planting seeds to help the future blossom. Let’s begin with a song about that.

1.) Seed Of Healing – That Virginia
2.) Young Girl – Clare Byrne: Song and Dance
3.) Mama – Ivamae
4.) Glory Bound – Maryse Smith

Great song from Maryse who used to play in town all the time but still stops by to enchant us. Ivamae’s songs are so beautiful. I have to go see her again soon. I wanted to go back to Clare’s ep after playing a song a couple of weeks ago. What a great song. I’ve really got to get to know That Virginia. Thanks Jennifer Grossi for sending me her music. OK, let’s head on over to Robot Dog Studio for another edition of WBKM Live At Robot Dog. Tonight I interview David Rosane & The Zookeepers and they play four cool songs.

5.) Grandma – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
6.) Sugar And Cream – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
7.) Hope In The Dark – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
8.) What The Fuck Went Wrong – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

Thanks so much Jennifer, Don Sinclair, David Rosane for playing and thanks Ryan Cohen for the production and recording and to Mary Wolcott for being part of the scene. OK, let’s play the next song on Loose Tooth which is the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week.

9.) Crazy – Clever Girls
10.) Lovely Day – gneiss
11.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker
12.) Finally Found The One – When Particles Collide

Particles are a great rock band and will be at The Monkey House next Wednesday. Milton is a great songwriter and will be at Light Club Lamp Shop next Tuesday. 13.) Strawberry Blonde – Dino Bravo VT
14.) Bridge To Panda Chaos – Zeus Springsteen
15.) Here We Go – Dysfunkshun
16.) New Age Woman – Pinhead

Classic song from Pinhead who helped shape the wide dynamic of music that we now have in town. Dys will get back together for a show soon. Zeus will rock Montpelier this Saturday. Great song from Dino. Last Monday I went to Nectar’s and saw these next three bands.

17.) Good Times – Grand
18.) We Govern The Breeze – Humble Hero
19.) I Choo-Choo-Choose You – Mr. Doubtfire
20.) Another Day Closer To Nothing – Grand

I had to play two Grand songs because they are so short and so great. Great song from Doubt. It was great to get to know Hero and they rocked that song hard Monday night. OK, let’s keep rocking.

21.) Commune – Greaseface
22.) Local Lore – Savage Hen
23.) One Thousand Lies – Comrade Nixon
24.) Monsters Are Due – Doom Service

Doom always put on great rocking shows. They will be at Finnegan’s on Saturday. Comrade are from NY and just put out a really intense album. Hen are playing Friday at 11:30 at Radio Bean I will likely miss the show since I have to work early in the morning and be responsible but have a feeling I will catch up with them soon. Grease are at Jim’s basement tonight. I saw them once and liked them and will catch up with them again. OK, let’s keep rocking.

25.) Drug Laws – SWALE
26.) Bernie Is A Punk – BERN Unit
27.) Game Of Thrones – The Mountain Says No
28.) Sober – Vedora

I miss Vedora but they put on some rocking shows and left us with some great music. Sunday is the last episode of this season’s Game Of Thrones so I thought I should get the Mountain song on now. It was cool that the California rockers who make up BERN rearranged the Ramones song to be about Bernie. Hmm Swale. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show will stream at WBKM.ORG and (FB) on Thursday July 13th from 9-11pm US Eastern time and will go as follows.

Song before: Do It Again – The Kinks

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  Last Friday Swale finally released their new album There’s No One Here.  It’s a double album with red vinyl and lots of amazing artwork.  There are a ton of fantastic songs on the album  Let’s begin tonight with what is almost the title song.

1.) Loser – Swale

2.) High Flying Bird – Anders Parker

3.) One From Two – Linda Bassick

4.) Lowdown – Vedora

Vedora rocked our town for a couple of years and Caroline is still out there making similar sounding music.  Great song from Linda.  Cool song from Anders album The Man Who Fell From Earth.  That’s such a fun and sad song from Swale.  They excel at that, as you will hear throughout the course of the evening.  OK, here is the next song on Action, the EP I am playing all the way through song after song week after week.  It’s the third EP in their “album” Lights, Camera, Action.

