Song before: Bury My Lovely – October Project

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Usually, I start out a little mellow and work my way up into a maelstrom. Let’s change that tonight and start rocking now.

1.) This Town – Suburban Samurai
2.) Betty Rage – Doll Fight
3.) Willow I & II – Tyler Daniel Bean

Great music from Tyler and the band. There is a wonderful video for Willow II that speaks about depression. If you ever feel that way, please reach out to friends. We care more than you might realize. Another reason to play i & II is to celebrate Tyler’s new shop called Willow’s Bagels. I’ve enjoyed my two visits. Great rockers from Fight and Samurai. OK, so last week I finished playing Engine by Kelly Ravin. Tonight we begin the trek through The Uncanny Doom Service.

4.) The Curse Of The Doom Service – Doom Service
5.) Imaginary – Envy
6.) Sugar Coated Candy Stix – Dino Bravo VT
7.) Paper Train – David L Jarvis

That’s a classic from the ’90’s. Fun rocker from Dino, that song was recorded last year. Envy were an amazing part of the local music scene in the ’90’s. Great song, and album, by Doom. So, Envy had two great singer songwriter guitar players named Sean Toohey and Matt Hutton. They went on to form The Red Telephone and the duo will play a show at Radio Bean on Saturday at 7pm. They recorded an interview with Mike Luoma this afternoon that will be broadcast on WBKM tomorrow around 1pm. Let’s dive in and listen to some of their music.

8.) Pennsylvania – The Red Telephone
9.) Jet Pilot High – The Red Telephone
10.) Bionic – The Red Telephone
11.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
12.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
13.) I Don’t Know What To Believe – The Red Telephone

Bionic was from the album they did after getting signed to Warner Brothers. Believe is about getting dropped from the label and going out on your own. Jet is the first song on their solo EP Aviation. Pennsylvania is from the Cellar Songs album, as is Teenage. Today is from the Places You Return album that came out a couple of years ago. I’m so happy to see them play on Saturday. OK, this next artist is at Foam Brewers tomorrow.

14.) Mama – Ivamae
15.) Strings – Binger
16.) Sandblaster – The High Breaks
17.) Detective Norman – Sad Turtle

Turtle will be at the Bean after the Hutton Toohey Disaster on Saturday. The Breaks will be at Foam on Saturday. Binger will play BCA on Wednesday. This next band played a cool show last week.

18.) Plague Bearer – Wolfhand
19.) Space Weed Zombies – Wave of the Future
20.) Carnage – Black Rabbit
21.) Signal Loss – Zeus Springsteen

Zeus and the Rabbit will be at The Monkey House on Saturday. I thought it would be fun to play the zombie song since Turtle, Wolfhand and Wave share band members. OK, let’s keep rocking.

22.) Everything You Say And Do – Bison
23.) Simpsons – J Bengoy
24.) My New Mix Tape – Eef
25.) Today Is Mine – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

Great new song from the Book Of Zoo album. David and the band will soon launch their noble quest to encourage literacy and support libraries. Super fun song from Eef and interesting advice about how to watch the Simpsons. Bison are so much fun. OK, let’s keep on with more beautiful music.

26.) Middlesex – SWALE
27.) Poem for Torin/Ethan Is Stoned – Peg Tassey MUSIC
28.) Even The Clouds Get High – James Kochalka
29.) Grandma Betty’s Good Time Smoking Weed – Brother Zag.

The Brother seldom plays out but now and then you might hear a random guitar play through the old north end. Fun song from James and classic from Peg. We wish you well Peg, get better soon. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song before: Joan Crawford – Blue Oyster Cult

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been another cold and warm and clear and snowy week in Vermont. That does not stop us from doing what we do. I want to dedicate this first song to Rich Haskell and anyone who likes to get in their car and drive, no matter what.

1.) Driving All Alone – Danny LeFrancois
2.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
3.) Silence Kills – Secret Heliotropes
4.) I’ll get Wise – Anachronist

Great song from the central Vermont band. I’d seen Heliotropes listed on show bills but have never seen them. That may have to change. Great songs by David and Danny. OK, last week I finished the last song on Shovel Down so now I need to play a new album, song after song, week after week until it’s done. Let’s begin with the title song from the new album by Kat Wright Official

5.) By My Side – Kat Wright
6.) Last Love – Myra Flynn Music
7.) Secret – Madaila
8.) Freak Out Friday – Rue M.

