intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I had a great time seeing Vedora last Saturday at Radio Bean then had a great time seeing Phil Yates at the same place the next night. Phil has a new album coming out soon, No Need To Beg, and he kindly sent me the whole new album. He played a great version of this song solo and I love the full band version. This is Little French Earthquakes by Phil Yates on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Little French Earthquakes – Phil Yates & The Affiliates
2.) 40 Days – Better Things
3.) Papertrain – David L. Jarvis
4.) Rock And Roll Is My Weapon – Ninja Custodian

Last week was my 100th show and I missed some classics. Hopefully playing these three is a step towards completing that. OK, let’s play the last song on Many Things & Many Scenes.

5.) Many A Girl (reprise) – Joe Adler
6.) The Whole – Milton Busker
7.) Running Away From Home – The Snaz

I’ve heard of the Snaz but just recently got the album. It’s quite good. They are one of the bands representing Vermont at South By Southwest this year. Great new song from Milton. One of the area’s great performers is leaving for L.A. We wish you luck!

8.) The Night – Gregory Douglas
9.) Grass Is Always Greener – Phil Yates and the Affiliates
10.) What’s In California? – Joshua Glass Music

Great song from Josh! That’s another song from Phil’s upcoming album. Nice song from Gregory. OK I’ve got Jason Cooley in the studio to play acoustic guitar and sing a few songs (we chat a little).

11.) My Bitter End Blue Button) – Jason Cooley
12.) How It Goes (Blue Button) – Jason Cooley
13.) MSP2 ROUGH FRANCIS) – Jason Cooley

Thanks Jason!!!!!!! OK, let’s head south a little to talk about the marvel that is the clay soil in Addison County. It can be heavy when wet and rock solid when dry, yet still, somehow things will grow in it.

14.) Addison County Clay – Dirtminers
15.) Beach Song – Mr. Ray Fork
16.) AV6 – Bad Smell
17.) My Atom Girl – Raph Worrick and the Dirtminers

That set goes out to Raph who has been playing music in Vermont for a long time, has gone to an international school in Pakistan (hence the last song of the set), has played in a couple of projects with Jane Boxall Percussion, is a fireman, is one of Phil’s Affiliates, and is an all around great guy. Thanks for doing what you do! OK, let’s play one more.

18.) Death Of A Barn Cat – Dirtminers
19.) Black Cat – Black Rabbit
20.) Cats Were Born – And The Kids

That is such a tremendous version of that song from their new album Turn To Each Other. Great song from Rabbit. This next band will return to Burlington, or Winooski rather, when they play The Monkey House in April. I’m quite excited.

21.) Above My Ground – Landlady
22.) Above The Frequency – Invisible Homes
23.) Burn Burn Burn – Phil Yates and the Affiliates

Phil played a great version of that on Sunday. He, the Affiliates and Invisible Homes will play Nectar’s on Tuesday and I’m quite psyched! OK, let’s take a quick swing around New England.

24.) Seen Man – Endless Jags
25.) Lean In – When Particles Collide
26.) Uh Oh – Slowdim

I love that song from Slowdim. I’ve never seen them and would love it if someone brought them to town. Great song form Particles who travel quite a lot. I think Jags are playing Waking Windows this year. They, or some version of them, usually do. I want to congratulate Rebekah Whitehurst and Steve Tremblay on the birth of their daughter.

27.) Mine All Mine – Cave Bees
promo from Ted Pappadopoulos and the New Siberians
28.) Seeds And Stems – The New Siberians
29.) Something I Drew – farm
30.) Gone With Eraser – Lendway

Beautiful song from a band who’s trademark is beautiful songs. Love the Farm song. Can’t wait for the new Siberians album. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
