Song before: A Dark Light – Aram Bedrosian

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s winter time and the cold and snow are here. We just cruised past New Year’s Day and are diving into 2018. Let’s fill it with art and compassion and music. Let’s begin with an artist who just released a new song for the new year.

1.) Maria – Francesca Blanchard
2.) Mama – Ivamae
3.) Stormy Day – Robin Gottfried
4.) Cascade – Andriana Chobot

Andriana played a lovely show last Friday at Radio Bean and closed with that one. Robin Gottfried played a recent Thursday and I missed it but hopefully they will be back for a show I can attend soon. Ivamae played after Andriana last Friday. It was a great night. Great new song from Francesca. OK, here is the next song on Black, Blue, and White.

5.) Lead Me To Your Love – The New Siberians
6.) Raise Your Head – Gang of Thieves
7.) Happy New Year – Ninja Custodian
8.) Safe To Say – SWALE

I spent New Year’s Eve at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and Swale put on a wonderful show. Thieves closed the night by rocking hard. Great songs from Ninja and the Siberians. So, last night was a new episode of The X-Files and this song has been running though my head all week.

9.) The Invixibles – Black Rabbit
10.) You Will Fall – Kelly Ravin
11.) Boys Club – Peg Tassey MUSIC
12.) Dragged Around The Universe – Queen Tangerine

QT were Alice and Julia Austin‘s band after Zola Turn. They worked with Jeff Moxley who is now working with Peg to produce the upcoming album from Miriam Bernardo. I wanted to play the Peg song to remind us all that abuse of and predatory behavior are not just issues that effect large companies but also exist in our community. The local punk community is currently struggling to figure out the best way to deal with this and it’s great that they are trying. You want to encourage people who behave badly to improve but at what point will someone not change and you just have to cut ties. It’s a challenge that will hopefully create new spaces of acceptance and power for women. OK, great songs from Kelly and Rabbit. I saw Rabbit last Saturday with this next band.

13.) The Art Of Vandalay – Sad Turtle
14.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
15.) The Meanest Thing I’ll Ever Write – Milton Busker
16.) Pauses – Lowell Thompson and Crown Pilot

That’s Lowell with Bill Mullins, Kirk Flanagan, and Steve Hadeka and it’s such a cool song. Great song from Milton. He played a great version of it last week at Light Club Lamp Shop with his band The Grim Work. Great song from Abbie who is now in the band Hammydown. Turtle are so cool. OK, I’ve been watching X-Files and just got the new Twin Peaks so let’s play this song.

17.) Doppelganger – Lendway
18.) Judgment Day – David Rosane & The Zookeepers
19.) Fool That I Am – Eastern Mountain Time
20.) Think I’ll Stay – Great Western

Western used to play rocking shows around town. Fun song from Eastern. Great new song from David and the band. Cool song form Lendway. This next band are at The Monkey House on Saturday.

21.) Let The Cold In – Mr. Doubtfire
22.) Heavy Winter Heavy Snow – My First Days On Junk
23.) Mush – Phantom Suns
24.) You’re The Target – Casey Merlin Rae

Nice rocker from Casey. Cool song from Ryan Cohen and his band. Great songs from Junk and Doubtfire. This was one of my first favorite prog bands who would come to town now and then.

25.) Hey Ernie – Cold Sweat
26.) Errol McSquisitor – Elephants of Scotland
27.) The Road – Anders Parker
28.) Mr Reed – Seth Yacovone Band

Great rocker from Seth. Anders and Cloud Badge are on the road this weekend. Classics from Elephants and Sweat. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week shall we?

1.) Harvest Moon – Silver Bridget
2.) Paperclip Chains – Let’s Whisper
3.) The Interrogator (Enhanced) – Milton Busker

Last night’s local music radio sow on WBKM 107.1FM went as follows:

Song before: Strange Phenomena – Kate Bush

intro

From our small city to the great big word, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Last week I saw a ton of great new music at the Eat More Kale Festival and want to highlight as much of that music as I could track down. I wish I had found more, but did find some treasures like this song:

1.) Not I – Andriana Chobot
2.) Here Comes The Sun – Aaron Flinn
3.) One From Two – Linda Bassick
4.) Kentucky – Cricket Blue

I had a great time seeing Cricket in City Hall Park in Burlington on Friday and loved their version of that song. I don’t have any music by Steady Betty to play, so I thought I’d toss in one of Linda’s songs, since she writes some of the Betty songs. Aaron played a great version of Sun at the kale festival. Andriana was amazing at the kale festival and I love all of her songs, especially that one. OK, let’s play the next song on Giant Places, the album I am playing all the way through, one song per week, until the album is through.

