Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will run from 9-11pm Thursday May 11, and will go as follows:

Song before: Bel-Air – The Church Band

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Spring is in full bloom and the leaves are coming out and it’s almost time for the lilacs. Tomorrow is my birthday so tonight I will just play a bunch of my favorite songs. If your band is not in the list I still love your songs but I just grabbed two hours of songs that fill my heart. I’m sure I could have done a twelve hour show and still missed a lot of greatness. Let’s begin with a woman with a huge heart and powerful voice.

1.) First Kiss – Peg Tassey MUSIC
2.) Liar – Maryse Smith
3.) Happy Birthday Harry – Hana Zara
4.) Presence – Satori Bob

Satori have a new album that I will dig into next week, but Presence has spoken to me continuously since the first time I heard it 25 or so years ago. Hana’s songs are entrancing and each one is a ride to go on. She is so great. It was nice to see Maryse briefly at Waking Windows last weekend. Peg is so fantastic. OK, last week I played the last song on Kat Wright’s By My Side album, so it’s time to start a new one. Last year this next band put out three EP’s that really feel like one album. Here is the first song from Light’s, Camera, and Acton.

5.) The Storm Has Been Weathered – 1881
6.) It’ll Be OK – Let’s Whisper
7.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
8.) Alone In The Night – Andriana Chobot

I’ve been captivated by Andriana’s music since I first heard it last year. I love everything about that Carraway song. It’ll Be OK has been stuck in my head for the past few weeks. Great song from 1881. Here is another great song.

9.) Piano In Every Room – gneiss
10.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
11.) Loose Tooth – Clever Girls
12.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

I just love everything about that song. Loose was recorded live at Robot Dog Studio by Ryan Cohen. I love how it rocks so hard. Aaron has a ton of great songs and that one just had to find it’s way into this mix. I love it when there is music everywhere and a piano in every room. This next song has been stuck in my head lately too.

13.) Always Monica – Chin Ho
14.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
15.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
16.) I-90 East – ROUGH FRANCIS

I love all of Francis’ songs but there is something about that one that made it jump out at me. So, last Friday I was quickly walking down Riverside ave when a car pulled over and said Tim, get in. Thanks for the ride to Waking Windows Urian Hackney and Julian Hackney!! Politicians is a great song and I loved seeing them at the Flynn not so long ago. Earthquakes is one of my many absolute favorites. Monica, always! Every time I catch this next band I just love them.

17.) Windigo – Crazyhearse
18.) Orange Like Water – The Cush
19.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE
20.) The Revenge Of Vera Gemini – The Contrarian

That version of the Blue Oyster Cult song is so fantastic. Swale were great at Waking Windows and played a stunning version of that song. It was so wonderful to finally see the Cush again at Waking Windows. They played a stunning version of that song. Hmmm, Windigo. The first time I heard this next song it sent shivers down my spine. It still does.

21.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
22.) Black, Blue, and White – The New Siberians
23.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids
24.) TFAY – Elephants of Scotland

I love a lot of Elephant’s music but that one always stands out. I love the Druids so much! There are many great songs from the Siberians but that one just seemed to fit the set. Hmmm, mountain. OK, this next band always rock.

25.) Burning Bridges – Blue Button
26.) Papertrain – Dave Jarvis (Daffy Mal Yinkleyank)
27.) Sequoia 3 – Binger
28.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker

That is such a great song from Anders. I love a lot of Binger songs but always keep coming back to that one. Great song from Dave. His band Agent 802 are starting to play shows. Button always rock hard. I hope you were OK with indulging me on the day before my birthday. Next week I will play lots of new music and take some chances but tonight I just wanted to hear some favorites. See you next week.

29.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
outro

Songs after:
Crucifix Corner (live) – Fish
Fractured Mirror – Ace Frehley

Tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM can be heard from our Facebook page link, or over the air. It will run from 9-11pm this evening and will go as follows:

Song before: No Plan – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to begin by thanking the wonderful Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. With the upcoming change in Presidents a lot of us are feeling anxiety. Hopefully, tonight’s show will confront that anxiety and help steel our nerves for what is to come.

