Song before: Looking For A Place To Happen – The Tragically Hip

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a great week for music and I’ve been getting out to as many shows as possible. This first performer took the stage for the first time in many years last Thursday and sounded as great as ever. This is the song she opened with.

2.) (What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding – Elvis Costello
3.) The Art Of Giving In – 1881
4.) Oliver’s Army – Elvis Costello

I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at the station and for bringing so much great music to town. They are bringing Elvis Costello to the Shelburne Museum on Sunday and I could not be more excited. That’s the next song on 1881’s series of EP’s called Lights, Camera, Action. I had to stick that one in between other songs since the intro and outro are so fun. Great songs from Elvis and It was so great to hear Peg sing again. OK, let’s head over to Robot Dog Studio for another edition of WBKM live at Robot Dog. Tonight we feature the amazing Andriana Chobot.

5.) Dig Him – Andriana Chobot
6.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot
7.) Another Day – Andriana Chobot
8.) My Old Home – Andriana Chobot

I love Andriana’s songs and hope you do to. Thanks Ryan Cohen for making us sound so great. I saw this next performer play a couple of songs a long time and have loved their music ever since. 9.) Urban Country – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will run from 9-11pm US Eastern Time and will go as follows.

Song before: Morrigan – Children in Paradise

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I’ve got lots of great new music to play tonight but let’s begin with one of Vermont’s absolute treasures.

1.) Scattered Birds – Aaron Flinn
2.) Faded Movie Reel – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
3.) Wooden Heart – SWALE
4.) All Love – Kat Wright

That’s the next song from Kat’s album By My Side that I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. That’s a brand new song from Swale from their upcoming album There’s No One Here. Wow, what a beautiful song, and what about those horns? The Jeremy song was from the interview and recording we did a few weeks back at Robot Dog Studio. Great song by Aaron, who is a great guy, a great singer, a great songwriter and a fantastic guitar player. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful person in our community. Speaking of wonderful people in our community, this next band have been playing around for a while but don’t have anything recorded. We met up last night with Ryan Cohen at Robot Dog Studio and recorded this interview and they played these four songs.

5.) Sky – The Nancy Druids
6.) Just Another Day – The Nancy Druids
7.) By Design – The Nancy Druids
8.) The Space Between – The Nancy Druids

I love the songs and the over the top guitar playing and can’t thank Ryan and the Druids enough for playing that. Also, I brought my brother Ken along and he had a great time watching it all happen. OK, let’s play some more rock and roll.

9.) East Jabib – REDadmiral
10.) Ain’t No Sunshine – Kiki’s Lost Nation
11.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot
12.) Loose Tooth – Clever Girls

Great new song from Clever. I love the huge sound of cascade. Kiki come out now and then to rock us hard, and it was cool to see Andriana play that song the other night. Great political rocker from Admiral. OK, let’s keep rocking.

13.) Give Love – 1881
14.) My Fear Of Losing You – Milton Busker
15.) Sorrow Of The Space Inside – Secret Heliotropes
16.) Every Last One Of Us – Swale

That song is so quiet and so loud and so gentle and so powerful and always blows me away when then play it live. I’m so happy I finally get to play it for you. That’s another cool song from Heliotropes album A Well Lit Room. Great song from Milton and same for 1881. OK, let’s keep rocking.

17.) Journals – Senders
18.) This Ain’t The Summer Of Love – The Contrarian
19.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS
20.) Burn – Dirty Blondes

I was listening to Pigs the other day and the imagery of burn and summer of love made me want to play those three together. Great song from Senders. OK, It’s my job to play local music but I just have to cheat now and then. There’s this french prog rock band called Children In Paradise who have been captivating me lately. The singer is about to release her solo album and is starting a crowdfunding campaign on April 1st. Since I play her music before and after my show all the time I thought I’d toss in one of her new songs.

21.) Who Are These Gods? – Dam Kat
22.) Be Like Ryan – The Mountain Says No
23.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants of Scotland
24.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

David sometimes lives in Vermont and sometimes lives in France so I thought that would be a fun way to bookend that set. Great song from Elephants. It sounds like they have new cool music coming for us soon. If you are near Jeffersonfille on Saturday, go check out Mountain!! Also, feel free to be like Ryan. Great song from Kat. Bonne Chance. OK let’s keep rocking.

Song before: No Plan – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to begin by thanking the wonderful Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. 1.) Two Weeks (’til The End Of The World) – Grand
2.) I know Right – The Mountain Says No
3.) Six Month Winter – Suburban Samurai
4.) Lion Tamer – Carraway

Now that the lions will soon be in charge we are all going to need to learn to become lion tamers, in a loving caring way. Great new song from Suburban. They played at The Monkey House last night. That’s a great new song from Mountain from their upcoming album Golden Landfill. That’s an early mix but sounds so cool. Great song from Grand. OK, let’s play the next song on Shovel Down, the album I’m playing all the way through song after song week after week.

