Song before: Russian Autumn Heart – The Church Band
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Jazzfest kicks off tomorrow in Burlington, so I’ve got a bit of jazz lined up, but the main part of the show will be to go deeper into the albums of a few bands I’ve been playing recently. It seems like I have played one song by a bunch of bands and said that I would have to check them out more. We will do that tonight. However, considering the date, I have to begin with a different song. Today is the second of June, so let’s begin with this:
1.) Last Day Of May – The Red Telephone
2.) Farside – Villanelles
3.) Sometime Next Year – 1881
4.) The Blackout – The Static Age
I love that song by Static and just have to pull it out and play now and then. Another cool song from 1881. I may have to check them out live sometime soon. Great song from Villanelles new album Blue Heart Attack, which had a great write up in Seven Days this week. Great song from Telephone. OK, here is the next song on Callisto.
5.) Flicker Flutter – Alpenglow
6.) Break – Slingshot Dakota
7.) Empty Frequency – Rue M. (Rue Mevlana)
8.) Last Love – Myra Flynn Music
Myra will kick off Jazzfest at The Skinny Pancake on Friday. I just love the energy that Rue put into a song and a show. Another gorgeous song from Slingshot. If you hadn’t noticed, I played their entire Break album song for song for the last 9 weeks. Break is the last song on the album. Flicker is the second to last song on Callisto. I will play the last one next week, then start another album the week after that. OK, it’s Jazzfest. Let’s play some jazz.
9.) NoRoomForSquares – Sneakers Jazz Band
10.) My Hero, The Enemy – Gregory Douglass
11.) Now That You Are Gone – Francesca Blanchard
Another great song from Francesca’s deux visions album. Great song from Gregory. So many great jazz players used to play at Sneakers. This next song is a great song that I do not play often enough.
12.) What’s In California? – Joshua Glass Music
13.) Who’s Fault Was That? – The Snaz
14.) Barstool Blues – Seth Yacovone Band
15.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
Great song from David and the band. Killer cover of the Neil Young song from Seth. The Snaz just rock. I love the Josh song. OK, Let’s play a song from Vetica from an album they put out after breaking up. This is a song from the Songs In The Key Of V album.
16.) Distance – Vetica
17.) Green Apple Girl – Dave Jarvis
18.) Blue Lights – Sink or Swim
19.) Mush – Phantom Suns
Great rocker from Phantom. I have to get out and catch them soon. Same for Sink. I love that Dave song from the ’90’s. I miss Vetica. OK, let’s let the music get a little scary for a while.
20.) Devil Knows My Name – Great Western
21.) Raising The Dead – Carraway
22.) Ninjas VS Zombies – Phil Yates
Such a fun song from Phil. Great song from Carraway. Same for Western. Here is a new song from a band I’ve been meaning to check out more.
23.) Sunshine – Apartment 3
24.) High Water Mark – The Pants
I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