1.) Two Weeks (’til The End Of The World) – Grand
2.) I know Right – The Mountain Says No
3.) Six Month Winter – Suburban Samurai
4.) Lion Tamer – Carraway

Now that the lions will soon be in charge we are all going to need to learn to become lion tamers, in a loving caring way. Great new song from Suburban. They played at The Monkey House last night. That’s a great new song from Mountain from their upcoming album Golden Landfill. That’s an early mix but sounds so cool. Great song from Grand. OK, let’s play the next song on Shovel Down, the album I’m playing all the way through song after song week after week.

5.) The Violent Strain Of My Broken Heart – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) The Mime – Joe Adler
7.) The Road – Anders Parker
8.) Machu Picchu – The Mountain Says No

Wow, they really had to climb the heights to create that one. Thanks Mountain! Anders played an amazing show at ArtsRiot last Friday. His version of that song was stunning. It’s pretty great on album too. Joe played at Radio Bean a week ago Monday and reminded me how great that song is. Great song from Seth. OK, with lots of fake news about and an incoming President who speaks in vague generalities and when he does cite facts, is usually wrong, it’s pretty scary and makes this song sound appropriate.

9.) Barbie’s Plastic Army – REDadmiral
10.) Nicky Says – Black Rabbit
11.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
12.) Get Out Of Your Own Way – Kelly Ravin

Great song from Kelly’s new Bonneville album. He and his band the Welterweights opened for Anders last Friday. Doubtfire played at the Monkey last night. Rabbit nicely sing about the countdown to meltdown. Sadly appropriate song from Admiral. OK, here’s another Anders song. He wrote it about the W Bush years but is seems it will be appropriate again soon.

13.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
14.) You Say You’re Alive – The Mountain Says No
15.) Devil’s Right Hand – Swillbillie
16.) 8 Long Years – 1881

Great new song from 1881’s Action EP. Hopefully, it will be four. Swillbillie will play at Nectar’s on Saturday. Another stunning new Mountain song. What a great rocker from Anders. OK, let’s play another new Mountain song. I’ve been waiting a long time to be able to play this one.

17.) Glazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
18.) Waterlanding – SWALE
19.) American Proxy – The Hero Cycle
20.) The Possibility Shop – The Red Telephone

No matter what happens in the next few years, there will be tons of possibilities. Let’s consciously make decisions to try and make choices that are good for us and our communities at all times. Great song from Hero. Swale are playing with a ton of other local bands at The Monkey House tomorrow. Everyone is playing country songs so that should be fun. I love that Mountain song. OK, as we stand at the abyss of a new administration this song seems appropriate.

21.) Into The Void – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
22.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
23.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS
24.) Boys Club – Peg Tassey MUSIC

That is a great song about lashing out at an idea that seems to be coming back into power. Great song from Francis about standing up to racism. Sadly still appropriate song from Death. Breaks are playing at Foam Brewers tomorrow. This song is about fighting for the American Dream.

25.) American Dream – Doll Fight
26.) Upstream – The New Siberians
27.) Back Home – Eastern Mountain Time
28.) Babies To War – Milton Busker

Great song from Milton. Yes, let’s not send our babies to war anymore. He and his band The Grim Work played at Light Club Lamp Shop last weekend. Eastern are at the Monkey tomorrow. That’s a great new song from them. Great songs from Siberians and Doll. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

13.) Gettin High – Heavy Plains
14.) MSP2 – ROUGH FRANCIS

Another cool show that is happening Saturday is at 242 Main and is the 20th anniversary of Big Heavy World. I want to thank James Lockridge for all that he has done for our music community. From our – hey why are the meters not showing anything. Aargh

1.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Sorry for the mic not working at the beginning. I guess you really know that I’m live. It’s beautiful in Vermont right now but it’s really hot and time to head to the beach.

2.) I Wanna Be A Lifeguard – Blotto
3.) The Storm Has Been Weathered – 1881
4.) Say It – Anachronist

I just love that song from the central Vermont band. I chatted with Winfield Holt from 1881 in the window of the show at Nectar’s last night and really want to catch his band soon. I remember seeing Blotto at Hunt’s a couple of times a long time ago. OK, here is the next song on Giant Places, the album I am playing through song by song, week after week, until the album is done.

5.) Summer Falls – Lendway
6.) Gray Goo – Villanelles
7.) Sunshine – Apartment 3
8.) Kick Rocks – And The Kids

Kids played a great show at ArtsRiot last Saturday. Apartment 3 played the show and they were pretty awesome too. Villanelles are playing every Wednesday in July at Nectar’s. They played a great show last night with Invisible Homes. Next week Swale share the bill, so that will be great too. On July 28th the legendary Envy will reunite for a show at The Monkey House. It’s time to start getting excited.