5.) Mass Murderer – 1881

6.) Cereal – Carraway

7.) Bird In A Cage – Swale

8.) The Nighthorses – The Cush

When listening to the new Swale album something about Bird reminded me of the Cush song so I thought it would be fun to play them back to back.  That’s an interesting way to spell the Carraway song.  Great stuff from 1881.  This next band are playing at Sidebar tonight.

9.) Taung Child Mastered – The Dead Shakers

10.) Spastic Tactics – The Edd

11.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants Of Scotland

12.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians

Great song from Siberians Black Blue and White album.  Great song from Elephants.  Nice trippy song from the Edd who will play a show for us in a few weeks.  I loved the Shakers the one time I saw them.  Last night I went to Nectar’s and saw these two bands, and need to get some music from the other one who played.

13.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

14.) Megaphone – Josh Glass

15.) Silver Dollars – Banana Schlitz

16.) Felon – Swale

Another great new Swale song that they have been playing at shows for a while now and I finally get to play it for you.  Banana will be at the Flynn Exposure series tomorrow at 5 or so.  Josh and Andriana were amazing last night.  Mal Maiz and Haley Jane were lots of fun too.  We are in the middle of summer and this song is so appropriate.

17.) Endless Sunkissed Lover – Gneiss

18.) Break A Leg – David Rosane And The Zookeepers

19.) Elevator – Swale

20.) It’ll Be OK – Let’s Whisper

I love how positive and fun that song is.  Super poppy song from Swale about a frightening event.  David and the band will be at American Flatbread next Wednesday.  Gneiss are at Red Square next Thursday.  Here is another song I have heard for a while around town that I now get to share with you.

21.) All Down Tonight – Swale

22.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler

23.) Catch And Release – Clever Girls

24.) Control – Ratboys

Ratboys are from Chicago and came and played a show on Saturday at Sidebar with Clever Girls.  Both bands were great.  Joe and his band played a great version of that one a week ago in Winooski.  Great song from Swale.  This next singer is performing tonight for the first time in ages and I could not be more excited!

25.) Boys Club – Peg Tassey

26.) 25 Mile Per Hour Blues – Better Things

27.) 22R – Cave Bees

28.) Drug Laws – Swale

I love how hard that song rocks continuously.  Bees and Things will be at the Monkey House on Saturday.  I love Peg.  I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

1.) First Kiss – Peg Tassey MUSIC
2.) Trouble Come No More – Cricket Blue
3.) Many Things And Many Scenes – Joe Adler
4.) The Worst Part – Bethany Conner Music

It’s been a while since I’ve been lucky enough to hear Bethany play but I saw she had a show listed recently so hopefully she will come back to town soon. Joe and his band played a nice version of that in the rotary in the Winooski traffic circle yesterday. It’s a nice setup. Cricket are playing in Essex on Friday and at Light Club Lamp Shop on Saturday. OK, here is the next song on Lights, Camera, Action and is the first song on the Action EP.

5.) Not Quite As Good – 1881
6.) Loose Tooth – Clever Girls

9.) Here’s Where You Were – SWALE
10.) Wooden Heart – Swale
11.) Release Your Records – Swale
12.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale

They just played a great show in the Intervale today and will be at the Lamp Shop tomorrow for the official release. Yea!! I saw this band once and liked them and they are back in town next week.

13.) The Field – The Dead Shakers
14.) The Summer Of Andy – The Cancer Conspiracy
15.) Stratosphere – Joe Adler
16.) Strings – Binger

Binger are now playing as Joe’s backup band The Rangers of Danger. They did a great version of Stratosphere in Winooski yesterday. Summer is a ’90’s Burlington classic. Last week The Nancy Druids pulled out this Envy song.

17.) 1,000 :Lies – Sean Toohey
18.) Lonesome Lullaby – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers
19.) So They Say – The New Siberians
20.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone

Telephone made such great music. Another great new song from the Siberians. Lonesome is a Gabby song but really sounds like a Cush song. OK, last week I saw Dino Bravo with David Evan sitting in on drums and that makes Zeus Springsteen a subset of that version of Dino Bravo.