Rue pop up now and then to help us dance dramatically. Great song from Madaila. Myra is a true treasure. So are Kat and the band, as you will hear over the next several weeks. OK, let’s keep the flow going.

9.) Unveiled – Pours
10.) Strings – Binger
11.) Gazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
12.) The Revenge Of Vera Gemini – The Contrarian

Casey Merlin Rae used to sing in bands and write about music in town and was just back a couple of weeks ago to sing for the Rocketsled reunion. He was good friends with Sandy Pearlman and just put out an album of Blue Oyster Cult covers. That was one of them. Great new song from Mountain from the upcoming Golden Landfill album. Great songs from Binger and Pours. Since I just played a cover song, I think I will continue for the next set.

13.) Paint It Black – Silver Bridget
14.) Breathe – Ninja Custodian
15.) Is It My Body? – Peg Tassey MUSIC
16.) ETI (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) – The Contrarian

I just had to play another Contrarian song. Classic cover of the Alice Cooper song by Peg. Ninja always did some fun covers. That’s a great take on Pink Floyd. Great cover of the Rolling Stones song by Bridget. So, The Snaz just released a new album called Sensitive Man.

17.) Spit N’ Fluff – The Snaz
18.) We’re Closed – Blue Button
19.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS
20.) This Ain’t The Summer Of Love – The Contrarian.

The Francis song has the line about I thought it was the summer of love so I had to play another Contrarian song. Francis will play Higher Ground tomorrow and Blue Button will open. I just got back from doing my local music radio show on internet only WBKM.org, and seeing Arc Iris at Light Club Lamp Shop right after. On my show I highlighted some of the music happening in town this week and the big Neil Young show coming up Sunday in Essex. Of course, I highlighted it with local bands doing Neil. As for Arc Iris, they were great this afternoon at Summervale and simply stunning tonight at the Lamp Shop.

Songs before: Canadian Cowboy – Arc Iris
Hey Hey, My My – Neil Young and Crazy Horse

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s summertime and there are sunflowers everywhere. Twilight has fallen upon the city and there is music in the air. Kat Wright and the band are playing Battery Park this evening and Arc Iris played at the Intervale festival this afternoon. I caught most of Arc’s set and it was just fantastic. So delicate and precise and majesticly angelic. Some of the subtleties were lost in the audience’s lack of focus, but for those of us who listened, it was magical. Music is like that. It’s so powerful and fulfilling and then just evaporates. Some music only exists when the band is playing it and is never recorded. From then on, it lives only as a memory. This is a song that it could have happened to, but happily the band recorded it and just released it. I’m so happy to be able to play it whenever I want now. This is Sober by Vedora on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) Sober – Vedora
2.) Good Medicine – Swale
3.) Powderfinger – Seth Yacovone Band

Seth and the band played a show of all Neil Young songs last year at the WBKM birthday party, and I’m psyched to have a recording of it. A lot of people are excited about Neil coming to town on Sunday. Swale played a killer version of that last Friday at Nectar’s including the killer guitar solo. Hmmm, Vedora. This next band are at The Monkey House tomorrow.

4.) Nothing To Prove – Vows
5.) Bare Trees – Vedora
6.) Hustle – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
7.) Lost On Me – Arc Iris

They were great this afternoon and I can’t wait to see them again after this show. I’ll likely miss the beginning of the show, but catch what I can. I could hear a tiny bit of Kat and the band as I walked downtown, and they always sound great. Another killer song from the new Vedora album that was recorded at Signal Kitchen. Eastern Mountain Time are releasing an album tomorrow but I could not find any of their music. Here are the other two bands who are playing with them.

8.) I got A Job – Maryse Smit
9.) Might As Well Settle – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
10.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
11.) Summertime – Peg Tassey MUSIC

A couple of great songs from Burlington’s illustrious ’90’s. Sean from Eastern opened for Phil Yates when he released his album, so it’s nice the Affiliates are returning the favor. Ok, here comes the next song on JV, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week.

12.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
13.) Double Line – Black Rabbit
14.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains
15.) Black And Red – ROUGH FRANCIS

Francis played a killer show at Nectar’s with Swale and Plains. I was elated to finally see HP. I loved their first song but Womb is the one I’ve been walking around with in my head. Killer new Rabbit song. OK, let’s play another new Vedora song.

16.) Floating – Vedora
17.) Cowgirl In The Sand – Seth Yacovone Band

Killer version of the Neil classic. This next band are kicking off their summer tour Saturday at Radio Bean.