5.) Gone With Eraser – Lendway
6.) Better Off – Haley Jane and the primates
7.) Piano In Every Room – gneiss
8.) Soul Piggy Bank – SWALE

Last week after I played Piano I though ti would mix nicely into Piggy. I think that went quite well. Haley and the band put on an amazing show at the kale fest. I can’t wait for their new album which just got funded through Kickstarter. Hmmm, Lendway. This next band put on an amazing show at the kale festival and their upcoming album is going to be a huge step forward and I can barely wait.

9.) Let’s Move – Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
10.) Strings – Binger
11.) Friends Share Lovers – And The Kids
12.) Shy Spiders – Villanelles

Their new album Blue Heart Attack is easily one of the best albums of the year so far. They will be playing every Wednesday at Nectar’s and I want to catch some of those shows. ATK are at ArtsRiot on Saturday and I hope to be there. I’ve been lucky enough to catch Binger a couple of times lately, including the kale festival, They always seem to play a ripping version of Strings. I cant wait to see Kat Wright and the band play at the waterfront for the July 3rd celebration. They were so stunning at the kale festival. OK, this next singer is playing Nectar’s on Friday.

13.) Better Half – Abbie Morin
14.) I’ve Been Down – Bob Wagner
15.) The Day I Met You – Dirtminers
16.) Stop – REDadmiral

I really wanted to see Admiral release their album Tuesday at Nectar;s but was ill and could not make it. Next time! I just love that old Dirtminers song. Bob is such a wonderful guy and a serious talent in our music scene. That’s a cover and as far as I am concerned, the can play covers or originals or whatever he wants, as long has he keeps playing. He is tremendously talented. Great song from Abbie Gail. OK, let’s keep rocking and then kick up the pace a lot.

17.) Silver And Gold – Waylon Speed!
18.) Stick That In Your Juicebox And Sip It – Better Things
19.) Welcome To The Hellmouth – Doom Service

Doom and Better were set to play Thursday night at The Monkey House but I later heard that Doom had to drop out. I hope everything is well. BT are just a great band and always worth checking out. Waylon are such a classic local band. OK, I’m feeling a bit off and the voice is fading so let’s close tonight with a super long super heavy magnificent piece of art.

20.) Pastoral – Vultures of Cult

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? Ta ta. Farewell. See Ya….

21.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit
outro

Songs after: Sunsets On Empire – Fish
Hinterland – TILT
Block – The Church Band

I’ve had to prerecord my shows recently to match up the Net signal with the FM signal. Tonight’s show will go as follows.

Song before: Let’s Go Crazy – Prince

promo

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  I had to prerecord last weeks show so on Wednesday I saw the Church and then was gutted to hear that Prince had passed away on Thursday.  I had a ton of respect for him and was blown away the one time I saw him.  Both The Monkey House and Higher Ground have tribute nights to Prince coming up soon.  And, if Prince’s loss did not leave you cold enough, Vermont got a nice little snowstorm on Tuesday.  That’s such a Vermont thing to have happen.  It’s kind of wild to see flowers in bloom and covered in snow.  Local artist Jeremy Gilchrist took some cool pictures of the phenomena so let’s begin tonight with one of his songs.

1.) Clocks On The Wall – Jeremy Gilchrist
2.) Science Fiction – Hana Zara
3.) Kentucky – Cricket Blue
4.) Let’s Move – Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band

That’s such a great song from Kat and the band.  I can’t wait for the new album.  That’s a cool song from Cricket.  They are playing on Sunday at the Radio Bean, if you want to check them out.  That’s such a powerful song from Hana.  Great song from Jeremy.  OK, let’s play the next song from Callisto.