9.) Falling In And Out Of Sleep – Envy
10.) Summer Song – Wide Wail
11.) Grounded – Invisible Jet
12.) Another Life Ago – The Cush

I still remember the first night I saw the Cush at Club Metronome several years ago. Jet played some great shows in the ’90’s and it was great to hear music diversify in so many ways. Now, you can hear almost any kind of music in Burlington. That was a nice mellow song from WW, another classic ’90’s band. OK, let’s keep rocking. This next band play tomorrow night at Manhattan Pizza and Pub.

13.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
14.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
15.) It’s Real Again – Zola Turn
16.) Dead Summer – Thompson Gunner

There’s always something on the radio when you listen to WBKM. You can hear great songs like Dead Summer. Real is another classic from the ’90’s when Zola played a ton of great shows. Death began in Detroit, then they moved to VT and became Lambsbread and now they are rocking as Death again. I loved the show they played at Flynn Center for the Performing Arts last year. Hmmm, Mountain. This next band played a great show last night at Nectar’s and this is one of my favorite songs.

17.) Above The Frequency – Invisible Homes
18.) Sun Dipped Orphans and the Wizard’s Tea Pot – Elephants of Scotland
19.) The Summer Of Andy – Cancer Conspiracy

CC were another great band from the ’90’s. That’s a new song from Elephants who are putting out some tremendous music. Homes did a great version of Frequency last night. OK, let’s change things up a little bit.

21.) The Feeling Is Strange – Binger
22.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

I had a fun time doing my local music radio show last night on 107.1FM and on the internet at WBKM.ORG. It’s just amazing how much great music we have in this town.

Song before: On The Air – Peter Gabriel

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last night I got a chance to go to WRUV and hang out while the Nancy Druids played live in the studio on their local music show Exposure. The Druids don’t have anything recorded yet, so let’s begin tonight with a song from Sean’s former band, and that will give you a hint of what they sound like.

1.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
2.) Paranoid – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
3.) The Next Instead – Swale

I love the sweep of the Swale song. They will play a fun show next week, but more on that later. The High Breaks play fun and intense surf rock, and recently rearranged several Black Sabbath songs into surf versions. They released them all for free on Bandcamp so I had to play one of the songs. Great song from Telephone. OK, it’s time for the next song on the Bernie Sanders EP that I am working my way through, song after song, week after week until I’ve played it all.

4.) Where Have All The Flowers Gone – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont artists
5.) Forsythia – Cricket Blue
6.) Dreaming Too Much – Alpenglow
7.) Break – Slingshot Dakota

That is the title song from Slingshot’s brand new album. They are from PA but come to town to play on a regular basis. They will be at the Monkey House May 10th, Another great new song from Alpenglow’s new album Callisto. Cricket have shows coming up in March and April all around New England. I think they have new music coming soon too. So, a week from Saturday, there is a show at Higher Ground to show a movie that was recently made about ’90’s rock band The Pants. They will show the movie, ‘High Water Mark, The Rise And Fall Of The Pants” then Swale will be the house band and lots of local musicians will come up to play Pants songs. Here’s a few that will join in.

8.) High Water Mark – The Pants
9.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
10.) Satellite – Guster
11.) Hit – Blue Button

Jason Cooley and Eric Olsen from BB will be at the show. Ryan Miller from Guster will be at the show. Amanda Gustafson from Wide Wail will be at the show, and Tom Lawson from the Pants will be at the show. I’m sure lots of others will be there as well. OK, the Surf Sabbath song was so fun, let’s play another.

12.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)
13.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink Or Swim
14.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death

I was watching Vinyl last week and it was so cool when Politicians played. I thought it would be fun to pull it out this week. Great song from local rockers Swim. The Surf versions of Sabbath songs are so fun. Here’s a song I’ve always enjoyed.

15.) 1965 – The New Siberians
16.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
17.) Finder – Madelines
18.) The Bomb – The Mountain Says No

Great song from Mountain. Finder is a classic from the ’90’s. Aaron is such a great guitar player and songwriter. The Siberians song just rocks. OK, let’s play another new Slingshot song.

