Due to a technical glitch the gniess interview and songs played after Ex-Files but the show played in order on 107.1FM – TL

Better are playing a show on Sunday at Jim’s Basement. With all the new music I’m playing tonight I thought I should throw in a couple of Burlington classics. Peg and Dave well qualify. Great songs. Hmmm, I love Alpenglow. OK, this next guy is playing his last show tomorrow at ArtsRiot.

Tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM WBKM can be heard from the Facebook link, will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time tonight, and will go as follows:

Song before: It Ain’t Easy – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at the station. They have a packed week of great bands. I just got a copy of the new album by Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band called By My Side. It’s really good so let’s dive right into it.

1.) Come Dance – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
2.) This Land Is Your Land – VT artists
3.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 Vt Musicians

That was recorded in the 1980’s but still sounds so relevant today. With the upcoming election, if we can’t vote for Bernie, we can still follow his advice. Please vote and please don’t vote for the clown. OK, it’s time for the next song on the Invisible Homes album Song For My Double that I’m playing all the way through week after week until it’s done.

4.) The Clown – Invisible Homes
5.) Who’s Your Fool? – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
6.) Grounded – Invisible Jet
7.) Jazzmaster – Made by Robots

I caught Robots over the summer at Jazzfest and really liked them and have been wanting to play some of their music. Jet were a classic band from Burlington’s illustrious ’90’s. Another great new Kat song. OK, so today is my Mom’s birthday. I spent some time this morning with her and my brother. She really likes this classic Vermont singer, so this one goes out to you Mom.

8.) The Power Of The Word – Jon Gailmor
9.) 15 Steps – Maryse Smith
10.) Threaded – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
11.) Monarch Butterfly – Jenny Montana

Jenny used to play that song in the 2000’s though I have not heard from her in a while. It’s such a fun song. Jeremy Gilchrist is raising money to make his new album Threaded. If you like that song, please consider supporting him by pre-purchasing it. Maryse still comes back to play now and then and Jon is a local legend. This next band release their new album Traces tomorrow (I knew it was soon when I recorded the show but did not realize it’s out tomorrow).

12.) 1 – Madaila
13.) Nature – Madaila
14.) You Got Problems – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
15.) I Do – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
16.) Woods – Madaila

Those were the opening closing songs from Madaila’s Traces album and two more great new Kat songs. Yesterday, I went to Nectar’s and saw Sue Minter, Peter Welch, Pat Leahy, and Al Franken. Al was very serious and very funny and really wants us to go out and vote. Before and after the speeches was a tremendous show of music from Bob Wagner and friends. Here is a song from Bob’s other non indomitable band to give you a hint about what they sounded like yesterday.

17.) Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? – Book ‘Em Blues Band
18.) The Light – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band

Another great new Kat Wright song. Yes, Bob really is that great of a guitar player. Tuesday is election day and there is a show at Nectar’s that night so everyone can go out and party and not have to be alone, whichever way it works out. Here are a few of the bans that will be here.

19.) The Magic Robot – James Kochalka
20.) Hermaphroditus – Rue M.
21.) A Bottle Of Whiskey Later – Crazyhearse
22.) Oh Dirty Blondes – Dirty Blondes

If you are looking for music next Tuesday check out The Dirty Blondes Present: Exit Poll 2016 at Nectar’s. With those fun bands, and more, it’s going to be a great show. This next song has been running through my head all week. I hope you enjoy it.

23.) Black, Blue and White – The New Siberians
24.) Random Earth – Elephants of Scotland
25.) Sleepwalker – 1881

That song has been running through my head a lot lately too. Great song from Elephants. Our Earth is not random, it’s the only one we’ve got, so let’s do all that we can to take care of it, and us by default. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? See ya, ta ta, farewell….