21.) Bridge To Panda Chaos – Zeus Springsteen
22.) Strawberry Blonde – Dino Bravo VT
23.) Hell Chicken – Swillbillie
24.) Into The Void – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)

Song Before: Red – King Crimson

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. There is a ton of great music happening this week and it’s almost all on Saturday. Let’s begin with a band who are a local treasure.

1.) Cancer – SWALE
2.) Mother’s OK – Split Tongue Crow
3.) As Glass – Wren Kitz
4.) Jessie – Danny LeFrancois

I saw Danny a couple of weeks ago play with The Parts at Manhattan. They opened with that song. He just sent me his solo album The Ghost Of Kevin Bacon and that one jumped out at me. Wren is another local treasure. Great song from Crow and gorgeous song by Swale. I want to take a moment to say how professional our local doctors are and to give a shout out to all the wonderful nurses in our town and all around our planet. You are amazing and do wonderful work. OK, let’s play the final song on Shovel Down, even though it’s not listed on the album.

5.) Just Open The Door – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) Winter Is Over – Apartment 3
7.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association
8.) Brainwashed Nation – The Snaz

I think the Snaz have a new album but I have not checked it out yet. That’s an older classic. I love to play the Sarah song in the middle of winter and dream of summer. Apartment 3 are releasing their new album Saturday night at ArtsRiot. Great song from Seth. I’ll have to start a new album next week. I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring WBKM.ORG. 12.) The Big One – The High Breaks

The High Breaks will bring their surf rock sound to Finnegan’s on Saturday and Turtle will open for them. Marco is just going to rock Higher Ground on Saturday. Also on Saturday, The Nancy Druids will rock The Monkey House. Sean Toohey and Ann Mindell used to play in Envy and Sean used to play in this next band so their show will sound a little like these next two songs.

13.) Jet Pilot High – The Red Telephone
14.) Falling In And Out Of Sleep – Envy
15.) Nothing In This – The Mountain Says No
16.) Give Love – 1881

That’s another great song from their Action EP. Mountain will release their new album Golden Landfill soon. Classics from Envy and Red Telephone. Last weekend was fun, I got to see Joe Adler and Binger Friday and Jeremy Gilchrist and Joe Adler on Saturday. It sounded a bit like this.

17.) Relax – Joe Adler
18.) Resurrection In Sanskrit I – Binger
19.) If I Knew – Binger
20.) Letter From The 21st – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter

Jeremy did not play that song, but it’s one of my favorites so I had to play it for you tonight. Binger played Resurrection and If back to back and made them sound great. Joe played a great version of Relax. OK, let’s pull out a fun song from the ’90’s.

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time and will go as follows:

Epitaph (Including March For No Reason/Tomorrow And Tomorrow) – King Crimson

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I got out of work a couple of nights ago and looked up and saw Orion. It’s the sign that winter is here and it always reminds me of this song.

1.) Stylus of Id – Somah
2.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
3.) Nicky Says – Black Rabbit
4.) East Jabip – REDadmiral

With politics on so many people’s minds lately, Jabip seemed appropriate. It’s the season to rush around like crazy and sometimes it seems like it’s a countdown to meltdown. Thanks for explaining that feeling so well Black Rabbit. The days are getting shorter and shorter so the Carraway song is sounding perfect. Since they first played it back in the ’90’s that song by the short lived Somah always comes to mind at this time of year. OK, let’s play the next song on Seth Yacovone‘s new album Shovel Down.

5.) Caveman Guerrilla – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) A Company Man – Carraway
7.) Lights Of Montreal – Lobot
8.) Summer Falls – Lendway

I miss Lendway. Such a great song. Great song from Lobot that I love to pull out now and then. Zeus Springsteen sometimes play that one. More on that later. Another great new song from Carraway. Such a fun new song from Seth and the band. OK, let’s play some more super new music.

