Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG will run from 9-11pm Thursday October 25. You can stream it from the website or here: WBKM It will go as follows.

Song before: Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) – Concrete Blonde

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. The skies are gray, the air is cold and the leaves are falling from the trees. Summer is gone and Halloween is almost upon us. Usually, Mr E. Ghoul crosses over to join us, but the veil is still too strong, being so many days away. I, alone, will guide you through the terror that is the Vermont music scene. Let’s begin with a song about the dead.

1.) Stardust For Dessert – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
2.) Ghosts Aren’t Free – Ballroom Sofa
3.) Release The Dead – Chin Ho
4.) Ghosts – Troy Millette Music

Thank you for reminding us of our mortality Troy. I dug up that ancient song from Chin. Chilling thought from Sofa and beautifully disturbing song from David and the band. OK, let’s get a little magical.

5.) I Put A Spell On You – Kat Wright and Marco Benevento
6.) Devil – farm
7.) A Monster’s Holiday – Matt the Gnat and the Gators
8.) Devil Knows My Name – Great Western

Is there anything scarier than the devil knowing your name? Hmm, apparently the gators prefer to celebrate their monsters. Nice attempt to outrun the devil Farm. That was a lovely spell concocted one night at Radio Bean by the dynamic duo. Here is another song that I found deeply buried.

9.) Vampyre – Dave Jarvis (Hipp Notix)
10.) Oh My God – Sarah Blacker & New England Groove Association
11.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
12.) Graveyard Before Dark – Alice Austin

Such a scary song from Alice. Hana speaks of how the veil between the living and the dead is understood down south. Terrifying imagery from Sarah and a lovely oldie from Dave. Care to jam with some monsters?

13.) Halloween Jam – The Dead Shakers
14.) Nightmare On Elm Street – Savage Hen
15.) With The Dead – Vultures of Cult
16.) Full Moon Dark Places – Bull & Prairie

Vermont is full of dark places, and the shadows of the full moon only make them more terrifying. I fear the Vultures may have gotten too close to their song. Disturbing song from the Hen and a scary stream of monsters for the Dead. Speaking of death.

17.) Death Of A Barn Cat – Dirtminers
18.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit
19.) Hell Chicken – Swillbillie
20.) Dogs At The Door – Milton Busker

I hope you survived the terror of being alone, barely safe, wondering what lies beyond the door. Swillbillie are wise to make us aware of the terror wrought by chickens. Halloween was made for cats. OK, it’s time to panic.

21.) Panic – Miku Daza
22.) Ninjas VS Zombies – Phil Yates
23.) Ghostified – Persian Claws
24.) Raising The Dead – Carraway

Lovely song about zombies dancing. Terror filled song by the Claws. Phil sings of the battle between life and death and Miku rightly advises panic. This next soul seems to be trying to give up supernatural ways. Silly human.

25.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
26.) Demon Eyes – Lake Superior
27.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
28.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
29.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants of Scotland

You can always count on a ghost, even if Aaron disagrees. Lovely songs of demons from Crazy and Superior. Even one so contrary understands the power of the grave. Well, I hope you were not too scared listening to the terrifying music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

outro

Songs after – Incubus (with graveyard intro and geezabum outro) – Fish
Thugs – The Tragically Hip
Give It Up To The Night – Bad Smell
Hell Toupee – Derek Smalls

Heaven And Hell – Dio
Angels Of Death – Hawkwind

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM.ORG will run from 9-11pm US Eastern Time Thursday January 4th. It can be streamed from our website or here: WBKM It will go as follows.

Song before: A Dark Light – Aram Bedrosian

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s winter time and the cold and snow are here. We just cruised past New Year’s Day and are diving into 2018. Let’s fill it with art and compassion and music. Let’s begin with an artist who just released a new song for the new year.