26.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
outro

Songs after:
13th Star – Fish
Who Are These Gods? – Dam Kat
Hand Of Doom – Black Sabbath
Sat In Your Lap – Kate Bush
Cascade – Andriana Chobot
What’s In California? – Joshua Glass Music

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s going to be a bit of a short show, since the WBKM birthday party starts at Nectar’s at 9:30 and my show runs 9-11. I’m going to hang out for 30 minutes or so, then play some music from last years party. I had a great time last Saturday at the Radio Bean birthday party, where 80 or so bands played. I caught a lot and had a great time. Let’s begin with one of the bands who played a killer set in the afternoon.

1.) Waiting For You – Swale
2.) I’ve Been Down – Bob Wagner
3.) By My Side – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
4.) Good Thing – Maryse Smith

Maryse played a killer set at the party. I did not make it late enough to see Kat and the soul band, but did catch a fantastic set with a woman named Maggie and Kat Wright and Bob Wagner. That’s a new song from Bob that he just sent me. Thanks Bob!! Hmmmm, Swale. OK, let’s continue on through No Need To Beg. There are just a couple of more songs to play until I get to choose another album to play all the way through.

5.) Flicker (Song For Clara) – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
6.) The Night Syd Barret Died – Colin Nicholas Clary
7.) Amble Down – Crater Lake
8.) Gettin High – Heavy Plains
9.) Hit – Blue Button

I missed BB’s set at Radio Bean, but did catch them with Aspero Siacos and Heavy Plains at Finnegan’s the night before. Killer show. There was an article on Noisey about the local music scene that talked about local bands with links to listen to their music. The only one I did not know was Crater Lake so I thought I should check them out. Pretty good stuff. Colin played a great version of Syd at the Bean birthday party. Lovely song from Phil Yates and the band. OK, I’m going to head over to the party. I think Joe Moore is on soon, or now. Here is some music from last year’s party. The first few will be rock songs from Bob Wagner and the Book ‘Em Blues Band. When it starts sounding like Neil Young, that will be Seth Yacovone Band playing as Real Old and Insane Donkey. See you next week.

10.) Intro/Have You Ever Loved A Woman – Book ‘Em Blues Band
11.) Crossroads – Book ‘Em Blues Band
12.) Little Wing – Book ‘Em Blues Band
13.) Bamboozled By Love – Book ‘Em Blues Band
14.) Rocking In The Free World – Real Old and Insane Donkey
15.) Cowgirl In The Sand – Real Old and Insane Donkey
16.) Powderfinger – Real Old and Insane Donkey
17.) Down By The River – Real Old and Insane Donkey
18.) Like A Hurricane – Real Old and Insane Donkey
19.) Hey Hey, My My – Real Old and Insane Donkey
20.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit (since when after Joe’s set I popped back to the station and noticed that the players had shortened the time and the show was going to end early)

I just got back from local music internet radio show number 40 on WBKM.ORG.  It’s feeling like I’ve got the hang of this thing.

Song before: Hasn’t Hit Me Yet – Blue Rodeo

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  It’s a cold night in Burlington with an even colder wind.  It’s almost Christmas and here is a seasonally appropriate song from last year.

1.) Oh Holy Night – Electric Halo
2.) Beach Song – Ray Fork
3.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Emily Blacker

Sometimes when it’s cold out it’s fun to imagine joyous summer nights with great singer songwriters, and hanging out at the beach.  Electric Halo are cool and Johnnie Day Durand makes the saw sing, even if it is an instrumental.  Next up is the next song from Alice Austin’s To A Star In The Yard.  I’m taking the long way to show you how this album came about.

4.) Tastes Like Nothing – Zola Turn
5.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine
6.) Void – The Lavas
7.) Sharp Side Of The Knife – Alice Austin

Words can never truly describe music.  I though by playing a song from her previous four bands that it would let your ears hear her growth.  I’ve been slacking about going out to see music but did see Pink Floyd cover band Dark Side Of The Mountain for the last two Wednesdays.  This next set is some of the people who played last night.

