I just got back from from doing my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. Considering how I placed the songs tonight I likely should have used The Old And They Young by MIDLAKE BAND as the song before, but considering the past couple of days, I had to use Flood of Sunshine.

Song before: Flood Of Sunshine – The Posies

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It’s a warm night and the last couple of days have felt like we just had spring for a few days, and now it feels like summer. This is Sarah Blacker on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker
2.) All The Kids – The New Siberians
3.) Our Work Is Never Done – PossumHaw
4.) The North – Hana Zara

I love the reference to the painted buildings in Burlington’s Old North End in that song. Great song from PossumHaw! That’s a super brand new song from Siberians. I’ve got the windows open and it feels like a warm summer night. This next artist used to be mayor of Burlington and now he’s running for President.

5.) We Shall Overcome – U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and thirty Vermont artists
6.) Destiny Waits – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds
7.) Sweet Angel – Robert Gagnon

Lovely song by Bob! Bud and Budd are such excellent guitar players. If you like the guitar, make sure you check them out sometime. Speaking of great guitar players you really should check out.

8.) New Atlantis – Aaron Flinn
9.) At The Diner – Zoot Wilson
10.) Evel Kinevel – Guppyboy
11.) Rocketsled’s Funky Main Man Meets Big Joe On Church Street – Phish & Richard Haupt.

Richard showed a lot of heart playing the clarinet on Church Street every day for years. It’s cool that Phish backed him up on that. Nice cover of the Chainsaws Of Babylon by Guppy. It almost had a Legend Of A Mind sweep to it. Killer song by Zoot. Aaron is playing at Radio Bean Tuesday at nine, if you want to check him out, and you really should if you can. So, speaking of Big Joe.

12.) Every Time I Hear That Mellow Saxophone – Big Joe Burrell & The Unknown Blues Band
13.) Sunflower Street – David L. Jarvis
14.) By My Side – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
15.) Glory Bound – Maryse Smith

Yet another great song from Maryse’s new album The Way It Is. Kat and the band are just so good. It’s not quite sunflower time yet, but there are tons of flowers blooming around town. Here is another cool new song.

16.) The Endless War – Jeremy Gilchrist
17.) Double Dare Ya – Steph Pappas
18.) Somebody Up There Loves Me – The Starline Rhythm Boys
19.) 40 Days – Better Things

BT are playing lots of shows and writing lots of music and are really good. Rhythm Boys have been playing around for years and are still going strong. Steph’s been making music in our town for a long time too. Let’s continue on through Swale’s album The Next Instead.

20.) Popular Crowd – Swale
21.) That’s That Is Is – Ninja Custodian
22.) Bullet – REDadmiral
23.) Yours Sincerely – Persian Claws
24.) Be A Good Citizen (NYC Mix) – Pinhead

Classic song with lots of good advice. The Claws are always fun! I’ve got to put in the effort to catch Admiral sometime soon. Classic from Ninja. This next artist has played tons of great shows for years and is getting a lifetime achievement award at Nectar’s tomorrow. It is extremely well deserved.

25.) Nighttime Fades – Seth Yacovone Band
26.) Film Called Life – Jer Coons
27.) How It Goes – Blue Button
28.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town, let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got home from radio show 15 on WBKM.ORG. The gray rainy night found a set to match.

Song before: Tonight’s the Night – Neil Young

Intro:

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. This week Caroline O’Connor and Matthew Hastings got engaged. Congratulations! There are a lot of couples who make music in this town. I will start with a Vedora song. I will follow with one of the best songs about marriage ever.

1.) Basalt Anchor – Vedora
2.) Marriage Song – Satori Bob
3.) You’re Free – The Cush

The Cush are a great couple, and this is song 5 from New Appreciation For Sunshine. Jon John Baumann used to play Marriage Song all over Burlington for a couple of years. Congrats again, and it will be interesting to see the new line-up of Vedora. I meant to go see jazz, but could not pass up seeing Swale on Flynn ave, in a parking lot, by the tracks.

4.) Good Medicine – Swale
5.) Ready to Race – Lendway
6.) Fucking Burning Bridges – Blue Button (announced as Burning Bridges)

Talked about seeing Blue Button and having 5-10 people in the audience. Lendway are trying playing as a new surf rock band, The High Breaks, since people don’t show up when they play. There was hardly anyone at Swale. Take a chance. Go out and see music. There is some great stuff out there. It’s jazzfest, here’s some jazz.

7.) Fast Thingy – Vorcza
8.) Nature – Pinhead
9.) Hawk Space BI007 – The Fatal Flaws

The Fatal Flaws doing a Hawkwind jam. Chris and Sasha are a great couple too. You can define joy by the look on Sasha’s face when she plays the drums. Pinhead are reminding us to not to over-globalize, and dedicated the song to the people of Istambul. I’ve played the next song before, but did you catch all the words? If only I had stopped there.

10.) Ornan’s Song – The Dirty Blondes
11.) Naomi’s Back – Fire the Cannons
12.) Mine All Mine – The Cave Bees

Rebekah Whitehurst and Steve Tremblay are a great couple. Cave Bees opening for the Doolittle show? Great song by Fire the Cannons. Ornan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you had fun checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got home from radio show number 9 (no Beatles though). I feel like I played some pretty good songs, but might have got the order better. It was a long work day, and I was more tired than is ideal.

Song Before:   Show Me – Jon Anderson

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the sounds of Burlington. Here’s a song from a show at Nectar’s a couple of months back. This is Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger on WBKM, Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Mirror Mirror – Rangers of Danger

2.) Tension Release – Nuda Veritas

3.) Purpose and Object – The Contrarian

Said Casey Hades Rae used to be the music writer in town and is now playing music. Talked about downloading t for free, but not feeling good about it. Even though I did it to play on the show, it feels like I should have paid for it. Said I would pay extra for his new one. I guess, I have to do it now. Talked about how amazing Nuda is live, and how she uses loops to create a lush sound. Talked about how Joe is a treasure to our music scene. Talked about leaving the Nectar’s show that it was recorded at, because Vedora were playing. It’s hard when two great shows happen at the same time. Mentioned how much I love Vedora.

4.) Somewhere Else – Vedora

5.) Livin – Nuda Veritas

6.) Presence – Satori Bob

Talked about first seeing John Baumann at the Cheese Outlet and loving his songs. Said he met up with Bob Gagnon to do the Satori Bob album. Talked about how wonderful Nuda is, and how much I love Vedora. Said last week I played Barbacoa doing BloodBoy.

7.) Bloodboy – Envy

8.) Weapon Factory – The Wards and the Dirty Blondes

9.) Finder – The Madelines

Talked about getting a CD from Chip Martin that had a ton of great stuff from Good Citizen. I saw the name the Madelines and something clicked. I played it, loved it, and had to play it on the show. Talked about how Weapon Factory began the Burlington punk scene, and how it was a fun version with the Blondes. Diane Sullivan clearly has the lead vocal at the end. Mentioned how great Envy were. Talked about playing another song from that CD and here is Invisible Jet.

10) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle

11.) If this is You – Invisible Jet

Apologized for introducing the wrong song. I meant to play Hero Cycle, and was happy that I just saw them play twice and who knows what happened to them. I’m glad they created the CD. Mentioned Invisible Jet and said goodnight.