1.) Maria – Francesca Blanchard
2.) Mama – Ivamae
3.) Stormy Day – Robin Gottfried
4.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

Andriana played a lovely show last Friday at Radio Bean and closed with that one. Robin Gottfried played a recent Thursday and I missed it but hopefully they will be back for a show I can attend soon. Ivamae played after Andriana last Friday. It was a great night. Great new song from Francesca. OK, here is the next song on Black, Blue, and White.

5.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians
6.) Raise Your Head – Gang of Thieves
7.) Happy New Year – Ninja Custodian
8.) Safe To Say – SWALE

I spent New Year’s Eve at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and Swale put on a wonderful show. Thieves closed the night by rocking hard. Great songs from Ninja and the Siberians. So, last night was a new episode of The X-Files and this song has been running though my head all week.

9.) The Invixibles – Black Rabbit
10.) You Will Fall – Kelly Ravin
11.) Boys Club – Peg Tassey MUSIC
12.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine

QT were Alice and Julia Austin‘s band after Zola Turn. They worked with Jeff Moxley who is now working with Peg to produce the upcoming album from Miriam Bernardo. I wanted to play the Peg song to remind us all that abuse of and predatory behavior are not just issues that effect large companies but also exist in our community. The local punk community is currently struggling to figure out the best way to deal with this and it’s great that they are trying. You want to encourage people who behave badly to improve but at what point will someone not change and you just have to cut ties. It’s a challenge that will hopefully create new spaces of acceptance and power for women. OK, great songs from Kelly and Rabbit. I saw Rabbit last Saturday with this next band.

13.) The Art Of Vandalay – Sad Turtle
14.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
15.) The Meanest Thing I’ll Ever Write – Milton Busker
16.) Pauses – Lowell Thompson and Crown Pilot

That’s Lowell with Bill Mullins, Kirk Flanagan, and Steve Hadeka and it’s such a cool song. Great song from Milton. He played a great version of it last week at Light Club Lamp Shop with his band The Grim Work. Great song from Abbie who is now in the band Hammydown. Turtle are so cool. OK, I’ve been watching X-Files and just got the new Twin Peaks so let’s play this song.

17.) Doppelganger – Lendway
18.) Judgment Day – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
19.) Fool That I Am – Eastern Mountain Time
20.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western

Western used to play rocking shows around town. Fun song from Eastern. Great new song from David and the band. Cool song form Lendway. This next band are at The Monkey House on Saturday.

21.) Let The Cold In – Mr. Doubtfire
22.) Heavy Winter Heavy Snow – My First Days On Junk
23.) Mush – Phantom Suns
24.) You’re The Target – Casey Merlin Rae

Nice rocker from Casey. Cool song from Ryan Cohen and his band. Great songs from Junk and Doubtfire. This was one of my first favorite prog bands who would come to town now and then.

25.) Hey Ernie – Cold Sweat
26.) Errol McSquisitor – Elephants of Scotland
27.) The Road – Anders Parker
28.) Mr Reed – Seth Yacovone Band

Great rocker from Seth. Anders and Cloud Badge are on the road this weekend. Classics from Elephants and Sweat. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week shall we?

From our small city to the great big world these are the Sounds Of Burlington. 10.) Ninjas Vs Zombies – Phil Yates

17.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants of Scotland
18.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn
19.) Raising The Dead – Carraway
20.) Nightmare On Elm Street Theme – Savage Hen

Savage created that little ditty one night at Robot Dog. Great imagery in the Carraway song. Hmmm, ghosts. OK, this next song is not about a ghost.

21.) Vampyre – David L Jarvis
22.) Hell Chicken – Swillbillie
23.) Halloween Jam – The Dead Shakers
24.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse

Great scary song from hearse. The Dead Shakers recorded that one at a session at Robot Dog recently. Gotta watch out for vampires and chickens from hell. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? Sayonara.

