Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show will run from 9-11pm US Eastern time Thursday August 17th. It can be streamed at our Facebook page here: WBKM or at WBKM.ORG and will go as follows:

Song before: Kill The King – Rainbow

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a beautiful night in town but has been a challenging week for our country. We got to see the forces of fear spread a message of hate. We got to see lovely people stand up to it and we saw a lovely person die and her mother show us what strength and grace are. We have to fight this with love. Let’s begin tonight with a song about love.

1.) Can you Love Me Too? – Bethany Conner Music
2.) Trouble Come No More – Cricket Blue
3.) All We Need – Eastern Mountain Time
4.) Haze – gneiss

Great song by the lovely people in Gneiss. They will be at Red Square next Wednesday. I want to go but have a couple of other things happening that night. Check them out if you are downtown. Eastern are filming a video next Tuesday at The Monkey House at 6:30. I may work through it but love the lyrics in that song. Cricket and Bethany and others are playing at Farnham Ale & Lager VT on Saturday and it sounds like a great day of music. There is a lot of beauty in both of those songs, and we need beauty now more than ever. When confronted with so many emotions and images it can get overwhelming and sometimes a filter is needed.

5.) Great Filter – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
6.) Mad Captain – Brother Zag (Mike Luoma)
7.) Are We Mad? – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
8.) This Machine – Invisible Homes

As we have seen this weekend, and may see again this coming weekend, we will need to stand up to hate and fascism. Let’s use machines like guitars to fight the hate. We will have to do this alone since the man in the Oval Office has no intention of standing against hate. David and the band ask us an important question about our ability to elect such a man. Brother Zag wrote that song a long time ago and asking if our President is insane is more relevant than ever. Great song by Jeremy. OK, let’s ease off politics for a bit. It’s important to speak out but it’s important to keep making the world a lovely place. Last week I played the last song from 1881’s Light’s Camera Action “album” so it’s time to start a new one. This is a short one but all the songs are great. It’s called Loose Tooth by a band called Clever Girls and here is the first song.

9.) Tell Me No – Clever Girls
10.) Days Like These – Dysfunkshun
11.) Rock And Roll Is My Weapon – Ninja Custodian
12.) Sequoia 3 – Binger

I love the lyric in that song. We all started from the same root. We have grown in our own beautiful ways but we are all connected at the base. It’s important to remember that. If you want to stand up to hate and use rock and roll as your weapon, you have my blessing. That’s what I’m going to do. Dysfunkshun played back in the ’90’s and were always politically aware and Richard Bailey recently said if you are not political you are not punk. They will get the band back together in a few weeks at Higher Ground and I want to thank HG for sponsoring us here at WBKM. Great song from the Girls. I got to see them 3 times last week. OK, when you hear hate speech, please reject it.

13.) Rejected – Black Rabbit
14.) Full Moon Dark Places – Bull & Prairie
15.) Willow II – Tyler Daniel Bean
16.) Children Of The Grave – Surf Sabbath (The High Breaks)

Great song from the Breaks who will play at Foam Brewers tomorrow night. Tyler is on the road playing shows and will come by the Monkey House soon. He has a video about that song that delves into depression and we as a community don’t do mental health all that well. I want to thank him for helping us understand. I don’t know much about Bull except that they are from central Vermont and really rock. Thanks Ryan Cohen for turning me on to them. Rabbit are so great. These next two bands will be at Nectar’s on Monday with another band for a fun punk show.

17.) Two Weeks (’til The End Of The World) – Grand
18.) There’s A Problem – Mr. Doubtfire
19.) Insanity/Healing Dreams – Peg Tassey MUSIC
20.) Complex Vermont – Self Portrait

Vermont is liberal and conservative. We get really hot and we get really cold. We have people who believe in the alt right and we have people that love people. We are complex. In the midst of the insanity we will need Peg Tassey‘s healing dreams. The Doubtfire song begins with a quote from Trump saying ‘there’s no problem” but there is and he seems to be the only one who doesn’t notice it. Grand are one of the most fun rock bands ever. OK, this next band will be at Nectar’s tomorrow.