5.) Wishing Well – Alpenglow
6.) Stay – Slingshot Dakota
7.) Presence – Satori Bob
8.) Better Half – Abbie Morin

Abbie is recording a Live At The Fort show on Thursday night, tonight, at the Skinny Pancake.  Satori are a combination of John Baumann and Bob Gagnon.  John used to play that song at coffee shops all around Burlington.  Bob still plays all around Vermont.  I can’t wait until Slingshot come to town on May 10th.  Yea.  Great rocker from Alpenglow.  On Friday Binger release their new album at ArtsRiot.  Here is one of the new songs:

9.) If I Knew – Binger
10.) Sequoia I – Binger
11.) Sequoia II – Binger
12.) Sequoia III – Binger
13.) Strings – Bingr

That was another new Binger song.  The middle three were from their last EP.  OK, usually I play music by Vermont musicians but for this next set I will play some songs about Vermont.

14.) Moonlight In Vermont – Willie Nelson
15.) Feel The Bern – Violint Wednesday
16.) The Tradeoff In Vermont – Lindy Pear
17.) Hallelujah The Hills – Hallelujah The Hills

Great Vermont references in that song.  Lindy used to always be the second band on at the Radio Bean birthday party, though not for the last couple of years.  I love the Burlington imagery in the Bern song.  Such a classic from Willie.  So, the HTH song was from an older album, but they just released a new one called A Band Is Something To Figure Out.  On May 12 Swale will head to Boston to play a show with HTH, so here is a song from the new album.

18.) Hassle Magnet – Hallelujah The Hills
19.) Everyone Likes To – Swale
20.) Screwball – Screaming Broccoli
21.) Jan Michael Vincent – Chin Ho

Classics from Chin and Broccoli.  Burlington’s music scene became so great back in the ’90’s and has stayed that way.  Great rocker from Swale.  I love that new Hills song.  OK, there is time for a few more.  Let’s keep rocking.

22.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
23.) Restaurant – The Mountain Says No
24.) New Age Woman – Pinhead

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

25.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit

Outro

Songs After: Crucifix Corner – Fish

Emerald – Ace Frehley

Purple Rain – Prince

As always, I want to thank everyone who made tonight’s show possible. Thanks to Jeremy Gilchrist – Singer-Songwriter, Hana Zara, Cricket Blue, Taylor Smith, Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band, Kat Wright, Bob Wagner, Alpenglow, Slingshot Dakota, Tom Patterson, Carly Comando, Satori Bob, John Baumann, Robert Gagnon, Abbie Morin, Binger, Shakir Stephen, Dalton Muzzy, Braden Winslow, Hallelujah The Hills, SWALE, Eric Olsen, Jeremy Frederick, Tyler Bolles, Amanda Gustafson, Chin Ho, Andrew X Smith, Phil Yates & The Affiliates, Phil Yates, Jacob Blodgett, Raph Worrick, The Mountain Says No, Ben Maddox, Jedd Kettler, Justus Gaston, Andrew Frappier, Dug Nap, Black Rabbit, Jane Boxall Percussion, Marc Scarano, Darlene Scarano, Fish, Ace Frehley, WBKM, 107.1FM, Tony Gallucci, and everyone else!!!!

For tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM and WBKM.ORG I had expected to highlight some of the great music that happened last week and highlight some of the great music happening this week, then add in a fun set or two, but this coming week’s and last week’s music filled the two hours very quickly!

Song before: Bernie Is A Punk – Bern Unit

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington.  So much great music happened in town last week and there is a ton of great stuff happening this week too.  Let’s see how much I can highlight.  Last night I went to Radio Bean to see what Caroline O’Connor is up to.  She played some really cool songs.  Let’s begin tonight with a song from her previous band.

1.) Basalt Anchor – Caroline O’Connor

2.) I Know It’s True – Wide Wail

3.) Highway – Construction Joe

4.) 2,000 – The Pants

I had a good time seeing so many great performers at the Pants music highlight show at Higher Ground last Saturday.  They closed the night with 2,000 and had everyone on stage and it was so cool.  Also, at the Pants show, Swale was the house band so they did a killer set of Wide Wail songs, and Construction Joe got back together to play a set.  I thought I’d play the songs in the previous set to give you an idea of what the night sounded like.  OK, now it’s time to play the next song on the Bernie Sanders album that I am working my way through, one song per week until the album is done.  I was so happy that he won three more states last week.  This is the last song on the album that he recorded here in Vermont many years ago.