3.) Let Me Be – Peter Burton

Cricket are pretty amazing and are playing at Farnham Ale & Lager VT tomorrow at 7. Swale have a new album, There’s No One Here, coming out July 7th and we are all waiting for them. Song before: The Last Of The Unplucked Gems – The Tragically Hip

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to begin by thanking Higher Ground for sponsoring our station and for reuniting Rocketsled for a show on Saturday. Today is a historic day and tomorrow will be our first day with a new President. I hope this opening set fits our mood.

1.) Whole World Hangs – Anachronist
2.) This Machine – Invisible Homes
3.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
4.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

That’s a great song about protesting. We will likely need that a lot in the next few years. I want to send that out to all of the women who will march on Washington DC this weekend. Great song from Anders. Great Woody reference by Homes and great song from Anachronist. OK, here is the next song on Shovel Down.

5.) Mistake – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
7.) Storm Cloud – When Particles Collide
8.) The Circus – Cold Sweat

Sweat used to play at Texas and other clubs around VT and upstate NY. I wanted to play that one in response to the closing of the Ringling Brothers circus. Particles are playing at Manhattan Pizza and Pub on Saturday and always rock. Sean from RT now plays in The Nancy Druids and they were amazing last night at Radio Bean. Great song from Seth. OK, let’s keep rocking.

9.) Nicky Says – Black Rabbit
10.) Eggshell – The Mountain Says No
11.) Monsters Are Due – Doom Service
12.) Time To Get Out – Aaron Flinn and Salad Days

13.) Alone In The Night – Andriana Chobot
14.) When The Nights Get Long – Carraway
15.) Not Quite As Good – 1881
16.) This Isn’t Your Parade – Crazyhearse

Such a fun song from their Tordadic Beige album. Great new song from 1881’s Action EP. I love the huge sound on both the Carraway and Andriana songs. This next song is from a bunch of wonderful local artists who recorded this song to support the candidacy of Bernie Sanders.

17.) This Land Is Your Land – Various Artists
18.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 VT Artists
19.) Secret – Madaila
20.) You’ve Got Problems – Kat Wright

Great song from Kat and the band. Madaila likely have nothing to do with the band the Medallions who are playing at the oath of action day at The Skinny Pancake Burlington tomorrow but stop in and find out for yourself. Great message from Bernie and all the wonderful artists. OK, let’s rock.

21.) All My Life – Wide Wail
22.) Don’t Turn Back – Kelly Ravin
23.) The Summer Of Andy – The Cancer Conspiracy
24.) Tastes Like Nothing – Zola Turn

Zola and CC rocked us so well back in the 1990’s. Great new song from Kelly and old song from WW. This next artist is a constant inspiration to me.

I got a little extra organized and have tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM all lined up. It will run from 9-11pm US Eastern Time and will go as follows:

Song before: Alone – Children in Paradise

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. They have lots of shows happening this week and have Built to Spill playing tonight. Let’s begin tonight with some huge sweeping songs in honor of all of those people in our community who have huge sweeping hearts.

1.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
2.) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle
3.) If You Get Lost – SWALE
4.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

Cascade has such a huge luscious sound. Same for Lost. Swale will be playing Saturday at The Monkey House with The Nancy Druids. Sean from the Druids also plays in Telephone so it’s going to be a great night of music. I will be out of town, but more on that later. Great song from Hero. On a more somber note, this week the Burlington community lost one of it’s funniest and most treasured people. I loved all the wry posts that Mike McGonegal shared with us and I got to meet and hang out with him a few weeks back at a Silver Bridget show. I’m going to play three of their instrumental songs to pay a quiet tribute to Mike, and to all of the people who have left this life. I invite you to join me.

5.) Old Man – Silver Bridget
6.) She’s Leaving Home – Silver Bridget
7.) Harvest Moon – Silver Bridget

It was fun seeing them that night and having Mike help me identify which song they were playing. He will be greatly missed by our community. Since we are in a contemplative mood, let’s play the next song from the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. Here is the next one from Song For My Double.