18.) Sequoia I – Binger
19.) Who’s Fault Was That? – The Snaz
20.) Showdown At The Blue Moon Hotel – Jerichovox
21.) Sequoia III – Binger

If you go to the Binger show, be ready to dance, for a long time. Killer song from Vox. They will be at the Monkey House on Wednesday. The Snaz are at Nectar’s on Saturday playing an early show at 7. OK, let’s go back to the ’80’s for a killer Neil Young cover.

22.) Cinnamon Girl – Ninja Custodian
23.) Down By The River->Like A Hurricane – The Seth Yacovone Band.

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we?

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. Life in Burlington has seen a ton of rain and lots of sunny beautiful days, or parts of days. This is a song from the early 2000’s from a band from Rutland. This song has been playing in my head a lot lately, so now I’m going to play it for you. This is If I Go by Will on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) If I Go – Will
2.) Waiting For You – Swale
3.) Think I’ll Go – Great Western
4.) Precious Time – The Cush

The Cush built their first album in Texas then moved to Vermont for a few years. I saw as many shows as I could and that is such a great song. Killer song from Western. Hopefully, they have new stuff coming soon. That’s such a fun Swale song and sounded as good coming out of the Will song as I hoped. This next singer is playing this weekend in Hinesburgh at the Northern Sun Music Festival with a bass player and drummer. I bet it will rock.

5.) Scattered Birds – Aaron Flinn
6.) Einstein-Rosen Bridge – Jeremy Gilchrist
7.) The Whole – Milton Busker
8.) I Forgot – Maryse Smith

Maryse Smith is playing at Signal Kitchen tomorrow. What a great song. I have not caught up with Milton in a while, but hope to soon. Cool lyrics that make you think from Jeremy. Hopefully, I will get to see Aaron and his band really rock sometime soon. Like the first song in the set tonight, this song has been going through my head a lot lately.

9.) The Territory – Hana Zara
10.) Let It Shine – Rachel Brown
11.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
12.) In The Rain – Plan B

It’s been raining like crazy lately and was supposed to rain today. No sign of it yet, it’s really been a beautiful day. I’ve always loved that Dave song. Rachel used to unleash her killer voice in this town a lot. OK, it’s time for the next song on JV, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. It will be released July 27 when they play The Monkey House.

13.) Iron And Metal – The Mountain Says No
14.) Bomb – Envy
15.) Original Original – Black Rabbit
16.) Weapons Factory – The Wards

Classic song from the band that lead the punk wave in Burlington back in the ’80’s. Killer new Rabbit song! Killer classic from Envy. Sean Toohey and Ann Mindell who played in that band are in a new band called The Nancy Druids. Definitely check them out when they play Radio Bean a couple of Monday’s from now. Hmmm, Mountain. OK, let’s keep on playing some recent Burlington punk music.

17.) Planning My Funeral – Poxy
18.) Black Oil – Doom Service
19.) Asphyxia – Better Things
20.) Blue Lights – As We Were
21.) MSP2 – ROUGH FRANCIS

If you want a heavy rock band, you could not do better than Rough Francis. They are at Higher Ground tonight opening for Bad Religion. As play it fast and hard and fun and I’ve loved the couple of times I’ve seen them. Better keep writing music and playing shows and I cant’ wait to see where they go next. Doom always rock hard. I miss Poxy. This next artist used to play all the time in Burlington. She’s coming back for a visit. Will she play a show? I hope so.

22.) Vicarious – Alice Austin
22.) Sequoia II – Binger
23.) These Are Some Things – When Particles Collide
24.) Stop – REDadmirial

I’ve got to get out and see admiral. They are playing the Northern Sun Music Festival too, but I have to work on Saturday and Sunday I’m meeting Mom and Dad and Ken for a Father’s Day lunch then heading to Montreal to see Rush with Ken. Killer song from Particles who are on the road now. Go check them out! Cool song form Binger. It’s almost the Solstice and the longest day of the year. It makes me feel like this song.

25.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker
26.) Don’t Cough Me Out – Slowdim
27.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica
28.) Relief – Death World Wide

Killer song from the bands new album N.E.W. Love that Vetica song. Killer song from Slowdim. I’d love someone to bring that Boston band to town. Sarah’s on the road. Check her out if she comes to your town! I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from from doing my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. Considering how I placed the songs tonight I likely should have used The Old And They Young by MIDLAKE BAND as the song before, but considering the past couple of days, I had to use Flood of Sunshine.