8.) Mr Soul – Book ‘Em Blues Band
9.) Below The Beams – Grace Potter And The Nocturnals
10.) Gunslinger – Lendway
11.) All About You – Kat Wright And The Indomitable Soul Band

Dark Side of The Mountain are a local Pink Floyd cover band who have played the last two Wednesdays at Nectar’s.  They are guitarist Bob Wagner, bassist Josh Weinstein keyboardist Dan Munzing, and Matt Burr on drums.  Bob plays guitar and sings with Book ‘Em.  Matt plays drums with Grace, and that song sounds a bit Floydy.  Josh plays with the Indomitable Soul Band.  They were joined by Matthew Bryan Hagen from Lendway, and Kat Wright sang Money, Us And Them, Brain Damage, Eclipse and Have A Cigar.  It was a great night of music.  Burlington also has prog bands.

12.) Full Power – Elephants of Scotland
13.) Mary – Plan B

Plan B played it in the ’90’s and Elephants are doing it now, and are working on a new album.  I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Something misfired and the promo and outro were lost in a squeal for 30 seconds or so.

Sorry about that.  Tim still here to tell you about the next song.  It’s about looking at yourself from inside and objectively and noticing the other side of you.  This is a song by Fish, and even though he’s from Scotland, this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

Song after: The Other Side Of Me – Fish

I just got back from local music radio show number 37 on Wbkm Dot Org. It started acoustic, rocked harder and harder, then celebrated a birthday.

Song before: For A Moment We’re Strangers – The Church Band

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are The Sounds Of Burlington. A couple of weeks ago, at the Radio Bean birthday party, in the morning, I heard a great song from Joshua Glass. He just sent me a copy, so here is a song called What’s In California? on WBKM.org, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) What’s In California? = Joshua Glass Music
2.) Angel Of White – Hana Zara
3.) Another Drink Of Water – Joe Adler
4.) Never Cry Halo – Alice Austin

That was the fifth song from Alice Austin‘s To A Star In The Yard. There are so many great songs on that album and I will keep playing the album all the way through, week by week. Suddenly, this week, Joe Adler released an album called 11 11 11. That was one of the songs. Hana is playing Sunday at Radio Bean. Next up is a song that was everywhere in the ’90’s in Burlington.

5.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail
6.) Might As Well Settle – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
7.) Gone With Eraser – Lendway
8.) Home Away From Home – Elephants of Scotland

I love that Elephants song and can’t wait to hear the new material they are working on. It’s been fun reading their blogs about putting the next album together. Lendway are a great band with great harmonies and great melodies and they are really great guys. It was fun hanging out with Todd at the WBKM birthday party, last Tuesday at Nectar’s. Phil is playing tomorrow at The Monkey House. He and the band always put on a great show.
It’s November in Vermont and the sky is gray. Some people get depressed when there is less sun. A long time ago, I went through a battle with depression. I had some friends who helped, but I needed to find a way to engage with the world and music was the path that helped me. Please find whatever works for you. We need everyone engaged in the joy of life, including you. When I really needed something, this song was there for me. I held it tight, and it got me through.

9.) Sun In The Sky – Ninja Custodian
10.) Naomi’s Back – Fire The Cannons
11.) I-90 – ROUGH FRANCIS
12.) Plastic Revolution – Doll Fight

Doll Fight might have broken up, but 2 of the 3 are in a new band called Gorgon who are playing Sunday night at Radio Bean around 11pm. Rough Francis were fun at the Lou Reed cover night last week at the Monkey House. They are playing Radio Bean on Saturday. Wow, so much music! I usually say good night here, but I had such a good time at the Wbkm birthday party, that I want to give you a taste. Bob Wagner, D. Davis and their band did a great job at the party. They ended with a killer Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? Here is a live version of the song by Bob Wagner and the Book ‘Em Blues Band from the 2011 WBKM birthday party.

13.) Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? – Book ‘Em Blues Band
14.) Long Gone – Seth Yacovone Band

Seth and his band did a great job at the party. His playing is so fluid and they really rock. In between his set and Wagner’s over the top version of Love, with ripping twin leads, Tony’s kids band, The Id, played some indie rock. Happy Birthday WKBM! Thanks for letting me be a part of you.
Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