9.) I’m All Right You Say – Anachronist
10.) Nightingale – 1881
11.) It’ll Be Okay – Let’s Whisper
12.) Sri Lanka – Ellen Degenerates

Ellen will be at The Monkey House on Saturday. Great song from the Smittens offshoot. Great new song from 1881. Same for Anachronist. I felt terrible upon hearing of the death of Eric Olsen‘s father. I don’t know what to do or say, so I will just try and tell you all how amazing Eric is. It’s the only way I can think of to honor Eric’s father. Here is a small sampling of what Eric has helped create to fill our ears and hearts.

13.) Good Medicine – SWALE
14.) Armadillo – Swale
15.) Faineant – Swale
16.) You Are Not The Photograph – Swale
17.) Hit – Blue Button

Eric also plays with James Kochalka and Let Loco and likely others. I think Swale have a new album coming soon and are recording a video on Saturday. It’s too bad that I’m working. Those are all such great songs. OK, let’s keep rocking.

18.) The Meanest Song I’ll Ever Write – Milton Busker
19.) American Proxy – The Hero Cycle
20.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
21.) Black Blue and White – The New Siberians

I just love the new Siberians album. Great song by Telephone. If you like that song and are in town, check out The Nancy Druids sometime. Hero played around for a year or so in the 2000’s and I love their songs. Great song from Milton. OK, let’s keep rocking.

22.) The Day I Met You – Dirtminers
23.) Bridge To Panda Chaos – Zeus Springsteen
24.) U Can Love If U Want To – Peg Tassey MUSIC

Great classic from Peg. That’s a brand new song from the mighty Zeus. I’ve seen them a couple of times and love them. I’m so psyched to get more of their music and hopefully see them again soon. Great classic from Dirtminers. OK, there’s not much time left so let’s go out with a nautical theme.

25.) The River – Kat Wright
26.) The Anchor – Carraway
27.) Basalt Anchor – Vedora
28.) Ships – Anais Mitchell

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a beautiful night in the Queen city and there is a ton of stuff happening this weekend. Grace Potter is filling the waterfront with killer local and national bands Saturday and Sunday. It’s Pride week. The Art Hop is happening in the South End. Before I get to all the great stuff coming up, I want to mention a show I caught last week. Rue Mevlana put on a truly stunning spectacle of stage and music. They wove casual and classic stories with a hypnotic light and image show. Here is a hint of what the music was like.

1.) Hermaphroditus – Rue Mevlana
2.) Empty Frequency – Rue Mevlana
3.) Magenta Man – Rue Mevlana

That show was beyond words, which is unusual for me. OK, Grace is bringing a few national bands this weekend, but here are some wonderful local bands who will be there too.

4.) I Forgot – Maryse Smith
5.) Give Me All Your Love – Madaila
6.) Running Away From Home – The Snaz
7.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains

Four really cool songs from four really cool bands who are all going to play great shows this weekend on the waterfront. Tomorrow at the Art Hop these bands are playing at Arts Riot and nearby.

8.) Coming Down Again – Waylon Speed
9.) See You At Eight – Villanelles
10.) Staring Out The Window – ROUGH FRANCIS
11.) Let’s Go Crazy – Prince

I saw Prince once (thanks Kevin Joseph Ryan) and he was amazing, Unfortunately, Prince is not actually playing the Art Hop. However, a bunch of local musicians, with Craig Mitchell singing, will play a show called Operation Prince. It should be a wild time. The other three are playing at Arts Riot and that will be a great time as well. A little farther down Pine st, these next three bands are playing at Zero Gravity Brewery. The singer for the first band was also part of the Rue show.

12.) Toejam – The Toes
13.) We’re Closed – Blue Button
14.) Alienation – Black Rabbit

Black Rabbit have a new drummer and are ready to rock us hard. BB rock hard too. The Toes are so delightfully quirky, and rock hard too. I’ve seen this next band several times in town and am always blown away. They are a killer rock band and two of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. I’m so psyched for their show next Wednesday at The Monkey House.