5.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 VT Artists

6.) This Machine – Invisible Homes

7.) Symptom Of The Universe – Surf Sabbath

Last Friday I wandered down to The Skinny Pancake and saw Homes play a killer set.  They closed with Machine. I then walked over to Juniper at Hotel Vermont and caught the High Breaks.  They tossed in a couple of their Sabbath covers including Symptom.  OK, so that was some of what happened last week.  Surf Sabbath will be playing at Metal Monday on April 4th, so that is coming up this week.  There is a ton of other great music happening this week. The sad thing is that I will miss all of it.  Tomorrow night my brother Ken and I will head to Montreal to see Iron Maiden.  If you will indulge me, I will start off this set with the title song from their new album and a song I will hear tomorrow night.

8.) Book Of Sours – Iron Maiden

9.) Angry Inch – Hedwig and the Angry Inch cast recording

10.) Ornan’s Song – The Dirty Blondes

11.) East.Jibab – REDadmiral

If I wasn’t at Maiden on April 1st I’d love to be at the Switchback Brewery seeing Admiral.  If I wasn’t at Maiden on April 1st I’d love to be at Art’s Riot seeing the stage production of Hedwig, featuring Ornan on drums, and staying for the Dirty Blondes who are playing after.  It’s going to be hard to miss the Blondes, but hey, Maiden.  Another band that I really enjoy, the Wee Folkestra, are playing at the Skinny Pancake on April 1st.  They are a collective of cool people, some of whom are in the following bands.

12.) Spit-n-Fire Blues (live at Nectar’s) – Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger

13.) This Is Our Good Night – Aya Inoue

14.) Super Sexy Science Party (live at Nectar’s) – Wave Of The Future

Samara Lark Brown from Wave is part of the Folkestra.  So are Aya and Joe.  I’d love to be at the show, if I wasn’t at Maiden.  There is likely lots of other music happening in town on April 1st too, but let’s move on to April 2.  This next band are most of Wave and they are playing at Drink.

15.) Art Of Vandalay – Sad Turtle

16.) Barstools – Abbie Morin

17.) Los Muertos – Eastern Mountain Time

Actually, Eastern are playing on April 1st too.  They are over at Radio Bean.  Abbie is playing at the Skinny Pancake on April 2.  These next two artists are playing at Radio Bean on April 3rd.

18.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara

19.) Matter Of Time – Eric George

20.) Lithuania – Hana Zara

I just love the imagery of Hana’s songs.  She and Eric are playing some shows together around the Midwest very soon.  I was thrilled when I looked in the listings and saw that they are playing Sunday night at Radio Bean.  I love when I get to listen to Hana.  Well, I’m almost out of time, but I did want to give a shout out to Swale for their tremendous musicianship at the Pants show last Saturday.  Let’s play a couple of their songs to take us out.

21.) Overcoat – Swale

22.) Popular Crowd – Swale

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song after: Vigil – Fish

As always, I want to thank everyone who made tonight’s show possible. Thanks to: BERN UNIT, Vedora, Caroline Marie, Jane Boxall Percussion, Amanda Gustafson, Jeremy Frederick, Tom Lawson, Bernie Sanders, Invisible Homes, Sean Witters, The High Breaks, Todd Gevry, Kevin Lynam, Matthew Bryan Hagen, Iron Maiden, Robert Fuller, The Dirty Blondes, Rebecca Rogers, Diane Sullivan, Ornan McLean, Chris Clark, REDadmiral, Gordon Glover, John Billingsley, Joe Adler, Aya Inoue, Samara Lark Brown, Luke Richer, Jake Styles, Jeremy Gartner, Sad Turtle, Abbie Morin, Abbie Gail, Thomas Pearo, Eastern Mountain Time, Sean Hood, Hana Zara, Eric George, Eric George, SWALE, Tyler Bolles, Eric Olsen, Fish, and everyone else!!

Song Before: Escape Is At Hand For The Traveling Band – The Tragically Hip

Promo

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Binger have been playing some great shows lately, both in Burlington and all around. They have a brand new song that features Stephanie Heaghney on vocals, and the usual spiritually alive lyrics. Let’s take a listen.