8.) Contemplating The Ivory – Invisible Homes
9.) Little Monster – Strange Machines
10.) What If – Madaila
11.) What If – REDadmiral

I had to play those two back to back. They are obviously quite different songs. Machines will be at Nectar’s tomorrow. Homes play so many great styles of music. That’s a song from Madaila’s new album Traces. Admiral are at The Monkey House Tonight. So is this next band.

12.) Ninjas Vs Zombies – Phil Yates
13.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
14.) Emerald – Ace Frehley
15.) Hey Ernie – Cold Sweat

When I was younger some friends and I would drive all over Vermont and New York to go see Sweat. We’d see them in Glens Falls and Clifton Park and places like that. I have tickets with my brother Ken to see Ace on Saturday in Clifton Park, NY so that should be fun. I believe that Lizzy cover is in the setlist. Great rocker from Mountain and fun song from Phil. I saw this next band last week at Foam Brewers

16.) Medieval Knieval – Barbacoa
17.) Say It – Anachronist
18.) Falter – Chin Ho
19.) Green Apple Girl – David Jarvis

It sounds like Dave is getting the band back together soon. Great classic from Chin. Great song from Anachronist. Barbacoa always rock. OK, let’s keep rocking.

20.) Sally – Daniel Waterhouse (Dan Murphy)
21.) Windigo – Crazyhearse
22.) The Day I Met You – Dirtminers
23.) A Different Machine – Elephants of Scotland

Great rocker from Elephants, who are really from VT. Great rockers from Dirt and Crazy and cool song from Dan. OK, there’s just a little bit of time left. Let’s keep rocking.

24.) 88 – Wave of the Future
25.) 22R – Cave Bees
26.) Black, Blue and White – The New Siberians
27.) I Am Sunday – The Red Telephone

I thought I’d end where I began. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Songs after: Internal Exile Medley (Big Bus) – Fish
Against The Rain – TILT
Butts Wigglin’ – The Tragically Hip

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s very dark and almost time for Halloween, so tonight I will play some spooky scary songs. This is the time of year when the line between our world and the world beyond is very thin. I usually invite my friend from beyond, Mr E. Ghoul, to join me, but it’s just a little too early and the line between our worlds is still to far to cross. Yes, he is having an issue with Incarnation Dysfunction. There are several ways ghouls can cross into our world. Let’s begin with one of the more fun vehicles.

1.) Voodoo Camaro – Wide Wail
2.) Crazy Hearse – Barbacoa
3.) With The Dead – Vultures of Cult
4.) Oh My God – Sarah Blacker

Nice tale of angels and devils from Sarah. She lives in Salem, MA but comes up to Vermont to haunt us now and then. Fun, seasonally appropriate song from Vultures. Some souls prefer to travel in the crazy hearse and some the voodoo camaro. It’s just matter of choice. Up next, is one of the scariest concepts that mortals can deal with, sarcasm.

5.) I’m Thrilled – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
6.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
7.) Funeral – Dirtminers
8.) Raising The Dead – Carraway
9.) Ninjas VS Zombies – Phil Yates

Such fun tales of terror from Phil and Carraway. Funeral is a cool song from the Miners. Great song from Hana. Hopefully, she will come back and play for us sometime in the near future. Phil and the band will be at The Skinny Pancake tomorrow and will play a set of Elvis Costello and one of their own. They are one of every band in town who is playing in the next couple of days. This is a great song from a classic Burlington artist.

10.) Graveyard Before Dark – Alice Austin
11.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
12.) Gothic Bloodsucker – Zola Turn
13.) Vampyre – Dave Jarvis Band

Classic from Burlington’s ’90’s. The Zola song is from the first album. Killer tune from Casey Merlin Rae who was a writer and musician in town for many years. So, we’ve heard songs about specific beasts like zombies and vampires, so here is one about the generic category of monsters.