15.) Intro – Slingshot Dakota
16.) May Day – Slingshot Dakota
17.) Wave – Slingshot Dakota
18.) Grudge – Slingshot Dakota

I just saw that song on bandcamp and really liked it. Wave is a killer song from the first album. The first two are from the second. I can’t wait to see you Carly Comando and Tom Patterson!! OK, it’s time to play the last song on the stunning album JV. I guess I have to start a new album next week.

19.) Statistik – The Mountain Says No
20.) I Don’t Know How To Love Him – Jesus Christ Superstar
21.) Superstar – Jesus Christ Superstar

The Mountain Says No are playing the Art Hop on Saturday, so if you like that song, Go Check Them Out! I played the two songs from Jesus Christ Superstar in honor of my father, who died suddenly on Tuesday. That was, maybe, the only music that we both really loved. It’s hard knowing that he will never be there again, while wondering where, if anywhere, he is now. It’s been a long few days, but there have been so many wonderful people sending good thoughts that I can feel the love being sent to me and my mom and brother. I want to just play some of the music that has inspired me and made me feel love. Do not be offended if your music was not played, I’m just grasping for any lifelines that I think of. I don’t have enough time in the show to grasp even a third. I love you all for how you have helped and know we will all be there for anyone going through such a tough time. I want to start with a song from a man who’s love even radiates through social media posts. Last week I saw Joe Adler, who recently lost his father, talk about seeing a bird every time someone has died, and feeling like their soul might be in the bird. I don’t have the song Little Bird to play, so let’s start with the above mentioned, love radiating, Aaron Flinn.

22.) Scattered Birds – Aaron Flinn
23.) Dreams Elope – Joe Adler
24.) Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone – Kiki’s Lost Nation
25.) New Appreciation For Sunshine – The Cush

I want to thank you indeed. Thanks for all the kind words, all of you. Life is full of joy and pain and dad always wanted to help the downtrodden. I think this song is highly appropriate.

26.) Joyless – Swale
27.) Ornan’s Song – Dirty Blondes
28.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
29.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone

I always got such a timeless feeling from that song. Thanks Matt Hutton. Thanks Phil Yates, and OMG thank you Raph Worrick. Thanks Rebecca Rogers, Diane Sullivan, and make sure you send lots of love to Ornan McLean and his family, because they need it too! Amanda Gustafson, Eric Olsen, you’ve been fantastic. OK, here is another song that I’ve just always loved and really want to play.

30.) Once Upon – Vedora
31.) Sequoia 2 – Binger

I just love that song too. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I always play a Fish song after my show, because I love his music and his ideas and his fantastic way of expressing them through his very intense lyrics. This week I just got an album I’ve been waiting for and just love this song. I don’t have to be up early so I can hang out a bit later tonight, so let’s go.

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. It’s the day before Halloween so I played lots of scary songs and let Mr E. Ghoul speak about energy, spirits, mortality and what lies beyond.

Songs before:Please Mr Gravedigger – David Bowie (Official)
End Of the World – Gary Moore with Jack Bruce on bass and vocals

intro

Good evening, it is I, Mr E. Ghoul, here to play the substance that you quaintly call music for you this evening. The one you refer to as Tim has again this year lent me his body so that I may incarnate for two of your earthly hours. I have scary songs lined up to challenge your perceptions of what is in your reality and what is the reality beyond. Let’s begin with a ride on the crazy hearse. This is Barbacoa on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Crazy Hearse – Barbacoa
2.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
3.) Demons – Waylon Speed
4.) Monsters – Cold Sweat
5.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit

That song was about the Black Cat Cafe, a place on Bank Street in Burlington, that burned in the 1970’s. People transferred from your mortal world to the spiritual one in the blast. Last week Tim played the last song on the Row EP from Anachronist. He will now play Lipstick and Dynamite all the way through, song by song, week after week, Black Cat was the first song. Nice tale of all the monsters in the world from the Syracuse band. Scary supernatural songs from Waylon and Crazyhearse. People died in the Black Cat fire but that is part of your mortal cycle. More cats will be born.