1.) If I knew – Binger
2.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders
3.) Freeway – David Rosane and the Zookeepers
4.) This Land Is Your Land – VT Artists

I just love the version of the classic that Kat Wright, Bob Wagner, and lots of others put together to honor Bernie Sanders and to stand behind him. Freeway has a revolutionary spirit, in a Bernie kind of way. I caught David last night at Radio Bean and enjoyed the two songs I heard. He is playing a Bernie benefit in West Newbury on Saturday. Classic from the album Bernie recorded back in the ’80’s. We get to vote for him on Tuesday here in Vermont. Last night, I went out to Higher Ground to see the Wee Folkestra. I don’t have any of their music, but many members of the band played on this album.

5.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler
6.) Foxy – Abbie Morin
7.) What’s In California? – Josh Glass
8.) Gold In California – The Red Telephone

I love that new Telephone song. Sean, from the band, played a great show last night at Radio Bean with his new band The Nancy Druids. I caught Josh Glass at the Marriott last Saturday and really enjoyed the show. He did a great version of that song. I caught the first set by Abbie Gail at Nectar’s last Saturday after Josh and loved it. OK, let’s play the last song from Red Flannel Hash.

9.) Where Do We Go? – Black Rabbit
10.) Affection – Guppyboy
11.) My New Mixtape – Eef
12.) Knucklehead – Screaming Broccoli

Classic from Borccoli. Such a fun song. Great new song from Eef. Guppy were a big influence on the Burlington scene in the ’90’s. Great song and album from Rabbit. I saw this band a while ago at Metal Monday and they are coming back to play Nectar’s this Monday. This is dedicated to my brother Ken who is going to the show with me.

13.) Descent Into The Maelstrom – Holy Grail
14.) No Way – Phantom Suns
15.) We Need Bigger Knives – As We Were
16.) Finder – Rocketsled

Great cover of the Madelines song from Rocket. I haven’t seen As We Were for a while but always enjoy them when I do. Killer song from Phantom who have been playing a ton of shows lately. What a rocker from Grail. That should be fun on Monday. This next band come to town every year or so. They are coming back in May with a new album. Here is one of the new songs.

17.) Paycheck – Slingshot Dakota
18.) I Need A Raise – Cave Bees
19.) Morning Again – Doll Fight
20.) Yardsale – Lendway

I miss Lendway. Great rocker from Doll Fight. Don’t we all Cave Bees, don’t we all? Killer new song from Dakota. Is it May yet? Last week I played a song from the new Gregory Douglass album. I dug into it a bit more this week and really liked this one.

21.) The Great Wide – Gregory Douglass
22.) Never Cry – David Rosane and the Zookeepers
23.) Endless War – Jeremy Gilchrist
24.) This Machine – Invisible Homes

Never is another cool song from David. The lyrics suggested the Homes song, and Homes are playing The Monkey House tomorrow. Never also suggested the Jeremy Gilchrist song so I though it would be cool to line those up like that. OK, time for a couple more. Here is another new live song from When Particles Collide.

25.) Storm Cloud – When Particles Collide
26.) That’s When I Reach For My Revolver – Ninja Custodian

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Let’s begin tonight with the title song from one of Burlington’s coolest artists. He’s moved away, but still comes back to play now and then.

1.) My Hero, The Enemy – Gregory Douglass
2.) As Glass – Wren Kitz
3.) Soul Piggy Bank – Swale
4.) This Land Is Your Land – VT Artists

It’s so cool that so many local artists got together to record this song as a boost to the candidacy of Bernie Sanders. It features Kat Wright, Bob Wagner, Marie Claire Johnson, and lots of others. Swale played a great show at Light Club Lamp Shop last Saturday and did a great version of that one. That’s a new song from Wren’s just released album For Evelyn. Great song from Gregory. I just ran into Abbie Gail since she just finished a US tour and arrived back in Burlington. Her band, Abbie Morin, will be at Nectar’s on Saturday. Here’s a live song from the road.