21.) Laughing Jim – The Edd
22.) Prog Noir – Stick Men (Official)
23.) Rainy Alley – Totally Submerged
24.) Avalon – Split Tongue Crow

Such a lovely song by the lovely Rutland band. Submerged play everywhere and I really like that song. Stick are a Crimsonesque band who will be at Higher Ground next Wednesday. I love the prog rock of the Edd. OK, let’s keep rocking.

25.) Before The Evening’s Thru – THE VACANT LOTS
26.) Black, Blue & White – The New Siberians
27.) The Road – Anders Parker
28.) Every Last One Of Us – SWALE

If you feel alone and scared there are people like Swale and myself who care and want to help. This world can be beautiful and needs every last one of us in our highest and most loving capacity. Anders was at ArtsRiot on Saturday and I was sick and missed it but am sure it was a great show. Great songs form Siberians and the Lots. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music, and the love, of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

29.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

Hey guys, Tim here for one more song. It will be a Fish song as always, and tonight’s has a very civic minded intro. Before I get to that I want to go back a few years and play a song that demands to be played after the events of this week.

Songs after:

Nazi Punks Fuck Off – Dead Kennedys
Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors – Fish
Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker
Private Public Breakdown – Alice Cooper
Murder – David Gilmour

14.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western
15.) Breathing In – The Hero Cycle

18.) Weapons Factory – The Wards
19.) Gas And Oil – Gas And Oil
20.) Alcohol Injection – Lord Silky

22.) An Obscene Amount Of Debt – Sink or Swim
23.) The Wolves Are Coming – Suburban Samurai
24.) We Need Bigger Knives – As We Were
25.) Welcome To The Hellmouth – Doom Service

Doom have been playing some shows but I have not caught up with them in a while. I’ll have to change that sometime. As used to play some great punk for us but I have not seen them around lately. Samurai were in town a couple of weeks ago. Swim just played out west. OK, let’s keep rocking.

26.) Carnage – Black Rabbit
27.) Jackbooted Thugs (Have All The Best Drugs) – Anders Parker

Song before: Looking For A Place To Happen – The Tragically Hip

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a great week for music and I’ve been getting out to as many shows as possible. 3.) The Art Of Giving In – 1881
4.) Oliver’s Army – Elvis Costello

I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at the station and for bringing so much great music to town. They are bringing Elvis Costello to the Shelburne Museum on Sunday and I could not be more excited. That’s the next song on 1881’s series of EP’s called Lights, Camera, Action. I had to stick that one in between other songs since the intro and outro are so fun. Great songs from Elvis and It was so great to hear Peg sing again. 5.) Dig Him – Andriana Chobot
6.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot
7.) Another Day – Andriana Chobot
8.) My Old Home – Andriana Chobot

I love Andriana’s songs and hope you do to. Thanks Ryan Cohen for making us sound so great. I saw this next performer play a couple of songs a long time and have loved their music ever since. Swale 016

Tonight’s local music radio show will stream at WBKM.ORG and (FB) on Thursday July 13th from 9-11pm US Eastern time and will go as follows.

Song before: Do It Again – The Kinks

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  Last Friday Swale finally released their new album There’s No One Here.  It’s a double album with red vinyl and lots of amazing artwork.  There are a ton of fantastic songs on the album  Let’s begin tonight with what is almost the title song.

1.) Loser – Swale

2.) High Flying Bird – Anders Parker

3.) One From Two – Linda Bassick

4.) Lowdown – Vedora

Vedora rocked our town for a couple of years and Caroline is still out there making similar sounding music.  Great song from Linda.  Cool song from Anders album The Man Who Fell From Earth.  That’s such a fun and sad song from Swale.  They excel at that, as you will hear throughout the course of the evening.  OK, here is the next song on Action, the EP I am playing all the way through song after song week after week.  It’s the third EP in their “album” Lights, Camera, Action.