Song before: Flood Of Sunshine – The Posies

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It’s a warm night and the last couple of days have felt like we just had spring for a few days, and now it feels like summer. This is Sarah Blacker on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker
2.) All The Kids – The New Siberians
3.) Our Work Is Never Done – PossumHaw
4.) The North – Hana Zara

I love the reference to the painted buildings in Burlington’s Old North End in that song. Great song from PossumHaw! That’s a super brand new song from Siberians. I’ve got the windows open and it feels like a warm summer night. This next artist used to be mayor of Burlington and now he’s running for President.

5.) We Shall Overcome – U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and thirty Vermont artists
6.) Destiny Waits – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds
7.) Sweet Angel – Robert Gagnon

Lovely song by Bob! Bud and Budd are such excellent guitar players. If you like the guitar, make sure you check them out sometime. Speaking of great guitar players you really should check out.

8.) New Atlantis – Aaron Flinn
9.) At The Diner – Zoot Wilson
10.) Evel Kinevel – Guppyboy
11.) Rocketsled’s Funky Main Man Meets Big Joe On Church Street – Phish & Richard Haupt.

Richard showed a lot of heart playing the clarinet on Church Street every day for years. It’s cool that Phish backed him up on that. Nice cover of the Chainsaws Of Babylon by Guppy. It almost had a Legend Of A Mind sweep to it. Killer song by Zoot. Aaron is playing at Radio Bean Tuesday at nine, if you want to check him out, and you really should if you can. So, speaking of Big Joe.

12.) Every Time I Hear That Mellow Saxophone – Big Joe Burrell & The Unknown Blues Band
13.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
14.) By My Side – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
15.) Glory Bound – Maryse Smith

Yet another great song from Maryse’s new album The Way It Is. Kat and the band are just so good. It’s not quite sunflower time yet, but there are tons of flowers blooming around town. Here is another cool new song.

16.) The Endless War – Jeremy Gilchrist
17.) Double Dare Ya – Steph Pappas
18.) Somebody Up There Loves Me – The Starline Rhythm Boys

23.) Yours Sincerely – Persian Claws
24.) Be A Good Citizen (NYC Mix) – Pinhead

Classic song with lots of good advice. The Claws are always fun! I’ve got to put in the effort to catch Admiral sometime soon. Classic from Ninja. This next artist has played tons of great shows for years and is getting a lifetime achievement award at Nectar’s tomorrow. It is extremely well deserved.

25.) Nighttime Fades – Seth Yacovone Band
26.) Film Called Life – Jer Coons
27.) How It Goes – Blue Button
28.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I highlighted some of the music that was played last week, some of the music that happened tonight and some of the many bands who are playing at different venues on Saturday. I also said goodbye to Lendway in a big way.

Song before: Aura – The Church Band

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. There was a lot of great music at Radio Bean last night, and there are a lot of great shows coming up. But, tonight I want to say goodbye to one of my favorite bands, Lendway. Michael Clifford is heading to California, but they did play a killer goodbye show at Nectar’s on Saturday. They were great, and rocked really hard, and had great harmonies, and I will miss them. It’s the end of the band, but ends always bring new beginnings. This is a beginning, always a beginning. This is Yardsale by Lendway on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) Yardsale – Lendway
2.) What’s In California? – Joshua Glass Music
3.) Showdown At The Blue Moon Hotel – Jerichovox
4.) The Way It Is – Maryse Smith

I was hoping Maryse was going to play live in the studio tonight. Unfortunately, something came up and she was not able to make it. Hopefully she will stop by sometime soon. She will play at Radio Bean on Saturday at 9. Unfortunately, I already got tickets for Barbacoa and Rough Francis that night, so will miss that, and all the other shows on Saturday. I went out to the Bean last night and finally saw Jerichovox. I had a really good time and they played a solid version of Hotel. I had to put in the Josh song after the Lendway song. That’s not a jab, it’s just the way it is. OK, on to the next song on Swale’s album The Next Instead.

5.) Before The Night – Swale
6.) I’m Thrilled – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
7.) Two Sleepy Arms – Lendway

I love that song. Phil is releasing his new album No Need To Beg on Saturday at New City Gallery on Church st. It’s happening the same time as the Higher Ground Rough Francis show. Rats. Black Rabbit are playing that show too, acoustic. Really?? Phil’s album came out Tuesday but the party is Saturday. Great Swale song. OK, let’s rock.

