WBKM CREW

I just got back from radio show 19 on WBKM.ORG.  I felt like last week’s show was a bit boy heavy so I tipped the scales, a bit, the other way.

Song Before: America – Yes (live Burlington?) (Burlington seems to be a dream to me now)

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington.  It’s our nations birthday and it’s summer and it’s hot and humid and this is Sarah Emily Blacker on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker

2.) In the Rain – Plan B

3.) Sexy Flowers – Peg Tassey

Talked about it raining a couple of times a day, at varying intensity, lengths, with optional lightning.  But, we are getting some sun, thus we are getting sexy flowers.  Said I was tempting fate by playing the plan B song, but other than the two rainstorms today, it’s been a nice late afternoon and evening.  Sarah is releasing her new CD (EP) at Radio Bean next Friday, July 12.  Next we continue on with New Appreciation For Sunshine.  This song is a bit retro and quite lovely.

4.) Sea Green – The Cush

5.) Muskrat Love – Cave Bees

6.) My Red – The Lava’s

7.) Sunflower Street – The David L. Jarvis Band

Lovely song from a talented classic Burlington musician, Dave Jarvis.  He’s been serving our country and I could not be more proud of him.  He may be in town hanging out at the OP on Monday.  Before that was a louder take on a retro song, courtesy of the Austin sisters.  I love the Cave Bees slow song, and knew that it would go great out of Sea Green.  Love the line about eyes shooting laser beams.  It’s the 4th of July.  Happy Birthday America.  I went to the fireworks last night, then went to Signal Kitchen and took a chance and saw some live music.  This next band is a friend of Burlington.

8.) Fireworks – The Tragically Hip

9.) Dead Summer – Thompson Gunner

10.) Nowhere Feels Like Home – Fire The Cannons

Talked about being alone at Signal Kitchen last night, and thinking about how being in a venue when music is about to happen, feels like home.  I dedicated it to all the people who do not know where they are in the world.  I said, a long time ago, I was in a place where I did not know what to do or where to go, and by going out to see bands, I found a home in the places where music happens.  Talked about loving the Gunner song, and maybe they would admit there was something on the radio tonight.  That song was live from Nectar’s and Tony’s, one of the guys who makes WBKM happen, kids are playing in two bands tomorrow at Nectar’s from 5-6:30.  Talked about seeing The Hip play Fireworks in Verdun, with the international Fireworks fest in the background.  Happy Birthday America!  This band has a new album coming soon.  Until it’s out, listen to this.

11.) Tic Toc – Doll Fight!

12.) Oh Dirty Blondes – The Dirty Blondes

13.) Let It Shine – Rachel Brown

14.) When Will The Light Come – Sarah Blacker

Sarah is coming to town soon.  Rachel used to sing in town a long time ago.  What a voice!  The Blondes will be playing the Precipice at the end of the month.  Joe Adler and the folks at Radio Bean are doing a great job putting the three day local music festival together.  Nice “cover” of the Lennon song  Hmmmm, Doll Fight!

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town.  Let’s do it again next week, shall we?

Song after: Jungle Ride – Fish

During the outro the Rachel song started playing loud.  I may have panicked and stopped things, even though her song was not in either of the players.  It turned out that Media player just started playing.  I hope I did not mess anything up too bad.  At least it happened after the show.  After the Fish, I stuck in I dig Love from George Harrison, followed by US Blues by the Grateful Dead.  Regular programming followed, with, no doubt, lots of cool tunes.