14.) Monsters Are Due – Doom Service
15.) Monsters – Cold Sweat
16.) A Place Both Beautiful And Strange – Vultures Of Cult
17.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse

Killer doom and gloom song from hearse. I love the moody instrumental from Cult. Sweat make the point that monsters don’t have to be supernatural. Great new Doom song. Let’s now turn our sights to magic for a song recorded at the Radio Bean

18.) I Put A Spell On You – Marco Benevento and Kat Wright
19.) Devil – farm
20.) The Death Of Tim Lewis (poem read over the end of Devil and beginning of Devil Knows) – Tim Lewis
21.) Devil Knows My Name – Great Western

Killer version of their new song recorded live at Nectar’s. Great song by Farm about the struggles in life. Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band will be at Nectar’s on Saturday. This song is about a bar that burned down and people died and their ghosts still reside.

22.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit
23.) Ghostified – Persian Claws
24.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things
25.) Ghost Train – Jerichovox

I love the spooky sound of that song. Ghoul called me and let me know some ghosts prefer to take the train to the other side, not just a car. That one is dedicated to him. Killer song from Better. Great rocker from Persian. This next band weren’t around long but played some solid shows.

26.) Planning My Funeral – Poxy
27.) Space Weed Zombies (live) – Wave of the Future
28.) JC And The Beast – The Mountain Says No
29.) Children Of The Grave – Jesus Christ and the Hallucinogenic Allstars

Killer cover of the Sabbath song from the Saratoga NY band who come to town now and then. Mountain and Wave will play at Finnegan’s tomorrow at 10. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, and that it didn’t scare you too much. Goodbye. Sayonara.

30.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It’s a beautiful night in Burlington I went 20 days without seeing any live music, due to an odd series of unfortunate circumstances, but finally made it out to Radio Bean last Monday to see The Nancy Druids. They are very new so I don’t have any of their music, but if you listen to the first two songs, you can get an idea. This is Today Is Tomorrow by The Red Telephone on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.)Today Is Tomorrow – The Red Telephone
2.) Still Life Scene – Envy
3.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
4.) Original Original – Black Rabbit

Great new song from Rabbit! They got the mighty Jane Boxall Percussion to play drums on their new album and recorded 11 songs. It will be called Red Flannel Hash and should come out on June 23rd. I’m so psyched, though I”m quite sad that Jane has left for Nashville. Come back any time!! We’ll miss you. Killer new song from Mountain. I can’t wait until they release their album! Did I mention that I loved the Nancy Druids and can’t wait to get to know their songs!. OK, let’s keep rocking through the Swale album The Next Instead.

5.) Jack Sharp – Swale
6.) Burn It Down Bernadette – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
7.) Fades To Grey – Aram Bedrosian
8.) Breakout – Sarah Blacker

Killer new song from Sarah’s album In Waves which came out Monday or Tuesday or so. She will be at the Skinny Pancake tomorrow at 7. I work until 7 but will head down as quick as I can to see how much I can see. There are some really nice songs on her new album and she sings the heck out of them! Killer new all bass only song from Aram. Love the Phil song. So, I think I want to head to the Pancake tomorrow to see Sarah then will head back to the Bean to see Rough Francis! How cool is that.

9.) MSP2 – ROUGH FRANCIS
10.) Sugar Coated Candy Stix – Dino Bravo VT
11.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains
12.) Where Is My Mind? – The Pixies

The Pixies are in town tonight at The Flynn Theatre. I think almost everyone I know is going, but I’m here to do this show for you. Plains are on the top of my list of bands I have not seen that I really need to check out! The played Saturday with Vedora, but it was one of those bad timing missing shows things. Soon. Dino are playing at Metronome around 10:30 so I may head over after this show. OK, I’m going to play some classic old school Burlington music, but to take us there, this is the Vacant Lots.