5.) Mass Murderer – 1881

6.) Cereal – Carraway

7.) Bird In A Cage – Swale

8.) The Nighthorses – The Cush

When listening to the new Swale album something about Bird reminded me of the Cush song so I thought it would be fun to play them back to back.  That’s an interesting way to spell the Carraway song.  Great stuff from 1881.  This next band are playing at Sidebar tonight.

9.) Taung Child Mastered – The Dead Shakers

10.) Spastic Tactics – The Edd

11.) Counting On A Ghost – Elephants Of Scotland

12.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians

Great song from Siberians Black Blue and White album.  Great song from Elephants.  Nice trippy song from the Edd who will play a show for us in a few weeks.  I loved the Shakers the one time I saw them.  Last night I went to Nectar’s and saw these two bands, and need to get some music from the other one who played.

13.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

14.) Megaphone – Josh Glass

15.) Silver Dollars – Banana Schlitz

16.) Felon – Swale

Another great new Swale song that they have been playing at shows for a while now and I finally get to play it for you.  Banana will be at the Flynn Exposure series tomorrow at 5 or so.  Josh and Andriana were amazing last night.  Mal Maiz and Haley Jane were lots of fun too.  We are in the middle of summer and this song is so appropriate.

17.) Endless Sunkissed Lover – Gneiss

18.) Break A Leg – David Rosane And The Zookeepers

19.) Elevator – Swale

20.) It’ll Be OK – Let’s Whisper

21.) All Down Tonight – Swale

22.) Brothers And Sisters – Joe Adler

23.) Catch And Release – Clever Girls

Song before: I Don’t Remember – Peter Gabriel

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s been a beautiful week of warm and hot sunny days so let’s head to the beach.

2.) A Walk On Ballard Beach – The High Breaks
3.) I Wanna Be A Lifeguard – Blotto
4.) Blue Sky – Black Rabbit
5.) Lovely Day – gneiss

It’s been so nice to have so many lovely days lately. Gneiss are at Red Square tonight. There has been lots of blue sky lately and Rabbit sing such a cool song about it. They played a great show last Friday at The Monkey House. I remember seeing Blotto a couple of times at Hunts a long time ago. Great song from the Breaks. Now that Phil has taken the Affiliates joke to Chicago, it’s time for us to embrace the Ray Fork joke. OK, let’s play the next song on Camera.

6.) Shortcuts – 1881
7.) Miranda – Ninja Custodian
8.) Voodoo Camaro – Wide Wail
9.) Windows down – Lendway

It’s the perfect time to drive around with the windows down, perhaps in a magical camero. Classic song from Ninja. I’m working my way through the set of EP’s from 1881 called Lights, Camera, and Action song by song, week by week. OK, last Saturday I joined the Friends of Jim’s Basement and saw these next four bands.

10.) Winnebago – Ellen Degenerates
11.) Goner – REDadmiral
12.) Shark – Greaseface
13.) Fruity Pebbles (Legend Of The Samurai) – Shred Flintstone
14.) Cross Country – Steven Wright

I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring us at WBKM and for bringing Mr Wright to the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts tomorrow, and for all of the other great music they bring to our community all the time. Great song from the New Jersey band with such a great name. Flintstone rocked hard in Jim’s basement last week. Greaseface also put on a brilliant show that night. Admiral have stripped down to more of a acoustic band and were cool last Saturday too. Ellen closed that show nicely. OK, let’s play another Burlington classic.