8.) Venus In Spurs – Barbacoa
9.) Not A Nice Guy – ROUGH FRANCIS
10.) Asphyxia – Better Things
11.) Definitions – As We Were

After Jerichovox played last night, Better Things came on and rocked hard and As We Were followed and really let loose. Despite everything I will miss on Saturday, I’m very excited to see Francis and Barbacoa! My brother is coming along. Black Rabbit acoustic? Really? They always rock hard. Here they are rocking hard.

12.) Mark My Words – Black Rabbit
13.) Terrarium – Vedora
14.) You’re Safe With Us – Lendway

I love that song. Vedora are playing Radio Bean on Saturday after Maryse. I really need to be 3 people that night. Come on Dan Bolles, haven’t you cloned me yet? I could really use it for Saturday! So, tonight Joe Adler, Aaron Flinn, Michael Chorney, and Eric George are playing songs and telling stories at the Skinny Pancake. Here’s one of Joe’s songs.

15.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler
16.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
17.) Gone With Eraser – Lendway

Another great song. Great song from Dave. I’m sure the show at the Pancake is lots of fun. Here’s a song from Aaron.

18.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
19.) Ghost Train – Jerichovox
20.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things.

Things played a wicked fast version of that last night at the Bean. Jericho played a great version of train last night. Hey, did you notice I didn’t play any Lendway in that last set?

21.) Take Your Gold Away – Lendway
22.) Gold In California – The Red Telephone
23.) Running Away From Home – The Snaz

I think the Snaz are the only band I’m playing tonight that I have not seen. I should fix that. Last week I played a new demo from the New Siberians and really liked it. Tonight, I will play one from their first album.

24.) Star – The New Siberians
25.) Hollywood – Lendway
26.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone

This is a beginning, always a beginning, and the end always equals the start. Thanks for all the great music Michael, Matthew Bryan Hagen, Todd Gevry, Kevin Lynam. California’s gain, is Vermont’s loss. Come back anytime Michael. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a cold night in Burlington but a few intrepid souls are out and about and not letting it get them down. Here is a song I got a couple of days ago, but have been enjoying live for a few months now. This is Burn It Down Bernadette by Phil Yates & The Affiliates on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Burn It Down Bernadette – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
2.) Blue Light Blue – Heavy Plains
3.) Blue Light Shines – Gabrielle Douglas and the Dwellers

I love that song and had to play it out of the Plains song. That’s another new song from Luke Awtry‘s new band. Great song by Phil Yates. I’m so happy to have new songs of theirs. Let’s play the next song on Many Things & Many Scenes. This is one of my favorites.

4.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler
5.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western
6.) This Land Is Your Land – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont musicians

Nice reggae feel to the Woody Guthrie classic. I think about the idea of pluralism we strive for in the United States and many other countries. It’s terrible when someone uses violence to try and silence an artistic voice. The response to the killings in Paris have been some incredible works of art that will touch millions of souls. The picture of the pencil with the words “This Machine Kills Fascists”, which is what Woody had written on his guitar, really hit me. The great part about art is it does not kill people, just bad ideas. Senator Sanders wages peace, so that is why I played that song. I love that song from Western!!! Last Saturday I made it out to The Monkey House and saw great sets from Black Rabbit and Dino Bravo VT. The Mountain Says No did a stunning job opening the show, but they don’t have anything recorded yet so I can’t play any of their songs. Instead, I’ll play a song from the soundtrack of Ben Maddoxs underwater adventures.

7.) Straight Outta Kill Kare – I See Fish People
8.) Always Monica/Down At The Duck (live) – Chin Ho!
9.) No Way – Phantom Suns

I’ve really got to get to know Suns better. Great song. Classic couple of songs from the mighty Chin Ho! This next song has been running through my head a lot, so I’ll play it again.

10.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things
11.) I-90 East – ROUGH FRANCIS
12.) Freakin Out – Death World Wide

I’m so psyched about the show at the Flynn with Death, Francis and others. It’s going to rock! Sometimes the news gets too heavy. I mean you need to stay informed, but after a certain amount of understanding the world, sometimes you need a distraction.

13.) Distraction – When Particles Collide
14.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids
15.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine
16.) Bionic – The Red Telephone

Love the lyric in the RT song. I was feeling fired up the other day and had it running through my head. They used to rock Burlington with that one. Great song from Julia Austin and Alice Austin from the days after Zola Turn. Can’t waif for the new Kids album. Great song from Particles. This band seem to play for a while, go quiet for a while then play again. They’re around and this is a cool song.