5.) The Violent Strain Of My Broken Heart – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) The Mime – Joe Adler
7.) The Road – Anders Parker
8.) Machu Picchu – The Mountain Says No

Wow, they really had to climb the heights to create that one. Thanks Mountain! Anders played an amazing show at ArtsRiot last Friday. His version of that song was stunning. It’s pretty great on album too. Joe played at Radio Bean a week ago Monday and reminded me how great that song is. Great song from Seth. OK, with lots of fake news about and an incoming President who speaks in vague generalities and when he does cite facts, is usually wrong, it’s pretty scary and makes this song sound appropriate.

10.) Nicky Says – Black Rabbit
11.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
12.) Get Out Of Your Own Way – Kelly Ravin

Great song from Kelly’s new Bonneville album. He and his band the Welterweights opened for Anders last Friday. Doubtfire played at the Monkey last night. 14.) You Say You’re Alive – The Mountain Says No
15.) Devil’s Right Hand – Swillbillie
16.) 8 Long Years – 1881

Great new song from 1881’s Action EP. Hopefully, it will be four. Swillbillie will play at Nectar’s on Saturday. Another stunning new Mountain song. What a great rocker from Anders. OK, let’s play another new Mountain song. I’ve been waiting a long time to be able to play this one.

17.) Glazerbeam – The Mountain Says No
18.) Waterlanding – SWALE
19.) American Proxy – The Hero Cycle
20.) The Possibility Shop – The Red Telephone

No matter what happens in the next few years, there will be tons of possibilities. Let’s consciously make decisions to try and make choices that are good for us and our communities at all times. Great song from Hero. Swale are playing with a ton of other local bands at The Monkey House tomorrow. Everyone is playing country songs so that should be fun. I love that Mountain song. 22.) Politicians In My Eyes – Death World Wide
23.) Blind Pigs – ROUGH FRANCIS

Tonight’s local music radio show on WBKM 107.1FM will run from 9-11pm tonight. You can listen over the air on both sides of the Champlain Valley or from the Facebook link above. It will go as follows:

Song Before: The Stars (Are Out Tonight) – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to begin by thanking Higher Ground for sponsoring us. They have New Year’s Eve and the night before New Year’s Eve shows with Madaila coming up soon. Let’s begin tonight with a gorgeous song from a band who played a bunch of great shows in 2016 and should play a bunch more in the new year.

1.) Love Me Tender – Silver Bridget
2.) Can We Go There? – Bethany Conner Music
3.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
4.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants of Scotland

Elephants put out a terrific album this year called The Perfect Map. Hana played a great show for us this year in Burlington. Bethany is a cool performer with a ton of potential in her future. Bridget are so cool. OK, here is the next song from Shovel Down.

5.) The Snake – Seth Yacovone Band
6.) No Match For Her – The Decentz
7.) You – Screaming Broccoli
8.) The Invisibles – Black Rabbit

That’s from a couple of years ago but Rabbit are rocking hard and strong and should have a great 2017. Broccoli and Decentz are from Burlington’s early ’90’s and early ’80’s and helped create the scene we have now. That’s quite the rocker from Seth and the band. This next song may be my favorite from 2016.

9.) Black 17 – The New Siberians
10.) Last Night – Carraway
11.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
12.) Drug Me Up – Ninja Custodian

Ninja’s music always drags me up when I’m down. Doubtfire put out a great EP this year. Carraway and the Siberians put out tremendous albums this year. This next song is an older one but the band got back together for a show this year.

13.) Finger Prison – Envy
14.) Msp2 – ROUGH FRANCIS
15.) Naomi’s Back – Fire The Cannons
16.) It’s Real Again – Zola Turn

That’s a classic from the ’90’s. Cannons kept us rocking through the early 2000’s. That’s a newish one from Francis. I can’t wait for the new album!! Hmmm, Envy. This woman rocked the ’90’s and is still helping music be made.

17.) Not True – Peg Tassey MUSIC
18.) Papertrain – David Jarvis
19.) Ex-Files – Better Things
20.) The Art Of Giving In – 1881

That’s a song from the brand new and brilliant album Action. Great song from Better who released that earlier this year. Dave’s song is from the ’90’s but he’s back in town making music. It’s always great to hear Peg. This band will light up Higher Ground with fun this weekend.

21.) Children Of The Stars – Madaila
22.) Come Dance – Kat Wright
23.) Piano In Every Room – gneiss
24.) Break – Slingshot Dakota

That’s a song from my favorite non-local album from this year. Besides, SD come and visit us often. Piano is such a comforting song. Great song from Kat’s new album. Same for Madaila. OK, let’s go back a couple of years and rock.

25.) Release The Beast – The Mountain Says No
26.) Willow II – Tyler Daniel Bean
27.) Silver And Gold – Waylon Speed!
28.) Inner Revolution – Adrian Belew

Everyone is excited that Adrian will play ArtsRiot in March. Waylon always put on great rock shows. Great new song from Tyler. Mountain rock hard and will have a new album soon. I feel like I’ve been moving through time tonight so let’s play this one.

29.) Move Through Time – Persian Claws
30.) The Ballad Of Tom Smith – The Skamaphrodites
31.) Shy Spiders – Villanelles

Spiders is one of the great songs from 2016. I want to thank Daniel Bolles for his many years as music editor. Thanks for being such a champion for music in our town, and for taking me seriously. I hope your 2017 brings great new adventures. Well, I’ll be off next week, but I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again the week after next.