5.) Barstools – Abbie Morin
6.) Barstool Blues – Seth Yacavone Band
7.) The Call – Swillbillie
8.) Constant Disaster (live) – When Particles Collide

That’s a live version from Particles new album Live At The Sinclair. Great stuff from the rocking duo who will be on the road soon. Great song from a local band I have not yet caught. Seth did such a great job with the Neil Young songs at the WBKM birthday party last year. It’s cool to have a recording of that. Great song from Abbie. It’s time for the next song on Red Flannel Hash. I held off playing the album so I could start it so that this song would be appropriate. It’s chilly tonight, was 55 on Tuesday, was -13 (or so) on Saturday. It will be in the 40’s for the weekend. Well, for tonight this song is mostly true.

9.) It’s Cold – Black Rabbit
10.) Still Life Scene – Envy
11.) Ornan’s Song – Dirty Blondes
12.) Endless Parts 1 & 2 – Elephants Of Scotland

What great versions of those Elephants songs. Those are from the live at Gettysburg album. The whole band is great, but how about the drumming and chime playing from Ornan McLean? Ornan is going through a tough time sine he lost his mother a couple of days ago and today is his birthday. I had to play a chunk of Elephants for him and had to play the song about him from one of his other bands. Best of luck and heal as soon as you can Ornan! Sean and Ann Mindell from Envy will be at Radio Bean next Wednesday in their new band The Nancy Druids. Great song from Rabbit. Last week I missed the Mountain Says No at the Monkey House, but just because I slacked, doesn’t mean you have to miss them.

13.) JC And The Beast – The Mountain Says No
14.) Teenage Mother Earth – The Red Telephone
15.) Ninjas VS Zombies – Phil Yates
16.) The Crisis – Ninja Custodian

Killer song from Ninja. Great song from Phil from before he became affiliated. Great songs from Telephone and Mountain. This next song is about a crisis in America that necessitates the phrase Black Lives Matter.

17.) Blind Pigs – Rough Francis
18.) The Eldridge – Cameo Harlot
19.) Captain 20 – Barbacoa
20.) The Territory – Hana Zara

Great song from Hana’s 2015 album The North. Cool rocker from Barbacoa. Cameo were a great band that featured Paul Comegno on guitar and vocals. Now he is just playing guitar with Rough Francis. OK, let’s take the energy down a bit with a cool song.

21.) The Alchemist – Pours
22.) All Your Basis – Invisible Homes
23.) Kids – Wren Kitz
24.) Doris – Wren Kitz

Those last two are the closing songs and pieces of effects from Wren’s new album For Evelyn. Cool new song from Homes. Now, how will Sean Witters pull that one off live? Fun song from Pours. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM. Last week I had it well together but this week the work time change hours from the last couple of weeks are really catching up. I slacked and did a short show then filled the rest of the time with Bowie songs, which I might have done anyway.

It Ain’t Easy – David Bowie

intro

From our small city to the great big world these are The Sounds Of Burlington. It’s not as bustling in town this week but is a beautiful mellow night. I want to apologize since I think tonight is going to be a bit of a shorter show. My whole work schedule changed a couple of weeks ago and working early mornings Monday to Friday is taking some getting used to. I’m not sure if the change is permanent or temporary, but I’ll get used to it soon. Last Friday I got to see four great bands. This first band played another stunning show at The Skinny Pancake.

1.) If You Get Lost – Swale
2.) The Saddest Man – Myra Flynn
3.) Spi-Fy – Barbacoa
4.) A Quiet Pun – Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger

Joe Adler and the Rangers played a wonderful show at Nectar’s last Friday. Myra opened and I picked up her Half Pigeon album and Saddest really jumped out. In hindsight I should have not left Barbacoa so soon, they played after Swale at the Pancake, but I thought the timing was tighter and Myra’s band was pretty amazing. Sometimes there is too much music in town. OK, let’s play the next song on Red Flannel Hash.

5.) Blue Sky – Black Rabbit
6.) Statistik – The Mountain Says No
7.) Swing The Gavel – Elephants of Scotland
8.) Gettin High – Heavy Plains

Plains are playing at The Monkey House tomorrow and I’m very psyched for the show. I love that new Elephants song. Mountain played a couple of stunning sets at Zen Lounge last Saturday. I love the Rabbit song, and all of their songs. I just got this next song last week and played it on last weeks show. I liked it so much I want to play it again.