15.) Wally Rides The Ferry – Zoot Wilson
16.) Fly On The Wall – Zola Turn
17.) Heartbreak Baby – Villanelles
18.) Can’t Feel It – Vetica

19.) Freeway – Totally Submerged
20.) The Mime – Joe Adler
21.) I Am A Hatchet – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
22.) Freeway – David Rosane & The Zookeepers

Such a great song from David. It’s sad to see Phil Yates move to Chicago but at least he and the band played a blistering show at the Monkey House last Friday. I’m sure we will see him again. Joe’s been playing around lately in his new band a.m. rejoice which I seem to keep missing. It’s hard to miss Submerged since they play all around Vermont all the time. OK, let’s keep up the theme with a song about the ocean.

23.) Song About The Ocean – Dino Bravo VT
24.) Sober – Vedora
25.) In The Rain – Plan B

Plan are a classic Burlington band from the ’80’s. I love how huge that song is. I always loved it when Vedora played Sober and Matt went way off on guitar. Hmmm, song about the ocean. Hmmmm. OK, there’s not much time left so let’s keep rocking.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I want to thank Higher Ground for sponsoring our station. Let’s begin with an artist who played a delicate and beautiful show to a pin drop quiet audience at ArtsRiot last Saturday.

1.) True Hue – Ivamae
2.) Let me Be – Peter Burton
3.) Faded Movie Reel – Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter
4.) Agree To Disagree – 1881

That’s the next song from Lights, Camera, Action, the album I’m playing all the way through, song after song, week after week. Great songs from Jeremy Gilchrist and Peter. Both were recorded live at Robot Dog Studio. Last night I brought the band Gneiss into Robot Dog for an interview and some songs. Let’s listen to it now.

5.) Three Feels Right – gneiss
6.) Endless Sunkissed Lover – gneiss
7.) Lovely Day – gneiss
8.) Haze – gneiss

Thanks gneiss for playing such lovely music. Thanks to Ryan Cohen for making us sound great and Jeff Arbor for helping us out. OK there is a new group of people promoting music in our town called Noise Ordinance. They will bring a couple of cool artists to Foam Brewers including this one.

9.) Barstools (live) – Hammydown (Abbie Morin)
10.) The Coast – The High Breaks
11.) Just Another Day – The Nancy Druids
12.) Loose Tooth – Clever Girls

The Girls and Druids songs were recorded at Robot Dog also. The Breaks will be at Nectar’s on Friday to help Josh Panda release his new album. It does not appear to be out yet, so hopefully I will have Josh’s album for next week. Great song from Abbie. Last Saturday Ivamae opened the show at ArtsRiot and this next band recreated Joni Mitchell’s Blue album. Here is one of their songs.

13.) Saturation Brain – Arc Iris
14.) There Are Bigger Men Than Me – Plastique Mammals
15.) They Try To Compose Themselves – serene – Floral Amoral
16.) Oh You! – You’re You! – Ruckzuck

I got to see Ruckzuck play Monday at Nectar’s then later at Radio Bean and I saw them Tuesday at The Monkey House. Mammals opened the Nectar’s show and Amoral finished it. Amoral opened the Monkey House show. Thanks for visiting. See you next time? OK, this next band are back in town on Saturday at ArtsRiot.

17.) Dreaming Too Much – Alpenglow
18.) Sunflower Street – David L Jarvis
19.) The Naked Garden – Peg Tassey MUSIC
20.) Ex-Files – Better Things

Due to a technical glitch the gniess interview and songs played after Ex-Files but the show played in order on 107.1FM – TL

Better are playing a show on Sunday at Jim’s Basement. With all the new music I’m playing tonight I thought I should throw in a couple of Burlington classics. Peg and Dave well qualify. Great songs. Hmmm, I love Alpenglow. OK, this next guy is playing his last show tomorrow at ArtsRiot.

21.) Old North Ender – James Kochalka
22.) The Road – Anders Parker
23.) Silver And Gold – Waylon Speed!
24.) Coming Up – Ruckzuck
25.) Future Shock – Ruckzuck

I thought I should play three of their songs since I saw them three times this week. Classic rocker from Waylon. Anders is just amazing. Thanks for all the music James! Reunion tour 2018??? OK, let’s play a few more.
