I had a great time seeing music Thursday night at Light Club Lamp Shop. I usually like to listen to my radio show that runs Thursday from 9-11pm on WBKM to make sure everything is playing right, but some shows just cannot be missed for any reason.

The show was set to start at 9 so I got going a bit early and grabbed some dinner and was in and ready just before showtime. The room steadily filled as they sorted out the sound then Peg Tassey MUSIC played her first show in ages. She sang and played electric guitar and was joined by Caroline Marie on bass, her daughter Audrey on backing vocals, her husband Indigo Ruth-Davis on cello, and David Symons on accordion. The latter two instruments set a nice flow of sound as the bass drove the songs and the guitar rocked them out. They began in the flow and it settled into the gorgeous and powerful First Kiss. Peg’s voice shone with it’s usual resonance and i was elated. Caroline and Audrey’s voices blended perfectly. The fun and bouncy Pink Like A Girl followed. A buzzing guitar took a little of the edge off Angle Of The Sun but I was able to listen through it to the magical music that surrounded it. They got the full house clapping for the gypsy groove of Ritalin Boy. Dancer Sage Horsey moved around the room to the flow of the music for most, if not all, of the set. Peg’s voice sent chills through me as she began to sing “I slept next to you, ten times..”. Fade was one of those songs I had forgotten and came back instantly. It was glorious. They brought the energy way up for the blistering Boys Club, which is almost as true today as when it was written, but is getting a little better. Sunflowers had a nice sweep to it. They closed the night with a slow flowing Ethan Is Stoned and everyone loved it.

I said a couple of goodbyes quickly and headed home to see if my show was on track. It was, It was a wonderful evening and so great to hear Peg Tassey sing again.