6.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids
7.) Nosferatu – The Lestons
8.) Vampyre – David L. Jarvis

Scary song from Dave and a nice homage to one of the first times you learned dance energy and to move pictures and made something that can shift your emotions, to this day. I hope you weren’t too scared of the Kids tale of monsters in the closet. Let us now look west and take a trip through the graveyard.

9.) Graveyard Before Dark – Alice Austin
10.) Our Lady Of The Underground – Anais Mitchell
11.) Death – Ccccome!
12.) Dogs At The Door – Milton Busker

Such a scary tale of imminent doom from the mortal you call Milton. It is only your understanding of yourself as a part of your body that you fear the dogs and death. Despite the scary title, death is just the transformation from this realm to the next, and it contains beautiful irony in that the author is so full of life. That was a nice tale of digging into your subconscious through the power of myth by Anais. One night at Radio Bean Marco Benevento and Kat Wright put a spell on their audience. This is a recording of the event.

13.) I Put A Spell On You – Marco Benevento and Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band (just Kat but I left the name for the FB tag)
14.) Devil – farm
15.) Dragnet – Vedora
16.) Violence – Peg Tassey MUSIC

Ah yes, Halloween is a night to try on a new costumes and personas. Peg has donned the costume of Alice Cooper, as Violence is really Is It My Body. It’s funny because Alice Cooper is the costume of Vincent Furnier, and on it goes. Vedora speak well of the forces of attraction and forces are all that exist in the spiritual world. That was a frightening tale of Farm and the Devil, but it came out OK in the end. Up next is a song about masks and ghosts and blood.

17.) Lithuania – Hana Zara
18.) Masquerade For A Heartache – The Starline Rhythm Boys
19.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn and Salad Days
20.) Ghost – Phish
21.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things

Silly mortals, you cannot kill a ghost. Nice ghostly tales from Phish and Aaron Flinn. That energy transference that you call love is a powerful force. It sometimes requires a mask. Here is another band who play Burlington now and then, and they are wearing a mask.

22.) Children Of The Grave – JCHA
23.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
24.) Knight ov Swords – The Contrarian
25.) Ghostified – Persian Claws

It is time to return this mortal body to Tim. I hope you enjoyed my stories of your side and the other. Come back next week when Tim will continue to help you check out the music of this town, and perpetually do it again next week.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It was warm and sunny this week, until Wednesday, and some new music has been unfurled in the world. This is from the new album Photoelectric by a band called When Particles Collide. This is a song called Lean In on WBKM, and even though they are from Maine, this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) Lean In – When Particles Collide
2.) B A Pariah – Endless Jags
3.) Red And Gold – Old Soul

Those three bands are from Maine, and even though I love the music from Vermont, they’ve got some good stuff going on too. I saw Old Soul once at Radio Bean and they were really impressive. Jags and Particles come to town and rock, now and then. Particles released the new album Tuesday and are off and rocking. Now it’s time for the next song on Dancing With The Big Guy. So far on the album there are rap songs, funk, punk and indie rock. Any bet they also have a country song?

4.) Lucky- Ninja Custodian
5.) Easy Come – Split Tongue Crow
6.) Santa Anna – Hana Zara

I used to play her album all the time. I just pulled it out the other day and just saw the title and had to play Santa. I though Easy Come would work nice with the theme of lucky. I was reading that Robert Gagnon was visiting John Baumann and am hoping for some more Satori Bob. Until then…

7.) Presence – Satori Bob
8.) Coming Down Again – Waylon Speed
9.) Don’t Cough Me Out – Slowdim

I really liked playing that song the other week and wanted to play it again. Nice new song from Waylon’s new album Kin. Up next is a band who are recording a new album. This is a classic Burlington song.

10.) I Am Sunday – The Red Telephone
11.) Chop Wood/Carry Water – Zola Turn
12.) Warm Chills – Persian Claws
13.) Constant Disaster – When Particles Collide

Ending where we began. I had a bit of space in the set so tossed in Warm Chills. Thanks Persian for so many great short songs. Classics from Zola and RT. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we”
