I had a great time seeing music last Wednesday at Nectar’s. I did lots of errands during the day, like meeting with the lawyer and mom’s tax guy, then had a nice visit with her. I caught a long nap, was up and running around 8, then took the lovely walk downtown.

I only caught a couple of songs by Troy Millette. He played a song called Brothers from an upcoming EP that sounded pretty nice. He said he was learning a new cover for each Wednesday show in March. He played a sweet version of Let It Be and dropped it into Round Here. He has a great stage personality and a pleasant voice. I’ll have to catch a full show soon.

Up next, Matt the Gnat and the Gators took the stage and regaled us with fun creepy stories. Matthew Bryan Hagen was joined by Miss Saxy (Caroline Marie) and Todd Gevry (the hog) on snare. They began the night with a story about an assassin who collects body parts as payment and has The Snake Doctor add them to his gumbo. They sang about how There’s A Loss In Finding Innocence. They sang a song about a paranoid man who thinks the moon is a woman who is out to get him on Lady Moon. They told us a story of a man who stole someones jacket then fell through ice and the jacket buoyantly saved his life. He looked at the name in the jacket and spent much time Looking For Forgetful Louis Brown. They sang about a man who lives on the sidewalk and reaches for your feet as you walk by on Dalton Delaney. They sang about a Monster’s Holiday and the familiar tale of an astronaut about to fall back to Earth on A Cut In The Night Sky. They asked if maybe the Paper Doll is looking to cut you then told the story of a man in prison who survives by getting people addicted to his uncle’s cookies. When the supply runs dry he breaks out to find his uncle who’s name is Jesus. I think the song was called Sweet Jesus. They told us about the Frozen Winning Streak Of A Gambler and closed the night with a ditty about how I Forgot My Baby At The Reunion Dance. Their stark dark sound was enthralling and I was so happy to finally catch a full show.

Miku Daza came up next and blew the doors off the place. They had a gypsy punk ska rock sound and made you want to dance hard. They sang in English and in Spanish. They played a few slower songs but most of the show was super high energy. They exuded joy. I didn’t catch a lot of detail in my notes but I loved every minute of the 16 song set. I definitely need to get to know their music better.

After the set I said a few goodbyes then took the lovely walk home.