13.) 6Am – THE VACANT LOTS
14.) Amazon – Kilimanjaro
15.) South Wind – Gordon Stone
16.) Hot Water – Pine Island

Since Pine Island are named in my intro it’s about time I played them. Nice song from Gordon. I remember seeing Kilimanjaro a long time ago and loving how smooth and elegant that they always were. I saw this guy recently when he opened for April Wine a couple of times at Higher Ground.

17.) Axe To Grind – Nobby Reed
18.) Another Round – The Eames Brothers
19.) Gothic Bloodsucker – Zola Turn
20.) Giant Mosquitoes – Cold Sweat

Sweat used to play Texas, which became Club Toast, KD Churchills, and others. I think it’s the Zen Lounge now and I think they do music again. It’s the beginning of mosquito season so I had to play the sweat song and the Zola song. Killer stuff by Nobby and Eames. Here’s another song from Sarah’s new album

21.) This Melody – Sarah Blacker
22.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
23.) The Cure (live) – Thompson Gunner
24.) Decide – David L. Jarvis

It was great to run into Dave at the Druids show. Thanks for the painting! Killer song from the Rutland band. Abbie will be at Nectar’s on Saturday. Hmmm, Sarah. This band just played a show that I missed on Saturday and will have a new album of songs, with Jane Boxall drumming, soon. Sob, we’ll miss you Jane!

25.) Low Down M2 – Vedora
26.) Deadly Wires – Ryan Ober
27.) Wisps and Watercolors – Sarah Blacker
28.) Extended Werewolf – farm

There’s only so much time indeed/ Yet another killer new Sarah song. Ryan is at Nectar’s on Saturday too. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. It’s the day before Halloween so I played lots of scary songs and let Mr E. Ghoul speak about energy, spirits, mortality and what lies beyond.

Songs before:Please Mr Gravedigger – David Bowie (Official)
End Of the World – Gary Moore with Jack Bruce on bass and vocals

intro

Good evening, it is I, Mr E. Ghoul, here to play the substance that you quaintly call music for you this evening. The one you refer to as Tim has again this year lent me his body so that I may incarnate for two of your earthly hours. I have scary songs lined up to challenge your perceptions of what is in your reality and what is the reality beyond. Let’s begin with a ride on the crazy hearse. This is Barbacoa on WBKM and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Crazy Hearse – Barbacoa
2.) Demon Moon – Crazyhearse
3.) Demons – Waylon Speed
4.) Monsters – Cold Sweat
5.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit

That song was about the Black Cat Cafe, a place on Bank Street in Burlington, that burned in the 1970’s. People transferred from your mortal world to the spiritual one in the blast. Last week Tim played the last song on the Row EP from Anachronist. He will now play Lipstick and Dynamite all the way through, song by song, week after week, Black Cat was the first song. Nice tale of all the monsters in the world from the Syracuse band. Scary supernatural songs from Waylon and Crazyhearse. People died in the Black Cat fire but that is part of your mortal cycle. More cats will be born.

6.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids
7.) Nosferatu – The Lestons
8.) Vampyre – David L. Jarvis

Scary song from Dave and a nice homage to one of the first times you learned dance energy and to move pictures and made something that can shift your emotions, to this day. I hope you weren’t too scared of the Kids tale of monsters in the closet. Let us now look west and take a trip through the graveyard.

9.) Graveyard Before Dark – Alice Austin
10.) Our Lady Of The Underground – Anais Mitchell
11.) Death – Ccccome!
12.) Dogs At The Door – Milton Busker

Such a scary tale of imminent doom from the mortal you call Milton. It is only your understanding of yourself as a part of your body that you fear the dogs and death. Despite the scary title, death is just the transformation from this realm to the next, and it contains beautiful irony in that the author is so full of life. That was a nice tale of digging into your subconscious through the power of myth by Anais. One night at Radio Bean Marco Benevento and Kat Wright put a spell on their audience. This is a recording of the event.