9.) Barstools (live) – Abbie Morin
10.) Wiser – And The Kids
11.) Ladybug – Ninja Custodian
12.) Elanor Rigby – Screaming Broccoli

What a fun rocking cover by the late ’80’s Burlington band. I miss Ninja. Kids are out and touring the country. If they come to your town, go! Great song from Abbie Gail. This is another great Burlington classic.

13.) Lights Of Montreal – Lobot
14.) Extended Werewolf – farm

Both of those are such great songs. Well, I’m going to call it a night, but I have a bunch of Bowie stacked up if you want to listen for a while. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM. You can likely guess which Presidential candidate was in town from the songs I played before my set. It was so warm in the studio, I had the window wide open and the tunes blasting out.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. Winter finally arrived in the last week. It’s a bit warm tonight and will warm up this weekend, but it’s nice to have some snow and a little cold. Burlington is hopping tonight as there is a Presidential candidate in town speaking at Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. There are lots of supporters and lots of protesters and lots of people peacefully participating in the process of democracy. It’s kind of a cool thing. Tonight let’s begin with some classic Burlington rock and roll.

1.) All My Life – Wide Wail
2.) Tastes Like Nothing – Zola Turn
3.) Popular Crowd – Swale
4.) Lean In – When Particles Collide

I just love that song from the mighty road warrior duo. If you ever get a chance to see Particles, go. They always play a great show and play with other great bands. Killer rocker from Swale. They are playing a couple of shows this week, including doing a cover set from the Pants this weekend at ArtsRiot. They are playing as themselves Friday at The Skinny Pancake. Killer classics from Zola and Wail. OK, let’s play the next song from Red Flannel Hash.

5.) BS Passes – Black Rabbit
6.) Angels and Devils – Invisible Homes and Scott Mangan
7.) Swing The Gavel – Elephants of Scotland
8.) Into The Light – Great Western

Killer song from Western. Great brand new song from Elephants. That sounds nicely like an old Genesis song. Great unreleased song from Homes, with a little help. I just got that one and really like it. Great song from Rabbit!! This next singer just hit the road and is playing all over. She recorded this one live on the road.

9.) Barstools (Live at Otis Mountain Get Down) – Abbie Morin
10.) Glory Bound – Maryse Smith
11.) The North – Hana Zara
12.) We Shall Overcome – U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and 30 Vermont musicians

It’s great to hear Bernie speak about real issues that will help people. This was recorded in the ’80’s and he is still consistent today. Local music writer for Seven Days, Dan Bolles asked several local people in the music business for top local album picks of the year, among other things. I feel fortunate that he asked my opinion. I could not decide between JV by The Mountain Says no, or Red Flannel Hash. If I had a third choice it would have been The North from Hana Zara. It’s a great song and a great album. Maryse Smith just moved to Philadelphia, but we would love to have her come back to play a show anytime. Glory is such a great song. Wow, Barstools rocked!! OK, let’s switch gears a little.

13.) The Alchemist – Pours
14.) All Your Basis – Invisible Homes
15.) Yardsale – Lendway
16.) Mirror Mirror – Joe Adler

Joe Adler & The Rangers Of Danger are playing Nectar’s tomorrow, so if you like that song, go check them out. I miss Lendway. Killer new song by Homes. It’s a bit odd, but it’s growing on me. Great song from Pours. This next band are playing Saturday night at the Zen Lounge.

17.) Long Term Sermon – The Mountain Says No
18.) Distance – Vetica
19.) Let’s Bury Bob – Screaming Broccoli
20.) Naomi’s Back – Fire The Cannons

Great song from one of the great rock bands that have played Burlington. Classic song from Broccoli. Vetica broke up, but just released a couple of albums of unreleased songs. Great song from Mountain. This next band put on a killer show just after midnight on New Year’s Eve at The Monkey House, and it was a great way to start 2016. I especially liked this song.

21.) Righteous – ROUGH FRANCIS
22.) Burn – The Dirty Blondes
23.) Heavy Psych – The Cush
24.) Womb With A View – Heavy Plains

Great song from Plains. They will play the Monkey House soon. Powerhouse song from the Cush. Fun rocker from the Blondes. OK, let’s go classic Burlington.

25.) Always Monica/Down At The Duck (live) – Chin Ho

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

26.) Sayonara