19.) Monocacy – Slingshot Dakota
20.) The Call – Swillbillie
21.) Hold Me Tight – The Decentz

Tight always gets me dancing around the studio. I hope you had fun with it too. Great strong song from Swillbillie. I love everything about that Slingshot song. This next song is a new one that has been getting me going lately.

22.) If I Knew – Binger
23.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
24.) This Land Is Your Land – VT artists.

Such a lovely version of that song from some of the area’s finest musicians. I love the lyric in the Bern song. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM.org. I started out with a couple of local highlights from the Neil Young show, then played some great local music.

Song before: Hymnalayas – Gong

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It’s been a beautiful day in Burlington and lots of people are out and about tonight. It was also a beautiful night last Sunday when Neil Young and The Promise Of The Real came to Essex. He came to Vermont to support our GMO labeling law, which is the subject of his new album The Monsanto Years. This is one of the songs from the album that heavily mentions Vermont and the importance of knowing what we are eating, This is A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop by Neil Young on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop – Neil Young
2.) Moonlight In Vermont – Willie Nelson
3.) Threaded – Jeremy Gilchrist
4.) Dead Summer – Thompson Gunner

It’s summer in Burlington and that was a band from Rutland and that was recorded at Nectar’s. Great new song from Jeremy. At the Neil Young show, Lucas and Micah Nelson were part of the Promise Of The Real. They are the sons of Willie and Lucas sang a great version of Moonlight In Vermont last Sunday in Essex. Oh, yea, it’s summer. Let’s head to the beach.

5.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork
6.) I Wanna Be A Lifeguard – Blotto
7.) Theme Song – Shark Victim
8.) Rising Suns – Mammal Dap
9.) Rise – Barika

Such a nice cool breezy song. If you like that song, head to Radio Bean tomorrow. Mammal just played Summervale earlier this evening. When you go to the beach, obey the lifeguard and watch out for sharks, especially when surfing. So, on Saturday there is a celebration of the Old North End of Burlington. People get together and walk around the ONE and check out art and music and food and what businesses are doing and all sorts of fun things. It’s called The Ramble and this next set of music is dedicated to Burlington’s Old North End.

10.) Old North Ender – James Kochalka
11.) The North – Hana Zara
12.) North Street – Death World Wide

Killer rocker from Death. I love the imagery of the north end in Hana’s song. Loud and Proud nicely describes the ONE, thanks James. OK, it’s time for the next song on JV, the killer new album from The Mountain Says No.

13.) JC And The Beast – The Mountain Says No
14.) Getting High – Heavy Plains
15.) Lean In – When Particles Collide
16.) Nowhere Feels Like Home – Fire The Cannons

I still remember that time when there were not a lot of cool rock bands around for a few months and then came Cannons. Oh, how they rocked so many great shows. Killer song from Particles who are touring all over the US and just played Toronto too. I’m still in awe of Plains from that Nectar’s show. Hmm, Signs And Wonders. Hmmm Mountain. When I put tonight’s show together the beginning just flowed then I hit a wall after Nowhere. I just wasn’t sure where to go next, for a moment.

17.) Where Do We Go? – Black Rabbit
18.) Always Monica – Chin Ho
19.) The Day I Met You – Dirtminers
20.) Mirror Mirror – Joe Adler

Killer song from Joe’s album. He’s done so much for the local music scene, especially writing and playing songs like that. Nice rocker form Raph Worrick and the gang. Classic VT song from Chin. Yet another great song from Rabbit’s new album Red Flannel Hash. Recently, there was a band who played a bunch of shows then just stopped. I’m missing them and feeling a little lacking, like maybe i need to take some vitamins or something.

21.) Vitamin Dee – Persian Claws
22.) Medula Mamblongata – Strung Out
23.) Scattered Birds – Aaron Flinn
24.) The Feeling – Vedora

Killer new song from the second Vedora album. If you liked the whistling on Birds, go check out Aaron next Wednesday at Red Square. Killer song form the classic VT band. I feel a bit better after that shot of Vitamin Dee, I hope you do too. I saw this next band twice last Thursday. They played Summervale, I left then did the show and walked into Light Club Lamp Shop just as they were about to go on. Both shows were great but the later one was out of this world. Here’s a couple of their songs.

25.) Honor Of The Rainbows part 1 & 2 – Arc Iris
26.) Somewhere Far – The Red Telephone
27.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. I might be off next week seeing the Decemberists but we can to it the week after that, and the week after that…..