17.) Parking Lot – Villanelles
18.) All Around – Hover
19.) Let The World Turn – Death.

I hope they play that one when they play the Flynn! Great song from Brad Searles old band. I love this next song, and love the live version just a little bit more.

20.) TFAY (live) – Elephants of Scotland
21.) Ornan’s Song – The Dirty Blondes
22.) 1.21 Jigawats – Wave of the Future

Love that song. Their guitar player plays drums for Mountain Says No and it was cool that most of Wave came to the show to support him. Ornan McLean plays drums for the Blondes and Elephants. OS was dedicated to my brother Ken who loves that song. Earlier today I asked for requests and got four. I’ll have to hold the Red Admiral until I’ve listened more but these next three are dedicated to Marc Scarano, David Jarvis Mark Crowther, and Kitty Kindbud.

23.) Flight Of The Alligator – Cave Bees
24.) Paper Train – Dave Jarvis
25.) You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a cool and snowy night in Burlington. We got 11 inches Wednesday but the roads and sidewalks are pretty passable. Thanks DPW! Tonight I’m going to alternate new and old songs to highlight the great talent in this town. Let’s start with a couple of songs from the soundtrack to some cool underwater Vermont videos. This is Maidstone by I See Fish People on WBKM and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Maidstone – I See Fish People
2.) Burette’s Green River – I See Fish People
3.) Deal – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds

Great guitar playing on the Dead cover. Lots of people in Vermont still love the Dead and The Buds played a killer version of that. Nice build in the middle! The Fish people CD just came out this week, and is as new as it gets. OK, let’s play another new song. Doug McAllister was in Ninja Custodian a long time ago and is now in California with a new band called Super Music Band.

4.) Not Everything Is About You – Super Music Band
5.) Monkey Business – Ninja Custodian
6.) Under Bright Stars – Alice Austin
7.) Seeds And Stems – The New Siberians

It really has been a while since the Siberians album came out. They should have something new soon, and I think Ryan Power is working on it. Great new song from Alice. That’s Doug singing the classic Ninja song. It was cool to hang out with Ted Pappadopoulos from the Siberians at Manhattan Pizza and Pub last Friday at the Black Rabbit show. Here is the last song on their EP Lipstick And Dynamite that I’m playing all the way through.

8.) Carnage – Black Rabbit
9.) Kick The Can – Cave Bees
10.) Time To Save The World – Carraway
11.) Medula Mamblongatta – Strung Out

I remember seeing them at the Chicken Bone Cafe. That was a while ago. Carraway just put out an excellent new EP. Classic from the Bees who have been in an out of the scene for a long time. Man those Rabbit shows with Jane Boxall Percussion on drums are getting really intense. Here’s a song that came out last year.

12.) Mirrors – Vetica
13.) No More Sex – Pinhead
14.) In Comes The Tide – PossumHaw

Great song from the Waiting and Watching album from earlier this year. Classic song from Pinhead. OK, let’s head back to the ’90’s for a great piece of music.

15.) Poem For Torin/Ethan’s Stoned – Peg Tassey MUSIC
16.) Eliza – Alpenglow
17.) Let It Shine – Rachel Brown

Rachel used to unleash her beautiful and powerful voice on us back in the ’90’s. Great new song from Alpenglow’s Chapel EP. Here’s another new song that I just love.

18.) 40 Days – Better Things
19.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
20.) Comm To Space – ROUGH FRANCIS

Francis just re-released the Maximum Soul Power Album this year on Riot House Records. Death was their fathers band, then Dannis and Bobby were in Lambsbread playing reggae when I got into the music scene. They rocked a bit harder before that. Up next is another classic rocker from the ’90’s.

21.) Decide – David L. Jarvis
22.) Before The Night – Swale
23.) Let Up – Construction Joe

It’s been a while since I thought of Joe and that is a great song. I love that Swale song! I want to dedicate this next song to the magnificent Joe Adler who just lost his father. Somehow I just know he’s up there looking down at Joe with lots of love.

24.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger
25.) Extended Werewolf – farm

There’s only so much time indeed. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we.

(yea, not my best ending!!)

Hey guys, Tim here for one more song. It’s a Fish song as always. He’s just played some killer shows and has some sold out ones coming up. Here’s the first song on the new album, A Feast Of Consequences. This is Perfume River by Fish, and even though he’s from Scotland, this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music on WBKM.

Song after: Perfume River – Fish