13.) I Put A Spell On You – Marco Benevento and Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band (just Kat but I left the name for the FB tag)
14.) Devil – farm
15.) Dragnet – Vedora
16.) Violence – Peg Tassey MUSIC

Ah yes, Halloween is a night to try on a new costumes and personas. Peg has donned the costume of Alice Cooper, as Violence is really Is It My Body. It’s funny because Alice Cooper is the costume of Vincent Furnier, and on it goes. Vedora speak well of the forces of attraction and forces are all that exist in the spiritual world. That was a frightening tale of Farm and the Devil, but it came out OK in the end. Up next is a song about masks and ghosts and blood.

17.) Lithuania – Hana Zara
18.) Masquerade For A Heartache – The Starline Rhythm Boys
19.) Giving Up The Ghost – Aaron Flinn and Salad Days
20.) Ghost – Phish
21.) Killing Ghosts – Better Things

Silly mortals, you cannot kill a ghost. Nice ghostly tales from Phish and Aaron Flinn. That energy transference that you call love is a powerful force. It sometimes requires a mask. Here is another band who play Burlington now and then, and they are wearing a mask.

22.) Children Of The Grave – JCHA
23.) One More Grave – The Contrarian
24.) Knight ov Swords – The Contrarian
25.) Ghostified – Persian Claws

It is time to return this mortal body to Tim. I hope you enjoyed my stories of your side and the other. Come back next week when Tim will continue to help you check out the music of this town, and perpetually do it again next week.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I love to go to the clubs to see live music and this is a song I’ve been dancing to for ages. Today, I get to play it for you. This is Everyone Likes To by Swale on Wbkm, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Everyone Likes To – Swale
2.) We’re Closed! – Blue Button
3.) Never Enough – Zola Turn

Another great song from Zola and the third song on Ninja Jane. I’ve always love the dancing maybe line. That angst of asking is it ever enough reminded me of the frustration Jason Cooley expressed in the song We’re Closed! There is also a great line about trying to get in, in the Swale song.
Most of us work for a living, and there are good and bad parts of that. This next set is dedicated to everyone who dreams of not working, but goes to work anyway.

4.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
5.) I Need A Raise – Cave Bees
6.) Rejected – Black Rabbit
7.) I Quit – Blotto

Blotto are from Albany and played a ton of fun songs. That is one of those songs that everyone understands. I loved seeing them at Hunts, a long time ago. The line about wanting to quit in the Rabbit song inspired the set, then it made me think of Blotto. Once that was set, the Cave Bees song was a natural, especially with Rebekah Whitehurst;s killer performance with Blue Button at The Monkey House last week. Pooloop and Dino Bravo VT also rocked hard that night. I needed one more and asked on Facebook. Eric Olsen suggested the WW, which was perfect. OK, it’s a beautiful summer in Vermont, but that also means mosquitoes.

8.) Giant Mosquitoes – Cold Sweat
9.) Summertime – Peg Tassey MUSIC and the Velvet Ovum Band
10.) Plastic Revolution – Doll Fight
11.) Hangover Dreaming – Gorgon
12.) Mad Mary Jones – THE VACANT LOTS

The Vacant Lots used to play in town all the time, but now they have put out the Departure album this Tuesday, and are touring with Brian Jonestown Massacre and playing in London and Glasgow. I got this yesterday and had to play it today. Gorgon will play the Monkey House next week and I have to get out to see them. I love that Doll Fight song. It is summer and the Peg song describes it beautifully. Here’s another fun song from Burlington’s past.

13.) Rudy’s Kookie – The Spring Heeled Jacks something happened and a wail of feedback happened. I dumped the song and went into
14.) 5-30 – Hover
15.) Rudy’s Kookie – The Spring Heeled Jacks (played fine)
16.) Sound Drivers – Endless Jags
17.) Paint This City – The Vacant Lots

I listened to their new album this morning and that one jumped at me. Another great song from the Jags. Sorry about the feedback. I had to swap the Jacks and Hover. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
